Volume 6 Chapter 8 Forge The Sword
I decided to tell the whole story of what happened this morning.
First, Fist of the Dragon challenged me. We had a match, and during that, my iron lump sword was broken.
When I shared this with Gold and Sylvia's sibling, they both had worried expressions.
"Is that true? Fist of the Dragon invaded and you repelled him?"
"There's no point in lying like that. We'll eventually have to fight anyway."
"But..."
"No, Sylvia. The way the sword broke is abnormal. Okay, I believe in your story."
I showed Gold how I could restore the iron lump sword to its original state when facing Fist of the Dragon. He nodded in agreement.
I won't go into detail about the "Rule of All Creation" and what I meant by it, as it confused everyone.
Gold traced the starting point where the iron lump sword was broken, following the path where Fist of the Dragon's finger landed.
"Actually, it's dented here, and then it was snapped from there. That must be how it broke. I made it thick and sturdy through magic and blacksmith experiments, but it's no match for Fist of the Dragon."
"I want to make it clear that the sword was more than enough until facing Fist of the Dragon. It worked against the boss on the 100th floor of the dungeon and even against Protean. It was a great sword. But it fell short against Fist of the Dragon."
"Hmm... If it has supported Wade until now, that's good. But Fist of the Dragon, huh..."
Gold pondered while looking down at the broken iron lump sword with a troubled expression. Sylvia excused herself, saying she would make some tea and left the forge.
"I just want to confirm, Wade."
"What is it?"
"Are you going to challenge Fist of the Dragon head-on, in a war, against that great hero?"
I nodded deeply in response.
"That's how it'll be. Otherwise, Karditsa will probably be taken over. Lord said so too. Probably, there's no one else besides me who can stop the Fist of the Dragon."
There are people stronger than me in terms of strength. They exist, but it doesn't mean anything if they're not in Karditsa.
"...I see. Yeah, that's probably true."
In response to my words, Gold's face became troubled. He stroked his bald head, then looked up at the ceiling and started thinking.
"Is it enough to be sturdy?"
"Hmm... that's a difficult question. Being sturdy is never a bad thing, but the biggest problem is that as it is now, it doesn't work against the Fist of the Dragon."
We clashed with all our might, but it was easily stopped. Even if it becomes unbreakable, it's meaningless if that issue isn't resolved.
After hearing my opinion, Gold fell silent for a moment. Then he asked another question.
"Wade, your magic is gravity magic, right? In other words, you make heavy things even heavier to increase their power."
"Yeah, that's right."
"In that case, is it better to make it heavier? Is it possible to make it too heavy that you can't hold it?"
"No need to worry about that. Yeah, I guess in that sense, the heavier, the better. But being too big is a bit of a problem. If it gets any bigger than this, it'll be troublesome."
It's already too big. I can't even walk straight without tilting it. I've been getting taller lately, but when I stand straight with the iron lump sword, I have to look up a bit.
Gold nodded in response to my answer. Then he fell into deep thought. Sylvia came back saying, "I've made some tea."
And at that moment, Gold shouted.
"Alright! I've come up with a plan!"
"Eeek! W-Why are you suddenly shouting like that, big brother?"
"Oops, sorry..."
Gold was scolded by Sylvia for spilling some tea and became flustered. But when he turned to face me, there was a familiar glimmer in his eyes.
Gold spoke.
"Wade, what you need is weight and sturdiness. Ease of handling is minimal. Usability is also minimal and not a problem. Because you use a magic sword, right!?"
"W-well, that's not wrong."
As Gold approached me, I felt a little pushed back. Sylvia made a sour face and said, "Bad habits are coming back..."
"And saying that heavier is better is because of its compatibility with magic! So, even if it's light, it's fine if it has power!"
"Well, that's true."
"Or rather, it doesn't even need to be in the shape of a sword!"
"Huh?"
Is the conversation taking a strange turn?
"Furthermore, being sturdy doesn't necessarily mean it has to be in the shape of a sword! It just needs to be usable as a weapon! It's fine if it can be used to hit and destroy enemies!"
"Y-yeah...that's true, but..."
"Then, it doesn't even need to be a sword!"
I looked at Sylvia. She closed her eyes and shook her head solemnly. Does that mean I should give up?
"Wade, answer me. I want to ask you, who has been using my sword with such care."
Gold asked me with eyes that glowed dangerously.
"You said you've defeated strong enemies with just this huge sword, right?"
"Y-yeah, that's right."
"Then, if I make a sword that's ten times stronger, will you be able to defeat the Fist of the Dragon? Will you be able to save Karditsa?"
Gold stared directly at me. I was almost overwhelmed by his presence, but I stared back with strong determination.
"I'll defeat him. The iron lump sword was already a strong sword. If I have a sword that's ten times stronger, it'll be easy."
"...I believe you. Make me the swordsmith who defeated the great hero."
"Yeah."
I nodded for sure. Gold smiled broadly and pounded his chest with his fist.
"Then it's settled! Wade, believe in me too. I'll make the best sword, even if it costs me a lot!"
"I'll leave it to you. ...What do you mean by 'even if it costs me a lot'?"
"Don't worry about it."
"No, I will worry."
"Don't worry about it."
"Scary. What are you planning? Scary. Tell me, okay?"
I asked anxiously to the calm Gold. Sylvia gently patted my shoulder.
"Wade... give up. Big brother is usually normal, but when it comes to blacksmithing and romance, he gets weird."
"...I see."
There, I remembered the label of 'weird' that Drop had given me.
It didn't seem strange when we talked lightly, but I guess this is...
