Volume 6 Chapter 4, Part 2 Well, We Know Each Other, Right?
Luke nodded to Randy, who shrugged, saying, "That's how it is."
"But until the opponent moves, there's nothing we can do. I'll do as I please."
Randy laughed through his nose, and Luke nodded, "That's true."
"Well then, it's about time to head back. After all, I need to prepare dinner──"
"Wait a minute. The ladies' conversation is still going on. Plus..."
Luke grinned and pulled out a letter from his pocket.
It bore a crest that Randy recognized all too well.
"Victor's... old man, huh?"
Randy hurriedly opened the seal, and his father's handwriting, Alan's, jumped into view.
'With Harrison and Rita absent, you and Miss Elizabeth must be anxious. I've arranged for you to stay at the Marquis's residence in the royal capital until you return home.'
Randy showed a subtle reaction with an "Ah" to the short note.
"Looks like you can't be lovey-dovey alone anymore."
Luke laughed with a mischievous face, and Randy pouted, "I-I won't!"
"I know. You're a coward."
Luke continued to wear a bad grin, and Randy frowned, "Who are you calling a coward?"
"It's you, you. I thought you'd at least hold hands, but what's with that awkward distance?"
Randy glared at Luke, who snorted, "Shut up."
"Unlike you, I'm pure."
"What do you mean pure? A wild child makes me laugh."
Randy furrowed his brows further at Luke's snicker, "Huh?"
"You. Why have you been picking a fight since earlier?"
Randy glared at him,
"I'm not picking a fight."
Luke glared back.
After a moment of glaring at each other, they exchanged "You're picking a fight" and "I'm not" for a while, until Randy thought of something and grinned.
"Ah, is that it? You're jealous that I'm in a good mood with Liz and Ellie, right?"
"Huh?"
Randy patted Luke's shoulder with a knowing look, "Don't hide it."
"Just because you have no progress with Cecilia, don't take it out on me."
"Luke shouted, 'That's not it!' at Randy, who had a triumphant look on his face."
Luke raised his hand as if to say it was nothing and hunched over to move to the corner of the street under the gazes directed at him again.
"You just don't know, but me and the young lady, we're totally *lovey-dovey*."
Luke, lowering his voice and looking at Cecilia, waved at the two who were looking this way with a smile.
"What do you mean lovey-dovey? You can only call her 'young lady,' you coward."
"Who's the coward? I know my place."
"Heh heh. Because of your position, the young lady might go far away."
Luke choked out a "Guh" at Randy, who was grinning widely.
Indeed, Randy was right; at this rate, there would be no progress in the relationship between the guard knight and the young lady.
"Are you thinking of stealing the Dukedom?"
"No way. Don't say weird things too."
Sighing, Luke ran his hand through his hair and said, "Geez, everyone..."
"What's up? Got some issues? You're taking it out on me..."
"So it's not taking it out... well, maybe it was."
With a sigh of resignation, Luke opened his mouth, "While you were gone..."
"Ah, I found you, Lucas!"
A carefree voice echoed from across the street.
When Randy turned his gaze toward the voice, he saw a silver-haired girl running over, waving her hand.
"Oh, speaking of the devil..."
"Hey, hey. Don't turn the street into a battlefield."
Randy frowned, and Luke grimaced, "Are you an idiot?"
"That's the second generation [Sword Saint]."
"Ah, that's the one you were talking about."
Just as Randy nodded, Livia joined the two with a cheerful "Yoo-hoo!"
"What are you doing in a place like this?"
Tilting her head, Livia looked at Luke, who turned his gaze to Randy and said, "Just a little friend."
"Nice to meet you! I'm Livia."
Randy introduced himself, saying, "I'm Randolph."
"Could you be [Red Battle Demon]?"
"Some people do call me that."
Randy shrugged, and Livia looked on with great interest.
Indeed, he think Livia's sense of distance is closer than most people's, but it's not to the point of being bothersome.
"Is this...?"
...the cause?
Randy closed his mouth, about to say something.
After all, a presence he had recently become acquainted with was approaching.
(...this presence is──)
"Livia. You can't just run off like that."
Emerging from the crowd was...
""Gah! I knew it!""
Randy and Luke's voices perfectly overlapped.
"Oh? The [Battle Demon] and young Lord Lucas. What a coincidence."
Julius, smiling cheerfully, approached the two who frowned.
"You two, don't look so happy."
In response to Julius's smile, the two beautifully chimed in, "Where's the happiness in that?"
