Volume 3 Chapter 30 Signs Of Budding

Volume 3 Chapter 30 Signs Of Budding

 Dandelion's Hero Tale.

I had a faint recollection of the words Cosmos spoke.

 But I couldn't remember clearly.

"Have you never heard of it? It's the story of a boy, a Blasphemer (Weed), born in a remote rural village, who fights against a horde of monsters to save his village, despite being looked down upon by those around him. The boy's name is Dandelion, so it's called Dandelion's Hero Tale."

 "Is that a Hero tale?"

 Cosmos nodded, "Uh-huh".

If Dandelion's Hero Tale is the story she described, it perfectly matches what I remember.

That means I must have read that Hero tale before and just remembered the story.

I thought it was a tale I heard from someone else, but it seems I was mistaken.

"You often read adventure tales, so maybe you read it at some point?"

"Yeah, maybe. I think I read it quite a while ago."

So I don't really remember the details.

I only recall the main plot about the Blasphemer (Weed) boy defeating the horde of monsters to save the village.

"I think it's in this library too. But just because you research that story, I don't think it will actually make someone stronger if they don't have the job class."

"Well, I'll look into it anyway. Even if I just get a little hint, that's fine, and if I find nothing, I'll think of another way then."

Because right now, there's nothing else I can do.

For now, I have to at least try to investigate.

"It seems like you've taken on another troublesome request. Since we're at it, I'll help you search too."

 "Oh, thanks, Cosmos."

With a strong ally by my side, we decided to start looking for 'Dandelion's Hero Tale'.

Led by Cosmos, who regularly uses this library, we headed towards the shelf where adventure tales are gathered.

Well, we were trying to find information about Blasphemer (Weed) by feeling our way through all these books.

 It was just too reckless.

Meeting Cosmos here might have been a stroke of luck.

As I followed her small back, I was tapped on the shoulder from behind by Suisen.

"Hey, look at this, Roezé. There's a pretty interesting book here."

"Huh? Did you find something useful?"

"It's called 'The Enlightenment Book of the Embodiment of Beauty, Ranunculus.' Don't you think that's just rude? To talk about beauty while I exist? It's like discussing fruit without an apple."

 "..."

It was really a pointless conversation.

So I tried to ignore it and continue following Cosmos, but Suisen stubbornly called me back.

 "Wait, wait, that's not all."

"No, it's fine. Look, Ms. Cosmos is glaring at us with an intense look, so we should hurry. I might get caught in the crossfire too."

"That's not it, I really found something useful. It's a book called 'Job Class Research on Geraniums.'."

 "Huh?"

When I heard that, I turned around.

Sure enough, I saw a book with that name on the shelf Suisen was pointing at.

When Cosmos called and picked up the book, she frowned at the title.

"I've never heard of a researcher named Geranium. I wonder if they're doing research focused on job classes like Jasman?"

"Who knows? I haven't heard of them either, so maybe they aren't very credible. Besides, Jasman's ideas aren't really trusted either."

 "Who is Jasman?"

"He's the researcher who proposed the idea that 'the rarity and usefulness of job classes are proportional'."

It's a different story that Cosmos's father agreed with that idea and had high hopes for the still immature Cosmos.

Anyway, even Jasman Bouti, the leading figure in job class research, isn't really trusted by the public.

I don't think this book by this almost unknown researcher will be helpful, but...

I open the book and flip through the pages.

There might be some information about Blasphemer (Weed) in here.

"How is it? Do you think you can find anything?"

"Umm, it seems like they haven't done any research on Blasphemer (Weed). It looks more like they just collected special cases related to actual job classes and published the research results."

They were investigating special individuals who lost their job class.

They were also looking into villagers whose job class levels had dropped, uncovering that it was due to a monster's curse.

It seems they have some research results on Exceed, which is also called the job class evolution phenomenon.

But it appears they haven't researched Blasphemer (Weed), so there's no information like we were hoping for.

 "Hmm?"

However, I found something a little interesting in the book.

 "'Job class liberation'...?"

