Volume 2 Chapter 5 Archbishop Trembles at the Terror of the Demon Lord

Archbishop Gubetz was ordered by Emperor Gomidis to crush the Demon Lord's country.

He was supposed to lead all the knights and come to destroy the country along with the Demon Lord... or so he thought.

 "What is this...?"

Near the border of the Demon Lord's country.

Covered in soot, Gubetz muttered in shock.

The plains were submerged in a sea of flames.

 "W-what...? What on earth happened?"

"Archbishop! Run away! The second wave is coming!"

He looked up at the knight's warning.

Floating in the sky was a small man riding a dragon, the Demon Lord Zeke.

Zeke raised one hand, and a massive fireball appeared in the sky.

"M-massive magic [Nova Strike]! To deploy it multiple times without incantation! Is he a monster?!"

Countless giant fireballs were hurled down at the knights.

The moment they hit the ground, fierce explosions erupted everywhere.

The knights were blown away like leaves.

Like weeds, they were having their lives snatched away.

"I-it's the Demon Lord... It's the Demon Lord!"

That was not a title for Zeke, but a scream from the heart.

A being of overwhelming evil with absolute power.

The Demon Lord, Zeke truly possessed power worthy of that name.

 "U-uwahhh!"

 "Archbishop! Wait! Archbishop!"

Abandoning the command of the knights, Gubetz fled while crying.

"It's a failure! That is living violence! I've touched the reverse scale of a truly terrifying being!"

If he returned to the empire, he would be killed by the emperor.

If he stayed here, he would be burned to death by the Demon Lord.

Gubetz thought of throwing everything away and living alone in an unfamiliar land.

...But that would never be allowed.

The king of the monsters would never allow a being that does not value the lives of beasts to exist.

 "Hey"

 "E-Eeekk! T-the Demon Lord!"

In an instant, the Demon Lord teleported in front of Gubetz.

"Oh, just by looking, I can see you've learned to mimic teleportation magic. ...Now then,"

 "I-I am so sorryyyy!"

With a thud, Gubetz knelt and bowed deeply.

"I was ordered by His Majesty the Emperor! I had no choice but to lead my group here!"

He shifted the blame to the Emperor.

Prioritizing his life, he quickly threw away his pride.

 "Lift your head."

"You will forgive me, right...? Ah! My armmm! My armmm!"

Gubetz realized both his arms were gone.

 "Is this what you want?"

In Zeke's hand were Gubetz's severed arms.

Yet, despite being severed, he felt no blood or pain.

"Y-you're going to kill me like you did with the others!"

"I won't kill you. Besides, they aren't dead."

"What!? Don't be ridiculous! You killed them all!"

On the burning ground lay the bodies of the fallen knights of the Empire.

Zeke raised his hand, and a bright light burst forth.

It extinguished the flames, and all the knights who should have been gravely injured... rose up.

"W-what is that... ridiculous healing power?"

 Now, Gubetz instinctively understood.

Before him stood an extraordinary monster.

In his presence, human life felt as light as a piece of paper.

To live or die, it was all up to him.

"I'll give you another chance. Go back with your comrades. Then tell the Emperor I want to negotiate for peace."

After displaying such overwhelming violence and miraculous power, the Demon Lord spoke of peace.

Gubetz could not comprehend Demon Lord Zeke's thoughts.

"You are the messenger. Accurately convey my words to the Emperor, and bring him here. Then I will return your arms and make sure they can move properly."

 "I-I understand..."

"But if you send another assassin, I'll crush the Empire. Got it?"

His intense glare alone was enough to make him wet himself.

"Go. Get out of my sight before I change my mind."

 "S-Sorry, sir! I'm so sorryyy!"

He shed tears, relieved to be alive... and deeply regretting his defiance of Zeke, even more now.

"Oh, what a foolish thing I did... If only I had accepted Zeke's terms during the prisoner exchange..."

 But it was too late.

He knew that if he returned to the Emperor, a severe punishment, harsher than a mere scolding, awaited him.

"How stupid I was... I wish I could turn back time and redo everything..."
