Volume 8 Chapter 31 The Evil God ●●●●● Battle - Part I
I watched the Anti-Bael squad, riding on Typhon, speed away and then stood before the Evil God.
Pure white hair and skin. A faded, luxurious robe. A large horn. His eyes were gloomy and his gaze unfixed.
"Alright Wade, looks like we're about to go on a god-killing spree at just the right time. We've got enough firepower here. The enemy is most likely a Norse god. Based on experience, Norse gods are pretty easy to kill."
It was Mudi who spoke to me. Ice and Toxy were also nearby, keeping an eye on the village demons who were glaring at us.
Our team consisted of me, Mudi, Ice, and Toxy.
Mudi and I would be the main attackers against the Evil God, and Ice and Toxy would provide support.
"Why are Norse gods easy to kill?"
"It's simple. Killing a god is all about following the mythology. So, if a god has died once in mythology, it's easy to replicate the cause of death. And in Norse mythology, they all die in Ragnarok. That's pretty much it."
I see, so if a god has died in a myth, it's almost certain that they're dead, so you can win by replicating the cause of death. The logic is sound, but Mudi is unfathomable as always.
As we were having this conversation, the Evil God blew his horn loudly. I sensed magical energy invading my ears and head, and I repelled it with my Sahasrara chakra.
"Ugh! Ice! Toxy! Are you okay!"
"I, I'm fine...!"
"Noisy...! I'm fine too!"
Although both of them were holding their ears and looked pained, they seemed to have dealt with the magical invasion. Ice stuffed ice into her ears, and Toxy had her hydra eating the invading magical energy from the inside.
Of course, Mudi, as expected, looked completely calm and just clicked his tongue, saying, "Ugh, so noisy." Man, he's really strong. I thought that again.
However, the surrounding demons weren't so lucky. They all stood still, limp, as if their strength had drained from their necks.
The Evil God took his mouth away from the horn. Then, he said.
"Anthem."
The evil god waved the horn like a conductor's baton. The demons, their eyes blank, raised their heads and chanted together at the sky.
'''Come, our kin, come to the God, come, our kin, come to the God.'''
The evil god blew the horn again. His Anthem mixed with the demons', creating a sort of sacred song.
Then, a pitch-black light appeared in the middle of the sky. It flickered and dimmed. The black light blurred my vision.
The evil god stopped blowing the horn and started to say something.
"Babidi."
The black light flashed. A demon appeared from within and fell.
"Ouch... huh!? Wh-what? What happened!"
"Drago."
The black light flashed again. Another demon appeared and landed on the ground.
"Ouch!" "Whoa! ...You, Drago? Why are you here?" "That's what I want to know! Babidi!"
From their conversation, I realized that the evil god was calling out the demons' names. Just as I thought that, the evil god blew the horn at the 2 demons.
The demons, Babidi and Drago, looked as lost as the others. The evil god waved the horn again. Then, the mouths of the 2 demons started to form words.
"Zamza, Janemba, Deelik, Turles." "Burter, Recoome, Jeice, Cooler."
With each name called, a demon fell from the black light. They immediately listened to the evil god's horn, lost their minds, and either joined the list of names or the chant.
I couldn't help but say,
"...The evil god, he's crazy, right?"
"Of course he is. He's a god after all. There's no way the trash can go against him. It's so godlike of him to not even care about us at this point."
Mudi laughed. While we were doing that, the evil god kept summoning more demons and putting them under his control. The speed was increasing exponentially, and the place was about to be flooded with demons.
"Wade, kun..."
It was Ice who called my name.
"What should we do...?"
"Alright, let's get this show on the road. We can't just sit here and watch." I snapped back to reality. "So, here's what we'll do," I said, forming my words.
"First, let's hit the evil god with everything we've got and make an impression. Toxy, you're up!"
"Got it! Everyone else, stay up here!"
I picked up Ice and floated us up into the air using gravity magic. Mudi said lazily, "Guess I'll go up too," and floated up casually.
"...Mudi, are you making stairs under your feet or something?"
"Who knows?"
Mudi reached the same height as us and sat down as if there was an invisible chair, crossing his legs.
Toxy rose up to just below us on the back of a phantom hydra. I knew what she was planning and chuckled, "Toxy's being ruthless."
"Toxy-chan, what are you doing...?"
I answered Ice's question.
"She's making a sea of poison."
"Alright, here we go! Hydra!"
'Very well! Now, demons, melt away in my breath!'
[Poisonous Dragon Breath]
A massive amount of poison spewed out from all 9 heads of the phantom hydra. The village was instantly enveloped in a sea of poison. The evil god and the demons were all swallowed up by the sea of poison.
"Whoa! Toxy, I can't call you trash anymore. Philia really turned you into something else."
"Wade-kun, is Toxy-chan's move like the one she did in Nightfather's ruined city...?"
"Yeah. It's still gross. And from what I can see, the poison is way stronger this time."
I grinned and looked down at a specific spot on the ground.
"Alright, we landed our first blow. Let's get this fight started. Evil god, how are you gonna react to this?"
Immediately, a giant horn sounded and a clear space appeared in the center of the evil god.
I realized he was physically blowing away the sea of poison with the sound waves. That's messed up. As expected of an evil god. I guess you could call him a god after all.
With the sound of the horn, the Poison Sea spread outward. In the end, only remnants of the poisonous liquid remained in the village.
But the damage was immense.
Countless demons were melted and lay there, their bones exposed. But among them was something strange. A giant orb protected by bones. It radiated an eerie presence, right next to the evil god.
The evil god glared at Toxy, and by extension, at us, with a face full of rage. Its skin was melting away. As expected of a poison that could kill a god.
Mudi chuckled at its reaction.
"You guys landed a great opening punch. Alright, now this is where the real fun begins. Look. The evil god looks like it's getting serious."
The evil god blew its horn again. The high-pitched sound intensified the flickering black light, spewing out countless new demons.
Those demons, devoid of self, writhed under the evil god's will. Some directly targeted us, while others gathered together.
They gathered around the bone orb. The demons that gathered there clung to the orb as its core, swelling up. Gradually, the bone orb lifted, and the demons piled up on top of it like insects, eventually transforming into an aberration.
A giant made of demons, as big as Clay's Typhon.
Even the other demons, each armed with a weapon, glared at us. At the very back, the evil god blew his horn again. With that alone, all the demons came under the evil god's control.
"Perfect."
I said with an evil grin. The demon collective, the scattered weapon-wielding demons, and the main evil god. More demons were still being summoned from the black light.
"I was planning on collecting the demons and making them slaves. It's a blessing that the evil god is calling them all for me. Isn't that right?"
"Ye-yeah..."
"Ah! That's right!"
"Hahaha, you're right!"
The 3 of them agreed with me. I called out, "Come, Durandal," and Durandal appeared beneath me with gravity magic. I feel like this is becoming a kind of abbreviated incantation.
I smiled.
"Alright, it's time to rampage. Let's kill the evil god!"
'Roger!'
We laughed savagely. Mercilessly, we would crush everything.
