Chapter 8 Joining Test And The Gray Maiden

Chapter 8 Joining Test And The Gray Maiden

Time has passed, and it's the 27th of Aries.

In modern terms, it's the end of March.

In other words, the day of the Knight Order entrance exam has finally arrived.

(Wow, there are so many people... This can't just be the graduates. There are probably some general applicants here too.)

Einherjar Knight Order Headquarters, commonly known as Valhalla.

It's located right next to Asgardam Royal Castle.

All the exam takers have gathered here, and just looking around, there are at least a hundred people.

I wonder how high the competition is. Well, I'm not too worried.

After all, I'm the protagonist. I won't fail, so I'm totally fine.

"Don't act like a country bumpkin and look around so much. You'll make me look bad."

"Kuku, sorry! I didn't expect so many people."

"...People are like trash." (There are a lot of people.)

"After all, it's just a bunch of commoners. Compared to me, they're just dust. They really think they can come here and pass; they don't know their place."

And it's the same 2 childhood friends as always.

Since I turned down Ruzure's invitation the other day, I was actually feeling a little guilty about it, but it seems like it didn't matter.

He looks nervous, but maybe he's just straightforward. Guys can be like that sometimes.

Maybe I was feeling a bit sentimental about our strange friendship.

I didn't notice the presence approaching from behind at all.

 "Hey."

 "Huh?"

I turned around and forgot to breathe.

She was beautiful. No doubt about it, she was a stunning girl.

She looked like she belonged to another world.

Her long, slightly wavy silver-gray hair. Even the small mole under her left eye had a touch of beauty. She was the kind of beauty you see once in a thousand people.

All those compliments didn't even feel exaggerated; she was captivating, regardless of gender.

I was so close to her that I lost my words, and my mind went blank. But somehow, I managed to stay conscious because of...

The fierce look in her red eyes... that wild, stray dog-like glare.

"Tour eyes look freakin' intense." (Her eyes look mean.)

"...I don't want to hear that from you."

Well, I accidentally said it out loud because of that.

Yeah, she was beautiful, but her intensity was no joke.

"I don't want to hear that from you!"

Why did she say it twice? It's scary, so please stop.

I guess sound effects can cross into different worlds because I definitely heard it. It was like a glare that pierced right through my eardrums.

"How long are you going to keep staring?"

"That's the real question for you, ain't it?" (I didn't mean to, though. It's kind of mutual.)

"Oh, really? Then move aside quickly. You're in the way."

 "?"

"The entrance. You're blocking it. Got it?"

"...Sorry for being so big." (Oh, my bad.)

 "Hmph."

When I took a step back from our glaring match, the girl passed by without softening her stern expression.

She was super scary. Being beautiful made her presence even more intense.

As the protagonist, I tried not to lose my cool in front of a beautiful girl, but it was pretty close.

"Whoa... heh, heh. That girl had an amazing body. Sir Ruzure, that girl was something else, right?"

"Uh... well, yeah? Compared to the others, she might be a bit better."

Just when I thought I could relax, I heard my childhood friends whispering something crude.

 Yeah, I can't say I don't understand their feelings.

She was tall. Both her height and her... outfit.

She wore a thin black long-sleeve shirt that showed her shoulders and a bright red scarf, which made her look even more impressive.

Her black slit skirt and one leg in black stockings were eye-catching, even from behind. I wanted to comment on her fashion sense, but...

(Is she also an exam taker? With that presence, she's definitely not ordinary.)

It was obvious. She was an important character.

Her aura was like a drawn sword. The faces of Ruzure and Shouk after seeing her looked so plain in comparison.

I can't really talk about looks, but it's not uncommon for the protagonist to have a pretty normal face. I don't wish I looked like a handsome guy. I've grown attached to my appearance.

"Well, everyone just stands there watching. They don't have any guts. After all, they're just commoners, feeling shy around a beautiful girl."

"Huh, beautiful? Sir Ruzure, you just said she was okay..."

"Shut up! I mean she's beautiful, but not good enough for me. Hmph, fine. Then I'll show you the difference between a pathetic commoner and a noble."

"Wow, that's Sir Ruzure for you!"

 "...Huh?" (Wait, is he serious?)

Just when I started to worry about my own face, my childhood friend suddenly said something outrageous.

No way. What does he mean by showing off? Is he planning to hit on her?

It's not like he's going to swoop in with a cape or something.

"Hey, you over there. Can I have a moment of your time?"

 "...Huh?"

(He really went for it! We don't even know when the exam starts, and what's he doing?!)

Before I could stop him, Ruzure was hitting on the girl.

He even winked, made a cool face, and deepened his voice. Of course, it looked completely ridiculous on him.

 "What do you want?"

"Well, it's a greeting. I'm Ruzure Senegal. A noble who serves the Asgardam royal family. You can see my elegance, my demeanor, my gestures, right? It's a nobility that commoners can't match."

 "..."

"You seem speechless. But that's understandable when talking to a noble. However, I can see it in your eyes. Those beautiful, wine-red eyes show that you're interested in me. Am I right?"

 (This is terrible.)

She clearly looks like, "What is this guy?"

Sure, those are words that a regular guy would never say. Even a handsome guy might not get away with that. Honestly, in a way, it's impressive.

"So, how about after this exam, we have dinner together? Of course, at my favorite noble restaurant. It's not just any place..."

 "...Huh."

I can't bear to listen any longer. With a sigh that says it all, I nod in agreement.

Then, she suddenly pulled something out and shoved it in front of Ruzure.

 "A candle...?"

What she showed him was just an ordinary candle.
