Volume 10 Chapter 10 The Unseen Fate And The High-Altitude Spectacle

The air trembled, and in an instant, our hidden empty house was reduced to dust.

"――――I guess even gods can't help but laugh at this!"

The wind swirled, becoming a storm, and began to whip us mercilessly. It was like being trapped in a wind prison. But it wasn't over yet.

"Everyone, scatter! If you can't escape, ask a strong person nearby for help!"

As I shouted, each of them responded. It seemed no one had lost consciousness.

Among them, I rescued Renril, who was near me, and used "Weight Increase!" to increase my weight, then escaped from the wind prison.

 "Thank you! Thank you!"

"Shut up, Renril! You'll bite your tongue!"

Renril, crying and thanking me, fell with me, and just before we hit the ground, I weakened the gravity and landed safely. When I released Renril, they stumbled and fell to the ground, their hands shaking like jelly.

"I-I thought I was going to die..."

 "You're always dying, you siblings."

"Well, that's true, but this time, I felt a level of death that was on a completely different scale."

Renril tried to explain the indescribable sensation, waving their hands about. I laughed wryly and said, "I understand how you feel, though."

I looked around. Behind the rocks. I waited cautiously, but nothing happened.

It seemed Poseidon had lost track of us. But we couldn't let our guard down. We should move to a safe location quickly.

 Renril asked me anxiously.

"What do we do now, Master?"

"For now, let's scatter and escape. Our original goal was to have the evil god ravage the slums, after all. Ede Wolf is a big organization, so we'll wait for them to weaken."

We couldn't challenge them immediately. We needed to hide and buy time.

The others were experienced, too. I had already given them the minimum guidance, so they wouldn't hesitate in their actions.

So, unfortunately, our team's decision was finalized. It was a shame, but we had no choice. This kind of thing happens.

I tried calling out to them, but there was no response.

 "...yeah, I guess so."

Everyone's still in the midst of a fierce battle, I thought. If I just wait for the right timing, they'll contact me. There's no need to worry about them.

But, to be honest, I'm not completely worry-free either. Rollo, Rollo...

...if I'm being honest, I'm also worried about Ice, who's not good at close combat. But if I overprotect her, she'll get angry, so I'll just believe in her as her partner.

Anyway, that's how it is. We don't even know how much Ede Wolf has been worn down, or when they'll make their move.

In that case, our plan is basically set in stone.

"Alright, Renril. Let's head up to the Tower for now. We'll take a defensive position on high ground and check out the city's situation."

"...so we're planning to rampage through the slums, huh? Got it. I'm just a small fry, but I'll do my best."

 "Good, that's the spirit!"

I patted Renril on the back to encourage him, and we set off together towards the Demon King's castle tower.

The cityscape we ran through was a terrible sight.

"Oh gods! Oh gods! Oh gods!"

The fake demon, driven by their false will and engraved with runes of faith, were crying and wailing at Poseidon's tyranny.

"What's with those guys?! Damn it! You guys, deploy! We can't let the slums get destroyed like this!"

A group that looked like the Dark Guild's demons was charging in with weapons drawn.

And there were corpses that didn't say a word, left scattered all over the place.

Standing in the midst of all that chaos was Poseidon, the god of the sea and earthquakes. One of the strongest gods in Greek mythology.

Even from a distance, his rampage was still intimidating.

The storm was raging, the earthquakes were intermittent, and the city was collapsing. This area of the slums was already half-destroyed.

And the residents of the slums were in a state of panic. It seemed Poseidon had become an existence that the slums couldn't ignore.

"The Dark Guild's also been destroyed, it seems..."

As we passed by the Dark Assassin Guild, we heard a demon's voice crying out for help, "Save me!"

 "Wade-sama, that voice just now..."

 "...yeah, let's go."

We would've ignored it if it was just some unknown demon, but since we recognized the voice, we headed towards the guild's ruins.

 "Let's go!"

Using gravity magic, I reduced the weight of the rubble and lifted it up, creating an opening for Renril to slip in and pull the demon out.

The one who emerged was a small, cat-like creature with a snake's tail――it was Mung, the Tamer.

"T-thank you, Wade-san and Renril-san. If you hadn't saved me, I would've died a slow death in a few days..."

 "You're welcome, it's good that you're safe."

Renril nodded deeply in response to Mung's gratitude.

It's not like Renril to be so serious, I thought as I watched from the side. He usually has a more carefree image.

"No need to thank us, really."

We're the ones who actually did it, so there's no need to thank us. If anything, we should be the ones apologizing.

As I thought this, Mung looked at Poseidon's rampage in the distance and covered his face, "H-hey, this is terrifying..."

