Volume 3 Chapter 31 Conditions Of Awakening
"Awakening a job class? Dandelion, who doesn't have a job class like me?"
"Yeah, that's right."
When I shared the story I remembered with Suisen, he widened his eyes in surprise.
He probably never expected that a fellow who was born without a job class would awaken one.
I was also shocked when I read this story back then; it made me question its authenticity.
"This Hero tale is based on historical facts, right?"
"...Well, it says so in this book. I think there are parts that have been altered a bit by the author's touch, but overall, it should be based on the truth. So, Dandelion definitely existed, and it's probably true that he awakened a job class despite being a Blasphemer (Weed)."
While I can't completely dismiss the possibility that it's entirely fictional, if I believe what's written, then this is a story true to history.
Dandelion inscribed a new job class onto that blank Divine Revelation.
If Suisen's job class awakens in the same way, I can use the Trainer's power to make him strong this time.
The type of job class he might have is still unknown, but he should definitely be stronger than he is now with a blank Divine Revelation.
"So, it means there's no one who can't get a job class. Then you should awaken your job class like Dandelion did."
"But how exactly do I awaken a job class? Should I confess to my beloved like Dandelion?"
"Hmm, I don't think it's that simple. If it were just about confessing to someone you like, then other Blasphemer (Weed) people would probably have done it too, but I haven't heard of anyone awakening a job class."
If it were just about confessing feelings to a crush, there should be many more examples.
I don't think confessing is the condition for awakening a job class.
"Then, does that mean the confession doesn't matter?"
"It's just my guess, but I think the act of 'confession' itself doesn't have that deep of a meaning. What's important is that the one who confessed was Dandelion, 'a very very shy boy,' right?"
"Shy?"
In the Hero tale, it's written that the confession was a significant turning point for Dandelion.
More than anything, he seemed to really care about his shy personality.
"The timid Dandelion must have needed a lot of courage just to tell his childhood friend how he felt. But when he faced a life-or-death situation, he was able to reveal his hidden feelings and let go of his weak heart."
"He let go of his weak heart..."
"By facing his weakness like that and making a big change in his heart, I think he was able to awaken his job class."
In other words, I thought that the 'change of heart' might be the key to awakening the job class.
I mean, there's really no other way to interpret this Hero tale.
Just then, as if to support my thought, Cosmos chimed in.
"Hey, you two, look at this."
"...?"
While we were pondering the Hero tale, it seems Cosmos found another book that might be helpful.
Looking at the book she brought, the author's name was Corsic, and the title was 'The Relationship Between Humanity and Divine Oracles.' It seems to be a book that researched the connection between job class and humanity.
The term 'divine oracle' appears to be an old word that meant the gods granting job classes.
Cosmos seemed to have found a noteworthy page in that book and opened it to show us.
"The relationship between 'humans without a job class' and divine oracles... this is about Blasphemer (Weed), right? You found it well."
"Since it's a book about job classes, I thought it wouldn't be strange if something like that was included. Well, there are only a few pages written about it, though."
Certainly, while the information itself seems limited, it contained something very valuable.
I found a common point among humans who have not been given a job class by God.
That is, they all carry some significant "trouble" in their hearts.
God seems to choose a job class that fits the person's humanity.
Therefore, humans who are born with a great trouble in their hearts cannot have a job class assigned by God due to their uncertain humanity.
If they can resolve their troubles and gain true understanding, God will grant them a job class anew.
Blasphemer (Weed) is not Blasphemer (Weed) because they were denied a job class for blaspheming God.
In short, that's what was written.
I'm resting my chin on my hand.
"People who haven't been given a job class carry some significant 'trouble' in their hearts, huh?"
"It actually says that there were people long ago who awakened their job class after eliminating their heart's troubles. It seems to be a story from a time when recording media was limited, so there probably isn't any concrete evidence left."
"But if this is true, it aligns with the story of Dandelion's Hero Tale."
I think the credibility is quite high.
There is a common point that humans who have not been given a job class by God carry a significant "trouble" in their hearts.
When they remove that trouble and solidify their humanity, God will awaken their job class anew.
Since there isn't any other reliable information, it might be worth believing this.
I thought about asking Suisen for his opinion, and when I glanced over at him...
"..."
Suisen seemed to be staring at the book, looking somewhat troubled.
It was as if he had something on his mind.
"Suisen, do you perhaps have some 'trouble' or something?"
"...!"
When I asked, Suisen looked up in surprise and quickly returned to his usual expression, brushing his bangs aside.
"Troubles? That means it's a person's 'weakness,' right? Do I look like I have such a thing? Unfortunately, I don't have any weakness at all. Well, if I had to pick one, it would be that not having any troubles is my only trouble."
"...You brought another outrageous person with you."
Seeing Suisen snap his fingers, Cosmos clearly looked exasperated.
"But I see. The fact that I don't have a job class means that the gods are still undecided about my fate. When you put it that way, it does sound convincing. It wouldn't be easy to decide on a job class suitable for someone like me."
Suisen said this, took a book from my hands, and smiled as he put it back on the shelf.
"Anyway, I've realized that even a person without a job class can awaken a job class. Let's continue to investigate and see if there's 'another way'."
"..."
Awakening a job class.
Given that there are examples, it wouldn't be bad to take a chance on that possibility.
But, well... I stretched my back and stifled a yawn.
"No, let's call it a day."
"Huh? Why, Roezé?"
"I'm tired from thinking about various things. Let's save the research for tomorrow. I just want to go home and rest."
"...You're still as lazy as ever."
I received an exasperated look from Cosmos behind me.
However, Suisen, perhaps concerned for me, nodded without trying to stop me.
"Got it, Roezé. Since I'm the one being helped to get stronger, I won't be selfish."
"Sorry for finding a hint to get stronger and then leaving."
"That's fine. Besides, I can still make some progress on my own research. You should go home and take it easy."
Taking his words to heart, I decided to take my leave.
I promised to meet again in front of the guild at the same time tomorrow and left the library.
Then, Cosmos followed me from behind, looking up at me with a puzzled expression.
"Is it really okay to go home now? We were just getting to a good part of the investigation."
"It's fine. I have a plan, just in case."
"A plan?"
When I asked Suisen if he had any "worries," I felt a bit of an awkward atmosphere.
After that, Suisen probably thought he was acting normally, but I kept sensing something off about him.
"Suisen said he has 'no worries,' but that face of his definitely says there's 'something' going on."
"What do you mean by 'something'? What exactly?"
"Something is just something."
I couldn't put it into words well, but it looked like he was hiding something.
It was as if he didn't want us to know about the worries he was carrying.
If I could figure out what that worry was, maybe I could help Suisen awaken his job class, just like Dandelion.
"So, I'm going to do a little investigating about that from now on."
"Investigating? What do you plan to do?"
I beckoned Cosmos, who was looking at me suspiciously, towards the path.
Then, after making sure no one was around, I placed my hand over my body and chanted a word.
"[Hide]."
