Chapter 7 Sara Merifar's Expectations
"Big brother, what really happened to you?"
Breathing heavily, Sara Merifar was confused by the sight of her brother lying in the garden, looking satisfied.
No, to be precise, she had been confused for a while.
It had been 3 days since his high fever finally went away.
For Sara, her brother, Hiiro Merifar, was a man who had nothing to do with hard work.
He was lazy, spoke little, and had no strong opinions or beliefs.
He had become more foul-mouthed after hanging out with his old friend Ruzure, and he never opposed what others said, just going along with whatever was told to him.
He was timid, unlike his tall stature. He was supposed to be an ordinary person with no special qualities.
"I wonder if it's because of that fever..."
Her brother had changed. Clearly.
Ever since he declared on the day he graduated from the Training Academy that he would become the best knight in the country, he had been training hard every day.
Sara was stunned. She was shocked by her brother's clear declaration and the intensity of his training, which was no joke.
"But I've never heard of a fever changing someone's personality... and it seems like no one in the village understands it either."
In the village of Helmel, located at the foot of the Royal Capital, everyone who lived there was surprised by Hiiro's transformation, but no one had any idea what was going on.
Of course, they had no knowledge of a fever that could change a person.
Even when she asked the village's smartest elder, Grandma Ruchaaba, she simply said, "I have no idea."
According to the village gossip, some speculated that it might be because he wanted to impress a beautiful girl he had fallen for.
When she asked him about it, he just dodged the question, saying, "It's because I'm Hiiro (Hero)." That made no sense to Sara.
"Turning down an invitation from Ruzure... that was something that would have never happened before."
What surprised Sara the most was 2 days after the graduation ceremony.
Her brother prioritized training over going out with Ruzure, who had come to invite him to the town.
It was unbelievable. Of course, Ruzure and Shouk, who had probably invited him first, were confused.
Ruzure was not just confused; he was furious.
For someone like him, it was unthinkable to go against Ruzure. Especially to choose training over hanging out.
However, even when Ruzure invited him a second time, Hiiro did not agree.
In the end, Ruzure left, shouting insults that made Sara want to cover her ears.
She still remembered how her brother silently watched Ruzure leave and then resumed his training without a word. She even ran to the village healer to get eye drops.
"..."
There were so many things she didn't understand.
But there was one thing she was sure of.
Her brother was serious. He was genuinely aiming to be a knight.
Not just a follower of Ruzure, but the best knight in the country. Some villagers laughed at him, some admired him, and some found it creepy.
Sara understood their feelings. For a small villager like her, it was an incredibly ambitious dream.
But she was family. And because she was family, she knew some things.
He was foul-mouthed, had a bad appearance, and was always pushed around.
He had nothing to be proud of, but he had never lied to his sister.
"...Maybe I should at least get him a towel."
Good luck, big brother.
But the encouragement felt too embarrassing to say out loud, so she kept it to herself.
As she scratched her freckled cheeks, Sara hurried to get a towel.
Sara Merifar was just an ordinary girl, the sister of a background character.
She was a simple village girl, not attending a knight's Training Academy, and had never even held a sword.
So, she couldn't realize what was happening.
Running, about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles).
Doing 100 push-ups, sit-ups, back exercises, and squats, plus swinging a wooden stick 500 times.
What would happen to the body if someone suddenly started such intense training?
Of course, it would scream in pain. On the first night, Hiiro's whole body was naturally suffering from muscle pain.
But the next day, he did the same training routine as before without hesitation.
With pain so intense that he could barely walk.
With pain so severe from one push-up that it felt like he might break.
With pain so strong from one swing that he could drop the weight in his hand.
Despite all that pain, he endured it all.
Sweating and screaming, while remembering all of it fondly, I push through.
How 'strange' that is.
Whether it's good or bad. His sister Sara couldn't possibly notice.
In the end, Hiiro didn't skip or lessen his training even for a single day until the day of the entrance test.
