Chapter 121 The Emperor's Assassin
When I turned my head just with my eyes, I saw a young man.
He looked like an adult, but he couldn't be in his thirties yet.
He wore all black clothes and had a black sword.
His hair and eyes were also pitch black, and even though he was right in front of me, he seemed to blend into the dark like night.
But even with that scary look, I could feel his strong presence very clearly.
It felt strange that I hadn't noticed anything until he unsheathed his blade, revealing the heavy and dark magical power that surrounded him.
Just looking into his eyes felt like my heart was being crushed from the pressure, but somehow, I opened my mouth.
"Who are you...?"
"Me? My name is──"
"Ahhh!!"
Surprisingly, just as he was about to answer, Thea jumped at him from beside me.
Her skin was tanned, and her prosthetic arm turned into a claw──she was serious now.
She was ready to give it her all from the start.
The man defended against Thea's strike by lifting the sword he was pointing at me.
"──My name is Amatsu. I was ordered by the Emperor of this country to kill you; I'm an assassin."
"Ugh!?"
"Thea!!"
The man's careless kick sent Thea flying into the wall of the room.
As pieces of broken wood fly around, the man's mad laughter echoes.
"Hahaha! That's nice. It's a minus that you didn't notice that I was a spy, but the fact that you immediately came to get my head the moment you noticed is not bad. And..."
The man suddenly puts one hand, which had been placed behind my neck, forward.
There, he was holding Thea's familiar weapon... the "Flying Sword" that had left Thea's body and was flying around freely.
"It was especially great that you recognized me as a superior and attacked me with all your might, regardless of the circumstances. If it hadn't been developed by the Empire, I might have been able to at least get a scratch on it."
Apparently, Thea attacked the man, Amatsu, from behind with her Flying Sword at almost the same time as she jumped in front of him.
It's amazing that Thea can do that in an instant after waking up, but this guy who saw through it so easily is even more amazing.
It seems like that dangerous guy is trying to kill me for some reason.
Why?
While wondering about it, things were still happening.
Thea pushed away the rubble and jumped out, launching a fierce attack on Amatsu with many Flying Swords.
"Yaaah...!!"
There were sharp claws and Flying Swords scattered all over the room.
Also, from her robotic arm, small spears connected by ropes flew out to tangle Amatsu and try to stop him.
No matter how hard you try, you can't deal with an attack from all sides by yourself.
But still, it was as if the man's movements were in slow motion, easily defending against all of Thea's attacks with just one sword.
"What's wrong, are you out of tricks already? You can't beat me just by fighting head-on!?"
"How about a 2-on-one fight then!!"
"Oh?"
Breaking through the wall, Rifine jumped in.
She was in her pajamas without her sword or usual dress armor, but that didn't stop her from swinging her fists.
Amatsu tried to block it with one arm──but he couldn't, and he flew outside the inn.
"Wow, pushing me away like that is impressive, I've never seen such strong girls in the Empire!!"
"You seem pretty relaxed, but can you really focus only on me?"
Even after getting blown away, Amatsu seemed relaxed... or rather, he looked like he was having fun as a deep red magic circle appeared at his feet.
In the room next to where Thea and I were, just as Rifine had opened a hole and come flying in, Monica was muttering a chant and refining magical power.
"This is the end!! (Inferno)!!"
A pillar of flame erupts, regardless of whether it is in the middle of town or not.
The magic fire lit up the darkness of the night, and the people of the town began to scream. But Amatsu stood there calmly.
"Wow! You said it was 2 against one, but the third person was my favorite. That's a good team. My clothes got a little burnt."
"...That's a lie, right? Are you really human?"
Even after receiving Monica's magic, Amatsu himself was almost unscathed.
Honestly, I can't believe it either.
Since we were in town, they held back a bit, but even so, if it were me, there wouldn't be any bones left after that strong magic. And yet, it hit directly and he's unharmed...
"Then... it's my turn now."
A shiver ran down my spine.
Amatsu put the scary dark Magical Power into the sword and swung it at us without holding back.
"Don't die from something like this! Make it more fun for me. ──Black Flash!!"
A magic slash that seemed to show the idea of "death" was coming straight at us.
I couldn't block it or run away, so I just stared at it in shock──just in time, a big back stood in front of me.
"I won't let you do ittt!!"
"Elder Brother!?"
Holding the sword, he blocked Amatsu's slash with a shining sword.
A nasty cracking sound echoed as the sword Elder Brother held started to break, and then──
"Haaa!!"
Just in time, he deflected the slash into the air.
As the sword finished its job and broke, Elder Brother fell to his knees.
"Hah... hah... hah..."
"Elder Brother, are you okay!?"
"I'm okay, just a little tired. More importantly, Yumie, let's hurry and escape, we can't stay here."
"What? You're getting involved..."
"It's frustrating, but I don't think I can beat him right now. I guess I'll just have to leave it to the adults."
And with that, Elder Brother picked me up.
This is what they call carrying me like a princess.
Without any time to feel embarrassed about this sudden event, Elder Brother called out to Monica and the others, picked me up and started evacuating.
"Hey, wait, don't run away! Just when it was finally getting interesting..."
"Then I'll give you even more fun, with these hands"
Amatsu seemed to be trying to follow us, but a voice stopped him.
We are the best fighting force of the Ortria-Euphemia allied forces.
Monsters with the power to fight an army on their own.
"It's been a while since the 3 of us stood side by side. Don't die from a stray bullet, you stupid tiger."
"That's my line, you stupid wolf. Don't make things worse by messing up."
"Cas should be able to handle that part well. ...That's why I won't hold back."
Father, Mr. Leol, and Mr. Lygar were all staring at Amatsu with fierce looks.
"You tried to lay a hand on my precious daughter. You know what's coming, right?"
When Amatsu was asked, he shook all over.
In the scenery moving away, I couldn't see his face, but I could tell from his vibe that he wasn't scared.
He was facing Father and the others... and he was happy.
"Good, good, this is the best. That killing intent, that power... I don't even know if I can reach you when I try my best... I've been waiting for someone like you all along."
The magical power bursting from Amatsu's body grew stronger and filled the sky.
It looked just like a scene drawn to show the end of the world.
I couldn't help but realize that what was about to start was the final battle that would decide the outcome of this war.
"Now... let's have some fun!!"
