"If our souls can be eternally happy, will we meet again in the next life?"
On the way back from the temple, Rolus murmured softly in the carriage.
"We might just meet again."
After all, we had been reincarnating and meeting each other over and over, always together.
"When we meet again, will you recognize me?"
Unsure of how to respond, I glanced at Rolus, who seemed to be smiling happily.
"...I'll do my best to recognize you. Will you recognize me, Rolus?"
Honestly, I wasn't sure if I would.
I only knew Rolus was a reincarnation of a gaming enthusiast because of the thousand-year curse incident.
"I don't know. But even if I don't recognize you, I'm confident I can find you and love only you."
"W-well..."
What was it?
Rolus felt different from before.
The air around us was sweet.
"If only our souls could become one. Then in the next life, we could share that one soul and live together, longing for each other so much that we couldn't bear to be apart."
"W-w-w-what's gotten into you, Rolus? You're unusually talkative today!?"
Unable to withstand the sweet atmosphere Rolus was creating, I raised my voice slightly.
But Rolus's charm was relentless.
He leaned in, putting his weight on me, and then took my right hand, squeezing it tightly.
"I'm just so happy, I couldn't help it."
"H-h-happy?"
"The lady I thought I had given up on is right next to me, and we can even get married. Even I can't help but feel ecstatic about this."
"When you gave up, was it when you quit being my attendant?"
"Yes. To be honest, I thought I might either kidnap you or make a move on you if I stayed like this, so I decided to give up everything and run away."
"...I see. Um, so now, does that mean you can make a move whenever you want?"
I looked up at Rolus from such a close distance.
After a brief silence fell, we both leaned closer and bumped our heads together with a thump.
"Ouch!"
"I, I'm truly sorry!"
"No, it's my fault too. Well, not really us, but this carriage that swayed as if it was waiting for the perfect moment."
I never thought I would end up bumping heads in such a sweet atmosphere.
That was certainly unexpected.
Before we knew it, we arrived at the main estate of the Alfano family.
The party preparations should be well underway by now.
The first to welcome us were Father and Elder Brother.
Since this party was mainly directed by Teacher and Mother, the two probably had some free time.
"Welcome back, you two!"
"We're back, Father and Elder Brother!"
As I said this with a smile, Elder Brother's gaze turned to my forehead.
"Elena, what's this? Both you and Rolus have red foreheads?"
"It was so dull in the carriage on the way back, so I had a headbutt contest with Rolus."
"Oh..."
Elder Brother seemed to take my lie at face value, pulling back slightly.
Did Rolus think he might get caught trying to intervene?
He was staring off into space.
Well, we are married now, so it's alright if I get caught.
As I thought this, Father took my and Rolus' hands.
"You two must be tired. Why don't you rest here for a while until everything is ready?"
Father looked unusually happy.
He had been so against it when the engagement was first decided.
"You seem quite pleased, Father."
When I said this, Father displayed a beaming smile.
"Ah, I am indeed happy. When Elena's marriage was decided, I thought of her being handed over to someone else, but when I think about it, Rolus is only becoming my son, so she hasn't really gone to another's care."
If Father feels this way, then I too am happy.
However, I feel as if Elder Brother is straining to hold back laughter; could that be just my imagination?
I don't think it's a misunderstanding; surely something must have happened that I don't know about.
Next time, I'll secretly ask Elder Brother.
"Besides, Rolus wouldn't make my dear Elena unhappy, would he? Right?"
I wish he wouldn't speak in that intimidating voice, looking like the leader of some evil organization.
It just looks like a threat.
"Of course."
You don't have to bow to threats, Rolus.
I'll just go ahead and be happy on my own.
"You two, everything is ready!"
Just as we were chatting, the teacher and Mother came to call us together.
"It's so beautiful, you'll be amazed!"
