Volume 2 Chapter 7 Stone Diviner Apprentice, Doing First Job

Volume 2 Chapter 7 Stone Diviner Apprentice, Doing First Job

A few days had passed since I inherited the magic technique, and it was during dinner at the teacher's mansion.

 "Huh, my first job?"

 "Yes."

I'm still under the teacher's watchful eye as an apprentice, so I wonder if it's really okay for me to take on work.

"There's someone who desperately wants me to do a reading, but our schedules just don't match. So, they said if it's okay with my disciple, then that would be fine."

Someone must be in a really urgent situation to be that desperate.

 Is it really okay?

"If you're a disciple of someone as skilled as the teacher, then your abilities must be solid," they said, and I got a bit carried away...

 "Well..."

In the end, it seems I agreed when I got too carried away.

"After all, Ellie is my pride and joy disciple, right? You learn quickly, and your skills are really solid!"

"I'm still practicing, though. Is it really okay?"

"It's fine! My jewels are saying it's fine too!"

If the teacher, who is a veteran in life, says her jewels are fine, then it must be okay.

 ...But is it really okay?

 I feel anxious.

 "What do you think, Rolus?"

I suddenly ask Rolus, who was eating dinner next to me in silence.

"I believe Elena's skills are solid too. However, I am concerned about how desperate the client seems."

 "I'm worried about that too."

"Are you not concerned that Elena might be rushed or forced into something, or that she could be harmed?"

 Is he really that worried?

I turn to look at Rolus, and there's an incredibly serious expression on his face.

 This kid is genuinely worried.

"I don't think there's any concern of harm. After all, the client is a man of similar age to Elena's father, and he seems to be troubled about his daughter's marriage."

 "His daughter's marriage?"

According to the teacher, that man has several marriage proposals for his daughter.

And unlike my father, it seems he is carefully considering which proposal is best.

 This girl was seriously worried.

"There's a deadline for the marriage talks, yet your daughter is just so indecisive, so it seems she wants to consult with me."

"But it looks like the schedules between the teacher and that person don't match... I see. If that person thinks I'm good enough, then I'll do my best."

"That's great, thank you, Ellie. Good luck!"

And so, tomorrow became my first day of work.

* * *

"Are you really going to be okay?"

Just before I fell asleep, Rolus spoke to me.

"Hmm, well, I think it'll work out somehow."

Ruby from the leather pouch reassured me, saying, "You'll be fine with me here."

Rolus probably couldn't hear that, though.

 "I'm worried."

"Thank you for worrying about me. But since this will be my job from now on, I think it's better to gain experience earlier."

 "Well, that's true, but..."

"I think I could really try hard if Rolus kissed me."

 "Goodnight."

 I was abruptly shut down.

The next morning, although I wasn't fully aware, I must have been nervous since I woke up earlier than planned.

I glanced over and saw Rolus lying there with his eyes closed.

Rolus, who has always woken up before me, was sleeping next to me.

He had such an adorable sleeping face.

And his cute cheeks looked so defenseless.

As the former Mean Villainess, should I play a prank on him?

"Is it too early to get up? Are you nervous?"

 He was awake.

 "...I'll sleep a little longer."

I turned away from Rolus, pressing my back against him and decided to take a nap again.

Then Rolus started to move restlessly.

 "Gweh."

Just when I thought he was moving, he ended up on top of me, and I squeaked a bit, then giggled instinctively.

And just like that, we both ended up asleep.

Thanks to the interrupted nap, I felt a tad sleepy, but perhaps due to my nerves, drowsiness quickly vanished.

"Well then, I'm heading to the Purification Forest once. How about you, Rolus?"

 "I'll go."

At this time, the teacher should definitely be at that place.

Upon entering the crystal cave, as expected, the teacher was there.

 "Good morning, Teacher."

"Good morning, Ellie, Rolus. You both look a bit sleepy, don't you?"

"I woke up a bit too early because I was nervous. Then Rolus kept bugging me..."

 "That's not true!"

In such a friendly atmosphere, I felt my tension somehow ease.

"I created a workspace for you in my mansion so I can help immediately if anything happens, so you'll work there today."

 "Okay."

Saying that, I was led to a room near the teacher's workspace.

The room was dimly lit to create an atmosphere and highlight the glow of gems and magic circles, with a gentle floral scent wafting in to calm the spirit.

A soft and high-quality cloth covered the table in the center, and my chair had a cute cushion placed on it.

"This is a gift from me."

 "A gift?"

"A commemorative gift for your first job."

Saying that, she handed me a larger jewelry box.

The lid and sides were carved with roses and vines, scattered with colorful small gems.

When I opened the lid, there was a soft and pleasant cushion inside.
