Volume 2 Chapter 8 Stone Diviner Apprentice, Realizing Accuracy
The day after my first job, a lost little lamb wandered into my home.
With a troubled expression, the lost little lamb clearly looked like she was grappling with something.
"Lady Elena... are you free today?"
"Um, well, just come in for now."
If we're to say whether I was free or not, I wasn't really free.
Though I was still an apprentice and hadn't started my real work, it wasn't as if I had nothing to do.
Nevertheless, I didn't want to send her away by saying I was busy.
"If you're not free, I'll just go home."
"It's okay, don't worry. I'll just keep you waiting a little, is that alright?"
"I'm okay."
"In that case, would it be alright if you waited a bit? I have something I want to ask my teacher too!"
Yes, the lost little lamb who wandered in was Ms. Natalia.
Unlike her usual self, she seemed genuinely troubled, looking rather downcast.
However, when I mentioned I had something to discuss, her expression seemed to brighten just a bit.
I guided her into the living room.
"Please sit here and make yourself comfortable. My servant will be here to keep you company."
"Yes, thank you, Lady Elena."
Leaving Ms. Natalia, who smiled warmly, I hurried to my teacher's mansion.
I had originally kept today's schedule light to avoid showing any fatigue from my first job yesterday.
Still, I needed to consult my teacher about something related to the speaking techniques after yesterday's mishap, so I had to discuss that plan with her.
Upon arriving at the mansion, I caught sight of my teacher, who was just taking a break.
"Teacher, I have something to discuss."
"What is it?"
"A friend of mine came by, looking like she's in a real quandary."
"Hmmm..."
My teacher gazed at me with a serious expression.
Hmmm, I really couldn't prioritize Ms. Natalia over my teacher, who was trying to teach me speaking skills during her busy schedule.
This would mean I'd keep Ms. Natalia waiting for quite some time, but I wondered if that'd be okay.
"Well, it seems like there are no issues with my magical power or my condition, so I think it's okay to do a little stone divination, right?"
"...Huh?"
"Huh?"
"No, um, I was actually planning to learn about conversation skills from you today."
"Isn't that something we could do together over dinner another time? Are you in a hurry?"
"Hurry, no."
"I'm not in a rush, but..."
"Is there a problem?"
"It would mean canceling my plans with you, and I would be breaking a promise."
"Oh dear."
Ignoring my words, the teacher cupped my cheeks with both hands.
"You don't need to worry about that. Of course, if it were a really important plan, it would be a problem."
"But you are busy."
"I can't say I'm not busy, but for my cute disciple, I can make time anytime."
"Thank you very much."
"And you know, practice and experience are important for conversation skills. Since your friend is here, I think it's fine to use them as practice."
Practice.
"If it's a friend, they won't complain, right?"
"Well, that's true."
"So, make sure to practice well."
The teacher said that and playfully squeezed my cheeks.
"Understood. Thank you, teacher."
"Yes. Then let's talk about conversation skills during tomorrow's study time."
"Okay."
"For today, let's have Ellie's homemade cake as a treat."
"Huh? Yes."
"I heard from Rolus that Ellie's homemade cake is the best in the world."
"The best in the world."
So Rolus was saying such things when I wasn't around.
While laughing in my heart, I returned to Ms. Natalia.
"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, Ms. Natalia."
As I said that and stepped into the living room, there was Ms. Natalia with a gentle smile and our maid.
"I was fine since I had someone to talk to. Thank you, Ilda."
Ms. Natalia said.
Ilda is the name of our maid.
"Thank you for listening, Lady Natalia."
It seems that while I was away, they became close.
When I asked what they were talking about, Ms. Natalia chuckled and said, "It's a secret between the two of us."
Hearing that made me curious... I should interrogate Ilda about it later.
"So, Ms. Natalia, do you have something on your mind?"
As I asked this while sitting in the chair facing Ms. Natalia, her previously warm expression darkened.
"Um, well..."
"Oh, I got permission from the teacher, so I can also do stone divination."
"Is that really okay?"
"Yes. However, I'm still an apprentice, so there are points where I might fall short."
"I believe that Lady Elena, even as an apprentice, will nail it perfectly!"
Where does that confidence come from?
Thinking that, I decided to guide her to the workroom.
"This is Lady Elena's workroom..."
"It's my first time working here today."
