Volume 3 Chapter 29 You Can Do It If You Try
Realizing that Suisen doesn't have a job class, we decided to go to the library instead of the guild.
I thought that even if we took on a monster-hunting request now, we wouldn't be able to fight properly with the current state of Suisen.
So, I remembered a story from long ago about a Blasphemer (Weed) who didn't have a job class but defeated a horde of monsters and saved a town.
I thought there might be some hints there on how to become stronger.
When we visited the library to do some research, I was surprised to find a familiar face there.
"Oh, what a rare sight to run into you here!"
"C-Cosmos?"
I opened my eyes wide when I spotted the familiar figure of the young sorceress in a black robe.
She was sitting on a chair near the bookshelf, swinging her legs that didn't reach the ground while reading a large book.
I never expected to meet Cosmos here.
"W-What are you doing in the library?"
"Why, is it wrong for me to be here? I can read books too, you know."
"No, it's just a bit unexpected."
Since we usually hung out together, I didn't have the impression that she read much.
The image of "Cosmos in a library" felt a bit off.
She seemed more like someone who would be running around outside.
"I'm still a noble lady born into the Count Noir family, you know. I received special education as a child, so I have a certain level of culture. It's only natural for me to have a habit of enjoying books."
"Oh, really..."
I recalled that again.
Despite her appearance, it would be rude to say otherwise; Cosmos is indeed the Count's daughter.
She was abandoned by her cold-hearted parents and ended up being kicked out of her home, but it seems she was once expected to receive special education as a child.
So, it makes sense that she would have some education and a habit of enjoying books.
As we were having that conversation, Suisen, who had been watching us from behind, peeked in from the side.
"Roezé, who is that child over there?"
"Oh, sorry. This is Cosmos, and I've helped her grow as a Nurturer."
"Oh, I see..."
Suisen looked at Cosmos with curiosity.
In response, Cosmos twisted uncomfortably under that gaze.
...I don't know, but this combination feels a bit unsettling.
Then Suisen, seeing Cosmos's puzzled expression, gently extended his "right hand".
"Nice to meet you, Lady Cosmos. I'm Suisen Pride. ...The picture book corner is over there, so I'll take you there."
"Huh? What did you just say?"
"Susu, Suisen! Even so, Cosmos is an independent adventurer, and she's not as young as she looks!"
I was taken aback by what he started saying, so I quickly stepped back Suisen.
I was shocked.
What on earth was he saying? I should have told him first, but I never expected him to suddenly say something that would upset Cosmos.
"So, who is that really annoying guy over there? I should at least know his identity before I launch a [Meteor] at him."
"Pl-please, for the sake of my face, can you let that slide? After all, Suisen is my client."
"Client?"
Seeing Cosmos tilt her head, I asked Suisen if I could explain the situation.
He happily agreed, saying, 'Please do tell her about my wonderful love story,' so I went ahead and explained to Cosmos without hesitation.
Why Suisen had come to my Nurturer and requested help with his growth.
"I see. So you want to get stronger to confess to the receptionist."
After briefly explaining the situation, Cosmos nodded as if she understood.
Next, she smirked mischievously and said.
"Then if you cast support magic on him and let him use Fran's weapon, he could probably win against the receptionist even if he doesn't get stronger, right?"
"That's way too much of a temporary power!"
What kind of plan is that? It's too reliant on others.
If that's the case, Suisen's efforts wouldn't count for anything, and there's no way he'd be recognized for his skills.
Even if he could beat Ms. Alium, I couldn't imagine his love life going well after that.
So, of course, I had to reject that suggestion.
"Well, that was obviously a joke, but if you really want to get stronger, training outside of town is the best way, right? So why are you guys at the library?"
"Well, it's not that simple..."
As I hesitated about whether to explain the job class thing, Suisen proudly spoke up.
"I'm a free spirit, unbound by anything. There's no job class set by the gods for me."
"No job class?"
When Cosmos tilted her head, Suisen nodded proudly, "Uh-huh." Maybe he didn't like that attitude, as Cosmos turned to me with a displeased expression.
These 2 seem to have bad chemistry, I thought vaguely, and I decided to explain the situation again.
"Have you ever heard of 'Blasphemer (Weed)'?"
"Hmm? That's about people who were abandoned by the gods and didn't get a job class, right?"
"Just like those people, Suisen doesn't have a job class either. So even if he does monster subjugation, he can't grow, which is why I thought training outside of town wouldn't make sense..."
Then I looked towards the bookshelf and continued explaining.
"Well, I heard a story somewhere before about a person from Blasphemer (Weed) who defeated a horde of monsters and saved the town, so I thought if I looked into that story, I might find a way to get stronger in Suisen too. That's why I came to the library to do some research. But honestly, I barely remember what the story was about, so I think I'm going to have a really hard time finding it."
"A person from Blasphemer (Weed) defeated a horde of monsters..."
After Cosmos finished listening to the story, she frowned in suspicion.
As she were wondering if there was something strange about it, Cosmos suddenly seemed to realize something and opened her black eyes wide in surprise.
"Isn't that 'Dandelion's Hero Tale'?"
"Huh?"
