Volume 2 Chapter 6 The Archbishop is Avenged by the Stuffed Beasts
The army led by Archbishop Gubetz was annihilated by the hands of Demon Lord Zeke.
Archbishop Gubetz had abandoned his knights and returned alone to the Holy Empire.
"Damn it! This is no joke! I'm getting out of here!"
Gubetz stuffed all the valuables he could find in the mansion into a magic bag that could hold anything.
His arms had been severed by Zeke, but he wore prosthetic arms that he could control with his thoughts.
"If I report this defeat to the Emperor, I'll be killed for sure..."
Zeke had offered him one last chance to negotiate for peace.
"Sooner or later, when the knights return, the Emperor will learn of our defeat. He will surely mobilize the [13 Apostles] then."
13 Apostles, the mightiest 13 Celestial Knights under the command of the Holy Empire.
Due to their overwhelming power and ruthless nature, they usually reside in the castle as knights.
"But with this news, they'll surely be dispatched. Hmph! Demon Lord! Your life ends here! Just you wait! I'll be in a safe place, laughing as I hear the news of your country's destruction! Ahahahaha!"
...But that was as far as the Archbishop's laughter went.
"I figured as much."
"Wha──! Demon Lord Zeke?!?"
In a corner of the Archbishop's bedroom, the Demon Lord stood tall.
"How...? The Holy Empire's holy barrier is supposed to be an impenetrable wall, never allowing unauthorized entry!"
"That flimsy barrier? I walked right through it."
"Wh-What...?"
Gubetz broke into a cold sweat.
"You... I gave you a chance, and this is how you repay me?"
"Ar-Are you going to kill me?! Try it! We're right in the heart of the enemy territory! Cause a scene, and the knights will be here in an instant..."
"And then?"
Zeke had no fear in his eyes.
It seemed like he was afraid of the Imperial Kingdom, but he thought that it was not enough.
"Fine, fine. I didn't come here to fight."
"Y-You're letting me go...?"
Zeke scanned the room.
"Did you make these taxidermies?"
The room was filled with exquisite taxidermies of various beasts, masterpieces crafted by Gubetz over his lifetime.
"Even a gourd baby... It's so pitiful, it's still just a child."
Zeke gently touched one of the taxidermies.
"All these creatures here are angry. They were killed unjustly to satisfy your desires."
"Hmph! What's wrong with killing beasts to survive! Hunters hunt animals in the mountains to live, what's the difference there?! Hmph!"
Zeke glared at Gubetz with cold eyes.
The Archbishop, in a moment of sheer terror, let out a pathetic scream unbefitting his stature.
"Your actions are nothing but the lowest form of satisfying your desires. Don't compare yourself to hunters who take lives to sustain their own."
Zeke looked around at the silent beasts and said, "Apologize to them. Or things will get ugly."
"Hmph! Why must I apologize to these beasts?! These fools are already dead!"
"Well, let's see."
Just then, the Archbishop felt a sudden impact on his stomach.
"Ugh! Wh-What... This little...!"
The gourd baby, which should have been a mere taxidermy, had tackled him.
"W-What's going on?! These creatures should be dead!"
"I brought them back to life."
"B-Bringing them back to life?! H-How can you, a mere human, perform such a divine miracle?!"
Zeke had merely regenerated their bodies and allowed the spirits of the wrongfully killed beasts to possess them.
It was a feat made possible because their physical forms were preserved as taxidermies.
He hadn't resurrected the dead from scratch.
Even so, it was beyond human capability.
"I'll pay my respects to the Emperor, and then I'll take these guys with me."
Zeke opened the door and stepped outside.
"Grrrrr!" "Swoosh!" "Gah gah!"
The beasts, unjustly taken from their lives, glared at Gubetz with angry expressions.
"What's this?!"
"Do you want to revenge?"
A giant bear and tiger, fierce wild animals, are creeping closer.
The archbishop Gubetz, lacking combat power, stands no chance.
"H-help...! Please help me, Zekeee!"
But Zeke doesn't even glance back and leaves the room.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Please! Make these animals calm down! Please! Pleaseee!"
"It's impossible. I'm not controlling them. The beasts' will seeks revenge on you. This is what you underestimated."
The beasts all attack Gubetz at once.
They bite at his legs, shoulders, and sides, seeking revenge for their slain kin.
"Come back, Zeke! Let's restart everything! I won't make any more trophies! I won't underestimate beast lives anymore! I'm truly sorry! So, pleaseeee!"
But Zeke doesn't come back.
It was already too late.
"Ughhhhhh...!"
...In the end, Gubetz was killed by the very animals he had slain.