"What the hell is going on? This is Nilfheim, hell itself. The buildings are collapsing left and right, and I can hear people worshiping gods everywhere. I'm going crazy..."

 "..."

I averted my gaze. Mung noticed and looked at me with an incredulous expression.

"...Wait, are you serious? I did receive that request, but was it you? Was it you guys?"

 "How much do you want?"

"Shut up, you idiot! You're way too flashy with your violence!"

I got punched in the face. I had no comeback, and just took the hit.

But Mung didn't seem to want to scold me further, and instead crossed his arms, muttering "...but this is a good opportunity."

"Hey, Wade-san. This is fate. Even if it's just me, please take care of me. You'll need a Tamer's skills in the future, right?"

"Hey, are you serious? Will you become our ally?"

"I was already fed up with the Slum's job, anyway. When I think about it, I'm even grateful that it's been destroyed this far. You, are you good with the payment? I want you to hire me."

"Got it, the deal is settled. I'll rely on you from now on, Mung."

We shook hands. Renril said, "Hey, it seems like things are getting pretty bad around here, don't you think?" while worrying about Poseidon's storm.

"Yeah, you're right. Let's move quickly. Mung, can you escape to the Bazaar? We caused this situation, but it's hard to say if we can control it. It's uncertain if we can protect ourselves."

"Just tell me the location of your hideout, and I'll escape there."

"Got it. The location is ——."

As I told him the location, Mung said, "Alright, I'll see you later," and ran off quickly. I saw him off, thinking, "He's really good at surviving."

From there, we ran again and moved to the foot of the Tower.

"We'll launch a full-scale attack to deal with the unknown storm! There are reports of a human figure at the center! It's possible that it's a man-made disaster!"

As I observed from hiding, the Demon King's army was forming a line, preparing to take on Poseidon with all their might.

It depends on how strong their top is, but from what I've seen, it doesn't look like they can do much.

"Also, there's information that an unknown fog has appeared in the second residential district! Be aware that there's a possibility of collaborating with the Demon King's army's second garrison battalion!"

Whoa, I think. Even Toxy, who's in charge of that god, Hygieia, seems to be doing something quickly. The Slum is already in chaos.

 "All units, depart!"

Upon receiving the commander's order, the Demon King's army began to move to suppress Poseidon.

In that case, they'll probably die a miserable death and revive at the Tower. Until the Demon King's army gets exhausted, I won't let my guard down.

"Alright, let's go. Up we go, Renril."

 "Yes, master."

We timed it perfectly and quickly climbed the Tower. The interior was the same as the previous tower. There was an auto-torture room where prisoners were suffering.

Demons are cruel. But, I think humans might be inherently like that too. And yet, laws and rules skillfully control and govern society.

Laws. Magic. The world's rules. While thinking about such useless things, we climbed to the top of the tower.

"Now, what's the battle situation like, I wonder?"

I peeked out the window and burst out laughing, "Hahaha, wow!"

The effects of the evil god summoning were devastating.

First, we had underestimated it. The sea and earthquake god, Poseidon. His earthquake's influence had already taken over half of the slum and was affecting the bazaar as well.

Moreover, upon closer inspection, I saw a strange chimera with a fish-like tail, like a lion or something, devouring demons in the city.

With Poseidon's power alone, it's capable of such destruction, and yet, there are those who can barely escape and are hunted by the demons they control... What kind of destructive power is this? Is this the strongest god in Greek mythology?

Next, there's Toxy, who's facing the poisonous goddess, Hygieia.

The massive river that splits the slum in 2, extending from the Demon King's castle. Crossing it would lead to the Demon King's army's second residential district. The same applies to other regions, with the Demon King's city divided into 6 sections by the river flowing from the castle.

And in the lowest part of the second residential district, it was accumulating.

A eerie, purple mist. The black, filthy mud accumulating in the depths. Just looking at it makes me shudder, and above it, a dragon-like Toxy is flying around erratically.

"What's going to happen to that...?"

 "What's that...?"

"I don't know what to do..."

Poseidon is too strong and a formidable enemy, but Hygieia's side is also unclear, and it's troublesome.

As I look down at the city, I see a familiar, fluffy figure leading many assassins.

"Ah, it's come out, you bunch of idiots!"

Ede Wolf. Don Fen, who's leading the charge, and the guild members following him, are raising their spirits and heading towards Poseidon.

As I watch this, I think to myself...

"No way, this is gonna make me crave some snacks and sweets!"

The strongest assassin in the Assassin's Guild, Don Fen the Wolfman.

His opponent was Poseidon, one of the strongest gods in Greek mythology.

I wondered how far Ede Wolf would go, and I started watching from the high ground.