There's a record from a long time ago about an adventurer who fought a giant monster and saved a town.

Upon checking the details, it seems that when this adventurer was in a dire situation, they temporarily exhibited power that exceeded the limits of Divine Revelation.

Their job class level was already at its maximum, so they shouldn't have awakened a new ability, but at the moment between life and death, they seemed to have awakened an unknown ability.

This phenomenon is referred to as 'job class liberation' in the book.

It's not that the job class itself changed like Exceed, but rather the adventurer's "true power" was unleashed, allowing them to defeat the giant monster.

Because of this miraculous feat, the adventurer came to be called a "hero," and later, they started giving the title of 'hero' to others who achieved similar feats.

That's why this individual is known as the 'oldest hero' or the 'hero of beginnings.'.

The phenomenon of job class liberation was surprising, but I never expected to learn about the origin of heroes from this book.

"Did something happen on that page?"

 "Oh, no, sorry. It's nothing."

It was an interesting book, but it wasn't useful in the current situation, so I put it back in its original place.

Then we started walking again towards the adventure tales shelf.

After a little detour, we finally reached our destination thanks to Cosmos's guidance.

After that, we split up to search for Dandelion's Hero Tale.

 Then, right away...

 "Oh, isn't that it?"

 "Huh, which one?"

"I mean, the one on the top shelf..."

It seemed Cosmos found something that looked right and pointed to the upper part of the bookshelf.

However, she was quite short and was desperately stretching her arms while standing on her tiptoes.

In the end, she even tried to use her staff to point and say, "This one!" but still couldn't reach it.

I had no choice but to stand behind Cosmos and...

 "Whoa!"

I lifted her small body up.

Cosmos flailed her arms and legs in surprise.

"W-What are you doing all of a sudden?!"

"Well, I thought maybe you could reach it like this..."

"Even so, it's surprising when you do it out of nowhere! If you're going to do something, at least give me a heads up! I need to, you know, prepare myself mentally..."

While we were having that conversation, I was suddenly tapped on the shoulder from behind by Suisen.

I wondered what it was and turned around to see him with his index finger to his lips, winking his right eye.

"You two, this is a place for quiet reading. It's great that you're close, but could you be a little quieter?"

 "..."

I never thought I would receive a proper warning from Suisen.

But yeah, it was probably a bit loud just now.

Reflecting on that, I picked up the book that Cosmos had found again.

There was no title on the spine, but it seemed Cosmos's judgment was correct, as the cover of the book had the following written on it:.

 'Dandelion's Hero Tale'

The moment I saw that title and cover, it strongly triggered something deep in my memory.

"That's right. This is definitely the book.

It's a story about a boy named Dandelion, a Blasphemer (Weed), who defeats a horde of monsters and is celebrated as a Hero.

I didn't hear about it from someone else; I read this book and learned the story myself.

I remember that I actually liked the story quite a bit.

As I wondered why I had forgotten it until now, I flipped through the pages and awakened even more sleeping memories.

Born in a rural village, there was a very, very shy boy──Dandelion.

He was looked down upon by the villagers as a Blasphemer (Weed) without a job class.

Because of his cowardly and introverted nature, he was persistently bullied by the other kids his age.

However, there was one girl, his childhood friend, who was kind to him.

One day, the village was attacked by a horde of monsters, and that girl found herself in a dire situation.

Dandelion faced the monsters, not to save the village, but to rescue that one girl, and even as a Blasphemer (Weed), he managed to fend off the horde.

In the end, Dandelion saved the village, and the villagers apologized for their past treatment of him, eventually honoring him as a Hero.

That's the detailed story of Dandelion's turnaround.

Having remembered all that, I vividly recalled how Dandelion, the Blasphemer (Weed) without a job class, annihilated the horde of monsters.

"Right, Dandelion did it like this..."

When faced with death, Dandelion revealed his "secret feelings" to his childhood friend.

He had an incredibly grand "crush" on the only girl who had been kind to him.

In that moment, the shy Dandelion mustered his courage and confessed his feelings──.

He "awoke" the job class that had been sleeping within him".
