Volume 2 Chapter 53 Treatment of the Kirin
We arrived at the shrine in the fairy kingdom, where the sealed Kirin awaited us.
'Well, Demon Lord. Is this Kirin going to wake up? I really don't want to be eaten if it suddenly gets up. Let's just leave it here.'
'[Sleep] is keeping it in a deep slumber. Sister, be quiet.'
I touched the Kirin's body and channeled magic into it.
'Demon Lord, what are you doing?'
"I'm scanning its body. I'm checking for damaged areas and injured organs."
'I can't believe that's possible... Amazing, as expected of you, Demon Lord!'
After a moment, the scanning was complete.
"Upon closer inspection, it seems a [small gear] is embedded deep in the Kirin's brain."
"W-What!? A gear in its head...! That could kill it! How is it still alive?"
"It appears a curse was placed to control the transplanted subject. There's also advanced magic to prevent death. The caster must be quite skilled."
The fairy prince Reiss murmured in disbelief.
'A thing like that in the Kirin"s brain...'
'But that means someone put the gear in its brain, right? There's no way it did it itself.'
"Exactly. There's a culprit pulling the strings behind the scenes. But let's set that aside for now and begin the treatment."
Reiss's eyes widened.
"T-Treatment? How will you do that? How can you remove a gear from its brain?"
"Well, the gear is embedded deep in the brain. However, there's no choice but to remove it directly."
'W-Wait, Demon Lord! That's impossible! The brain is a delicate organ, right? If you damage it even a little, it could die!'
'Moreover, the subject is a Kirin, an unknown beast. Its brain structure must be different from ordinary animals. A surgery of such high difficulty... is impossible.'
Just then.
'...Demon Lord. Please. Do it.'
The Kirin slowly opened its eyes and looked at me.
'Whoa! The Kirin is awake! Demon Lord, this is bad! It might kill us! Please, kill it!'
I grabbed Lilin and tossed her back.
"It's a difficult surgery."
'I can't... ugh! I won't last much longer like this. Please.'
"...I understand. Will you trust me?"
'Yeah. There was an option to kill me, but you didn't. I appreciate your strength and heart. Do it.'
I nodded and concentrated my magic in my right hand.
I activated [Sleep] with my left hand to serve as anesthesia.
I touched the kirin's head with my right hand and slowly... inserted it inside.
'Incredible... by phasing only your right hand, you're avoiding damage to the brain...!'
'Is that amazing, Reiss?'
'It's not just amazing... at least, humans, elves, and certainly fairies can't do it... it's truly divine!'
A spirit, meaning a body without flesh such as a spirit or ghost, is what a corpse is.
I guided my right hand to the spot where the gears were stuck.
I touched the gears with my right hand, making them phase as well.
I grabbed the object and pulled my right hand out.
'I... I can't believe it... the pain! It pulled as if it were a lie!'
After the surgery, the kirin leaped up and shouted.
'I feel so refreshed! I even feel like I've been reborn!'
The kirin nickered joyfully.
'Amazing...! So incredible, Demon Lord! Indeed, you are a wonderful person!'
Reiss took my hand and shook it vigorously.
'Thank you, young Demon Lord. That was a splendid surgery. Your high medical skills at such a young age are commendable!'
The kirin approached me, knelt, and lowered its head.
"I'm glad you're feeling better."
I patted the kirin's head, and it nickered happily.
'Hey, hey, kirin! You've really got a huge favor to repay to my Demon Lord! How should you repay it?'
I slapped Lilin's head.
'Of course, I intend to repay this favor by serving you.'
"Huh? Does that mean you'll join us?"
'Is that a problem?'
"No, it's welcome. Nice to meet you, I'm Zeke."
Reiss, who had been watching, spoke with shining eyes.
'Not only did you save our nation, but you even managed to bring a kirin under your command... Truly, you are the Demon Lord!'
