Chapter 84 Sham Neshana's Ability
It was an unexpected showdown that happened the next afternoon.
We were at a stone bridge near royal capital, led by Captain Shidou. Our main mission was to hunt beasts. This was our Reginleif's 'first mission.'
"Dang, this bridge is straight trashed!"
"Looks like it got flooded from the heavy rain a week ago. Since it's near royal capital, a lot of people use it, so they need to fix it quickly."
"Ugh, these guys are swarming like bugs."
Just like Shura said, the area around the bridge was filled with beasts. There were about 30 of them. From fish-like creatures to small humanoids we saw in Korghi Village, and even some wolf-like ones. Quite a variety.
"Goblins, Sahagins, orcs, and wolves? Hmm, there aren't any big ones! I wanted to show Quo my skills!"
"Hey, sister, don't let your guard down, okay?"
"Hmph. Just be careful not to trip over your own feet."
(Hehe, this is getting intense. I like this kind of tension.)
(You're sick one, Ms. Ruthless.)
Ms. Ruthless was in top form today, but it didn't feel like there was a serious rift between us. It was more like a competition.
"This time, I (the captain) won't get involved. You all try to handle it yourselves."
"You wanna see what kinda chaos we can stir up?"
"Hmph. It's a bit underwhelming as a test. But teamwork is everything. Do you think you can handle the rough waters without knowing each other's strengths and how to work together?"
"...You're jawin', but I'm ready for whatever. Bring. It. On."
I agreed about the teamwork part. But behind those words was a challenge, like saying, "If you can't handle this easy mission, I'll be disappointed."
Nice. It's a good way to pump us up.
"──Reginleif, let's go!"
"Yeah!"
"Okay!"
"Yes!"
"Alright!"
This was the kind of situation that fired us up.
With a shout, we grabbed our weapons and jumped into the crowd of beasts to complete our first mission.
(Yeah, bossin' up like a vice-captain now!)
(Whoa, that's dirty. As expected of the Master, so sneaky.)
Ms. Ruthless.
I think the saying "the one who speaks first wins" is pretty cool.
* * *
I made a statement to kick off the battle and tried to show some leadership. Or so I thought.
But the one who actually started the fight was a cat-girl with amazing speed who charged in first.
"Meooowww!!!"
[What!?]
With a cat-like shout, the girl with sky-blue hair scattered the beasts. And when I say scattered, I mean they literally flew away.
"Come on, come on! Check this out! This is the unbeatable Sham-Sham's super power attack!"
Her battle cry sounded like something from an ancient Chinese general, which was way too much of a contrast for such a cute girl. But even more surprising than her shout was the weapon in Sham's hand.
She was swinging a huge iron ball attached to a stick, big enough to be as heavy as an adult.
No normal person could even lift that, yet Sham was swinging it around with one hand.
"...How in the hell is she wieldin' that iron ball like a feather? What kinda crazy strength does she pack?"
"...This is insane. Swinging it with one hand? What kind of arm strength is that? It's ridiculous. I feel like I've been tricked."
"She can move faster than normal people with that thing. I get why you're shocked. I was too when I first saw it."
"Meooowww!!"
Quollio and I shocked. It looked like a joke, but for the beasts, it was no laughing matter. Well, Shura is also shocked at first.
Anyway, the violent force coming at them didn't even give them a chance to fight back, and one by one, the beasts turned into black smoke.
They probably realized they couldn't fight her one-on-one. Instead of attacking individually, they all charged at Sham at once.
"All-out attack? Hehe, that's too easy! You're just flying into the fire! Take this... 'Hurricane Storm'!!"
But Sham was waiting, her eyes shining, spinning her body like a top while holding a heavy iron ball. The center was her body, and the heavy ball was flying outwards.
In no time, Sham turned into a literal storm of violence, and the summer guys who jumped at her were in big trouble. It was obvious what would happen.
I mean, seriously.
"Whoa, sick skills... that was straight fire!"
(Wow, that's so lame.)
(What?)
(Huh?)
Huh. Isn't it cool? It's like a hurricane storm, right?
Shouting out the name of the move and pulling off a big technique is so romantic. Come on, Ms. Ruthless, don't act like that!
"Hehe, how about this big move...! Did you see that, Quo! This is my power! ...Ugh."
"...When did you become a Sahagin-type beast?"
"...You got dizzy, didn't you, sister? That's why I told you not to use that move too much."
While feeling the unexpected difference in direction, Sham pointed somewhere and looked proud. Her eyes were spinning around.
Oh, wow. What is this girl? Is she super strong or not? I guess this is what they call a muscle head.
[Gieee!!]
[wol--fff!!]
[gobuuuu!!!]
"Ugh, I'm feeling dizzy..."
"Uh-oh. Sister is surrounded!"
"Geez, this is such a hassle."
And now she's suddenly in trouble.
I guess she has a lot of potential, but she tends to get carried away with it. Looking at Shura, who was holding her head, I understood what kind of girl Sham was, for better or worse.
But this isn't the time to be shocked. Sham, who looked a bit green in the face, needed our help, so we rushed to save her. But before we could get there, a singing soprano voice echoed.
"'Quick, quick, welcome back!'"
A soprano sound came from behind.
When I turned around, I saw Lyam, wearing a white silk apron, drawing a circle on the ground with a bamboo broom while chanting a spell.
"To your home. In my heart──'Silky's Devotion'"
"...Huh?"
As soon as the chant was finished, Sham's body suddenly stopped for a moment.
Then, in the next second...
"Whoaaa!!!"
It was like an invisible hand was pulling her, and Sham was flying through the air at high speed.
"Thud!?"
And then she landed right in the magic circle that Lyam had drawn with her bamboo broom.
"Ouch! Did I get saved? I got saved! Thanks, Lyam!"
"Geez... you really shouldn't push yourself too hard, sister."
"Sorry, sorry!"
(Damn, was that Lyam's trickery?)
(Ooh. That's 'yellow intermediate magic.' She used it to pull her sister in. Nice job, little sis!)
Lyam's 'Silky's Devotion.'
With Ruthless's explanation, that circle drawn with the bamboo broom was the catalyst.
So, Lyam is a yellow magic user. And that quick thinking! Her sister is also impressive with her vanguard skills.
Hmm. Wow. I see.
(...This is bad.)
Dear Goddess, it's been a while. This is the protagonist.
I might be in trouble because my new ally is too capable, and I won't have a chance to shine.
What should I do?
What should I do!?
