Volume 1 Chapter 67 Servant, Broke Out in a Cold Sweat
It's been several months since I started living here, and I'm still just drifting through life.
"Lady, the document organization you requested is complete."
"Oh my, that was quick. Thank you."
Having mostly finished cleaning the neighboring house, I was now helping with document collection and organization.
My new employer, Lady Camelía, seems to have a collecting habit yet struggles with tidiness.
Well, she probably doesn't have time to clean since she spends most of the day on divination work.
Recognizing this, I decided to assist with document organization.
I had originally helped with Spell-ology document organization and was quite good at it.
Besides, when I have no work, I uncontrollably overthink.
If I immerse myself in document organization, I can avoid thinking about other things.
"By the way, Rolus, could you please pick up some cakes and pastries from the local bakery?"
"Of course."
"Great! Feel free to buy some tea snacks for the guests and a treat for yourself too."
"No, I'm fine."
"Then, please do it."
...I don't actually need a snack.
Thinking that, I headed to the designated shop.
As I approached the store, the sweet aroma of the confections brushed my nose.
This sweet scent reminds me of the freshly baked cookies that Lady forced into my mouth.
That warm, sweet cookie that crumbled in my mouth surprised me with how delicious food could be.
I also loved that sweet fragrance surrounding Lady when she made treats.
On days she made cakes, that sweet scent was particularly strong and long-lasting.
I truly cherished the moment when I could enjoy the world's most delicious cake alongside my favorite sweet aroma.
"...sigh."
I really hate that I fall into such thoughts whenever I have a spare moment.
I must discard these filthy feelings of affection I have for Lady somewhere.
Now that we are far apart, even if I have these feelings, Lady won't notice.
But I am no longer Lady's attendant.
I am not even allowed to call her Lady.
I sealed away all my emotions and focused solely on my work as I headed home, thinking only of the items I needed to buy.
Some time later, on a certain day,
I was about to go clean the neighboring house when the Lady called out to me.
"Today, I thought I would teach you about the Purification Forest."
"The Purification Forest, you say?"
"Yes, yes. There is a small forest between this mansion and the neighboring one where you are cleaning, right?"
"Yes."
I had always thought that forest made the neighboring house feel somewhat distant.
"In the middle of that forest, there is a large crystal. Now, let's go."
Saying that, she quickly started walking.
I hurried to follow behind her, not wanting to be left behind, even though I was confused.
"Look, it's inside that cave."
After walking for a few minutes through the trees, she finally stopped.
In front of us was a small cave.
It seemed that there was a large crystal inside.
"When doing stone divination for clients, you know, the stones tend to absorb some bad things."
As we stepped into the cave, she said that.
Despite being inside a cave, it was faintly bright, as there were gems glowing softly embedded in the walls.
It truly felt like a cave owned by a stone diviner.
"And this,"
She stopped.
In front of us was a massive crystal sitting on a pedestal, with thorn-like pillars growing out in 6 directions.
It was different from what I had imagined.
I had thought it would be more rounded.
After all, the crystal Lady had was round.
"This crystal purifies the bad things that the stones have absorbed."
"The bad things that the stones have absorbed..."
"If the bad things are left unattended, it can have a negative effect on me as a diviner. That's why we purify here."
Bad things affecting a diviner...?
But did Lady ever purify anything?
"Did Lady Elena ever purify anything, you ask?"
"Huh, um, do you know that too?"
(I braced myself, wondering if she could see through my feelings as easily as she did my low magic capacity.)
"No, it's just that it was written on your face, so I could see it."
"On my face."
"You should have learned about purification at the academy. Since you're still a student, you likely don't need any elaborate purification, and you should have a crystal among your gemstones, so that's enough."
"Is that so?"
I'm glad if it won't have a bad effect on Lady.
As I felt a bit relieved inside, the teacher started lining up the gemstones on the table in front of the crystal.
"If you leave it here for a while, purification will be complete."
The teacher lady said this as she sat down on a nearby chair.
She also offered me a chair to sit.
"While you're here, you can get small worries purified."
"Small worries..."
I wondered if it could also purify the forbidden feelings I have for Lady.
"Speaking of which, Rolus, I've heard Ellie is quite a talented girl."
"Yes."
She excels in both magical and academic abilities, is well-liked, and has a knack for gemstone fortune-telling.
I nodded immediately, thinking that.
