Volume 1 Chapter 12 Can I Eat This?
"W-Wow, this is... impressive..."
"Right? I never thought it would have such amazing effects."
After returning home, I woke up Lene, who was still lazily rolling around, and we were both in awe of the fresh vegetables before us.
Even though the buried spot was right in front of the house, it seemed the effects reached far beyond that.
Just how far did the effects go?
It's incredible that they grew from sprout to harvest in just one night.
However, the grass in the surrounding forest looked unchanged from yesterday, so it seems the effects only work in areas that are cultivated by people.
"...Huh?"
I felt a thump-thump on my waist from both sides, and it turned out to be the sisters.
"...Mr. Ryuuji, can we eat this!? This isn't a dream, right!?"
"Is it okay?"
"Uh, um..."
I looked to Lene for help, but she sighed as if to say, "You can't say no."
Ideally, I would want Lene to check if there are any harmful ingredients, but it pains me to leave the hungry girls waiting.
Well, I guess I can prioritize checking for any deadly ingredients while letting them eat to their heart's content.

"I'm so full... this is happiness..."
"So happy..."
I quickly made a stir-fry with dried meat, and the sisters, stuffed to the brim, were sprawled out on the floor of our house.
I'm keeping an eye on them just in case anything unusual happens.
"I've finished checking. I can't say for sure, but it should be fine. It's just regular vegetables."
"That was fast, Ms. Lene!?"
"I'm used to this kind of risk assessment."
I was presented with some words I didn't quite understand, but I could only say that I trusted Lene and it would probably be fine.
I wonder when they prepared the equipment.
The epitome of a researcher.
After that, I watched the sisters for about 3 hours, but nothing particularly unusual happened.
If that's the case, that <Magic Stone of Peul> must have some incredible effects.
But, however...
"Mr. Ryuuji, could it be that as long as that stone is buried, if we plant seeds every day, we won't have to go hungry anymore?"
Lana was a smart girl and seemed to understand the effective use of <Magic Stone of Peul>.
Certainly, just looking at the phenomena that occurred today, it would be correct to think that way.
However, that is assuming we ignore the nutrients in the soil.
"I'm sorry, Lana, but that's impossible. That stone seems to suck up all the water and nutrients in the soil, and eventually, it will turn into barren land."
Earlier, I had Lene check the soil, and she said it was in worse condition than yesterday, and that if we planted seeds now, they wouldn't grow.
From that, I can infer that the magic stone effectively provides the soil's moisture and nutrients to the crops without waste.
"...Nutrients?"
"Lana and the others need to eat a lot to grow big, right? To grow vegetables, we also need to feed the soil with various things."
I thought it would be easy to understand for the sisters, so I used a simple example to explain, but they ended up with the misguided answer, "Will the soil grow big too?"
...Well, I guess I'll explain it properly to them eventually.
By the way, I learned about soil nutrients when I was helping out in the fields.
I believe there are leaf fertilizer, fruit fertilizer, and root fertilizer.
"If that's the case, Mr. Ryuuji. Is it my turn now?"
It seemed Lene understood it as a matter of course, being an Alchemist.
And it appeared she could see beyond that without me having to say anything.
"Exactly. Can you make a potion that gives nutrients to the soil?"
"Yes, I can easily find the materials for soil improvement potions in the forest."
"I'm glad you're quick with your answers."
While I can speed up crop growth with the effect of the <Magic Stone of Peul>, I can't provide nutrients to the field itself.
It's a matter of using the right tools in the right places.
As for water, well, I guess I'll just have to carry it from the well bit by bit.
"Oh, right, Lana, Lena. I'll give that stone to you two."
"Huh, really!?"
Lana jumped up in joy at my suggestion.
Her silver braids bounced cutely.
"Ah, but in return, I have a favor to ask."
"A favor, you say?"
"A favor?"
The two tilted their heads to the left in unison.
Their cuteness made Lene let out a strange sound beside me, but I'll pretend I didn't hear it.
