Volume 1 Chapter 27 Is That Pebble A Rough Stone?
I decided to help Cosmos, and I immediately started taking action the next day.
Apparently, Cosmos usually hunts monsters in the "Western Forest."
Thinking about how that little pebble has been fighting solely with magic is pretty heartwarming.
Anyway, after hearing that, I decided to stop my training there.
I had hoped to help with her growth in the Western Forest since I had experience hunting monsters there with Rose.
However, if Cosmos has already fought the monsters around that area, she wouldn't be able to receive the divine blessing from the initial monster hunt divine growth point.
If I want her to level up efficiently, I definitely want her to actively aim for those initial monster hunt divine growth points.
"So, where are we going then?"
After being asked this obvious question, I thought for a moment before answering.
"We'll walk a bit, but let's head to the Eastern Ruins. I think there are a lot of monsters there that you haven't fought yet, so if you can take them down, you should be able to earn a ton of initial monster hunt divine growth points."
"Ruins? Is there really such a place?"
We had already had a conversation about how we'd find out once we got there the day before.
So, the next morning, we met up and set off from Hyamars town to head to the ruins.
Walking to the Eastern Ruins would take a whole day, so we decided to use a carriage for the trip.
This way, we could get to a small village near our destination.
By using the carriage, we arrived at the village in about 3 hours, and we walked the remaining distance on foot.
After about an hour of walking, we finally reached the ruins, taking roughly 4 hours in total.
It's not a distance that makes a day trip impossible.
Just in case, I hung a handmade sign saying "Out on a trip" on my front door, so staying in the village wouldn't be a problem if it came to that.
Still, it's better to get back quickly, so I decided to start her training right away.
"This place is just full of stone debris."
Cosmos looked around at the ruins with a curious gaze, taking in the moss-covered stone structures.
There were chunks of stone and broken pillars scattered all over the place, making it look pretty rough.
This spot isn't well-known even among rookie adventurers; they only come here occasionally for monster-hunting requests.
The monsters that show up are quite a hassle, and the tough fighting environment keeps people away.
But I thought it'd be a good place to train without any interruptions, so I brought Cosmos along.
She could've just taken down the Emperor Ant like I did with Rose and leveled up quickly, but I decided against it this time.
Honestly, that method is way too risky.
I'd take out the Strain Ant while Rose would solo the Emperor Ant.
Looking back, it was a pretty tightrope act.
We got lucky that time.
Plus, with Rose, there was still a chance of winning with some support magic, but with Cosmos, it's a lot more uncertain.
Given all those worries, I aimed for the ruins' monsters this time.
"*Rumble Rumble*!"
After a quick stroll through the ruins, a monster attacked right away.
It was a humanoid figure made of square bricks.
It's called a 'Stone Golem.' The figure, about the size of an adult man, lunged at me with a sound like a broken toy.
"Alright, let's stick to the plan."
"Got it!"
Cosmos backed away from the Stone Golem, which was swinging its stone arms wildly.
Meanwhile, I pulled out my knife and deflected the golem's attacks with the blade.
To be honest, dealing with this kind of weapon is a pretty bad match-up.
There's a chance my weapon could get smashed, but unfortunately, I don't have many other options.
Well, as long as I don't force the attack, my weapon should be fine.
More than anything, I just need to distract the monster a little.
It's Cosmos who's going to take it down, not me.
"[Enhance]."
I cast support magic remotely on Cosmos, who was standing a bit away.
As blue light flickered around her body, she readied her staff in response.
"[Meteor]!"
A stone, slightly larger than the pebble I saw the other day, shot out from the tip of the staff.
The stone zipped past me at quite a speed, making a loud noise as it slammed into the stone golem.
A small crack appeared on the golem's body.
"Now, Cosmos!"
"[Meteora]!"
Taking advantage of the stone golem's moment of hesitation, Cosmos unleashed a series of magic spells.
Stones were fired in rapid succession from the tip of her staff, crashing into the golem's body one after another.
Eventually, as the cracks spread across its body, the left half of its stone form shattered, losing balance and collapsing to the ground.
"*Rumble*... *Thud*...!"
Letting out a voice that sounded like a broken toy, the stone golem crumbled with a loud crash.
I stared at the pile of bricks left behind and nodded to myself.
Thank goodness.
It seems that even with her current magic, Cosmos can take them down just fine.
While sharp weapon attacks didn't seem effective, her magic seems to be a great match for this.
As I felt relieved, I noticed that Cosmos was staring at the remains of the stone golem, frozen in place.
Her gaze shifted from the tip of her staff to her own hands, and finally landed on me.
"This is support magic... My magic can have that kind of power, huh?"
"Yeah, just like I explained on the way here. This is the kind of magic that a Nurturer specializes in. With this, it looks like you can handle the monsters around here without any problems."
"..."
When I smiled quietly, Cosmos froze with a surprised expression.
After a moment, she suddenly looked away, her cheeks inexplicably flushed, showing a hint of embarrassment.
"Well, it seems like it's a pretty useful magic. I mean, since I'm paying for this, I expect at least that much from you..."
"...I'm glad you seem to like it."
That was quite a roundabout way of complimenting me.
I would have preferred if she just said it directly, but I thought that as I conveyed my feelings again.
"Alright, let's keep this momentum going. But remember, I want to prioritize safety, so if your Magic is running low, just let me know right away."
"Got it!"
So, we decided to proceed with monster hunting, keeping safety as our top priority.
It had already been a week since we started getting help from Cosmos.
Today, just like before, we took down a bunch of stone monsters, racking up those divine growth points that are essential for leveling up our job class.
By now, she was getting pretty used to fighting the stone-type monsters, and she had probably hunted most of the species by this point.
Suddenly, Cosmos checked her Divine Revelation.
Then, she slammed the Divine Revelation paper down onto the cobblestones with a loud *thud*, letting out a scream that echoed throughout the ruins.
"Not even a little!!! I'm not getting stronger at all!!!"
