Volume 6 Chapter 4 Well, We Know Each Other, Right?

The carriage carrying the 4 who knew nothing of the complicated matters of the country and the Church arrived at the royal capital without any issues.

Passing through the castle gate, Randy and Liz said goodbye to Catherine and Leon as they got off the carriage.

 "See you tomorrow!"

 "Then at the academy──"

Leaving behind Randy and Liz, who waved with smiles, Catherine and the others' carriage started to move.

Catherine and the others were heading back to the Church to discuss various matters with the higher-ups, including Archbishop Ridley.

Watching the shrinking carriage, Randy muttered, "It's a strange thing."

 "What is?"

To Liz, who tilted her head, Randy explained that his relationship with Catherine had become something strange.

The first impression of her as a foolish girl had changed into that of a wicked woman who trapped Liz, and after many twists and turns, now they could be seen as ordinary friends.

"That's true. I'm the most surprised."

"But you don't feel bad about it, right?"

In response to Randy's question, Liz replied, "Who knows?" but her smile told everything.

They are friends, but at the same time, they might be rivals.

A relationship where they can speak their true feelings to each other.

It's the same with Cecilia, but it's a different relationship with her.

"Randy, shall we walk a bit?"

Looking up at the sky, Liz smiled, and Randy nodded back with a smile.

Randy also felt like taking a little walk.

With that decided, Randy and Liz left their carriage to [Dark Tide] and decided to walk home.

"Excuse me, please take care of the carriage."

 "Sure thing!"

In response to their words, a somewhat passionate man said, "Leave it to me," and slowly began to move the carriage.

Waving goodbye to the shrinking carriage, Randy and Liz walked through the streets of the royal capital as the sun began to set.

"By the way, since Rita isn't here, I guess I have to cook."

"That's right. Sir Harrison isn't here either..."

Having said that much, Liz looked up with an "Ah..."

 She had realized something.

That in that house, there was no one to supervise them.

Suddenly blushing, Liz made Randy feel a bit embarrassed too.

 After all, in Randy's mind,

 ──today, my parents aren't home.

 That voice keeps playing back.

Where did the bright feelings from earlier go?

Suddenly, the two fell silent, but beside Randy, Liz murmured softly, "No, that's not it..."

It seems she's being teased by Ellie in her mind.

 But even Ellie...

 "Wow..."

...once she switched places with Liz, she blushed and poked Randy's side, saying, "W-What are you looking at?"

The 3 walked through the bustling streets of the royal capital at dusk, sharing an atmosphere like lovers.

It's Ellie, and it's also Liz.

The backs of their hands barely touched.

 "Ah."

 "Sorry."

 "W-Why are you apologizing?"

Watching Liz and Ellie swapping places rapidly, it seems they are both embarrassed, saying "No way, switch!"

Randy couldn't help but feel envious.

Nonetheless, once they became aware of each other, their words were few, yet strangely, they felt closer than usual.

As their hands brushed together several times, their hands naturally...

 "Hey."

...a voice from the gate of the street startled Randy, making his shoulders jump.

"D-Don't scare me like that, stupid Luke!"

Frantically turning around, Randy met Luke's gaze, who stood there with his arms crossed, giving him a stare.

Leaning against the Hartfield family's carriage, Luke called out, "Miss, they passed this way after all," looking up at the carriage's guest room.

Slowly, the door to the guest room opened, and Cecilia peeked out.

 "Liza, welcome back!"

With the help of Luke, Cecilia descended, smiling softly.

 "Cecily!"

Liz rushed over to her old friend, grabbing her hand.

The fluffy atmosphere from earlier was nowhere to be found.

 Liz eagerly chatted with Cecilia.

Watching the two from a distance, Luke turned back to Randy with a glare, saying, "Hey."

"What's with that pinkish vibe you're giving off?"

 "N-No! That's not it!"

Randy's voice unintentionally grew loud, drawing the attention of those around them.

It wasn't just the passersby but also Cecilia's and Liz's gazes.

Feeling the gazes on him, Randy hunched his back and whispered, "I-It's not like that."

"Quit lying. You were so spacey that you didn't notice my presence."

Luke's comment, with a pout of annoyance, left Randy taken aback.

It was true that he had been spacey, and because of that, he hadn't noticed Luke at all.

"If I were an assassin, you'd all be in big trouble."

Sighing, Luke quickly glanced back at Cecilia and the others... then subtly beckoned Randy to come closer.

"If you get all flustered being alone with 2 girls at home, why not just confess already?"

Randy shook his head at Luke's lowered voice, saying, "Are you an idiot? It's about Ellie's body first."

That's something Randy would not yield on.

 A promise with the two.

 Find Ellie's body.

Only after fulfilling that would Randy decide to face the two as a man.

"Well, I won't force you, but at least get a little used to it... to girls."

Randy frowned at Luke's smirk and said, "Shut up."

Luke was right; no matter how much he cared, getting so lost in thought that he didn't notice his surroundings was a no-go.

That said, it was also no good to be so overly aware of his surroundings that he forgot to enjoy the moment.

Enjoy the time with the 3 and don't forget about being considerate of others.

In other words, Luke was saying to get used to girls but not to the point of getting flustered alone with one.

"It was [Pilgrim of Truth], right? Those weird folks are running around, aren't they?"

 "Did you hear?"

"Yeah. I got a message from Lord Count."

Luke was talking about everything that had happened since that day he sent Harrison off.

As Randy had predicted, Harrison had gone straight to Hartfield and started investigating the [Pilgrim of Truth] that was nesting there.

Fortunately, compared to Waldner, [Pilgrim of Truth] had been less active, and there hadn't been much damage.

"As for Braubelg, it seems there hasn't been much trouble for now."

He knew about that from Rolf, but it seemed there had been no further issues after that.

"Well, for now, they are just a bunch of unpredictable folks. Worrying too much won't help."

"That doesn't mean you should let your guard down. That's what I'm trying to say."
