Volume 2 Chapter 1 The Prince of the Neighboring Country, Was Given Happiness

Volume 2 Chapter 1 The Prince of the Neighboring Country, Was Given Happiness

This was shortly before I would start attending the academy in the neighboring country under the name Rudger.

I was still young, but I began to have doubts about my father.

I understood that my father was the king and the most important person in this nation, but I wondered if being important meant he could do anything he wanted.

My mother passed away soon after I was born.

I heard she had been weak from the start.

And that mother was taken by father, who went to the neighboring country for an inspection, and forced into marriage.

 It seemed almost coercive.

I only heard this while sneaking around the palace, so the true story remains a mystery.

Yet there were many elements that made me think this story could be true.

 Father is a hard taskmaster.

Truly, he makes me anxious about whether he thinks of people as people.

I bear doubts that perhaps he does not consider anyone other than himself as human.

At such a time, I came to know.

Outside the palace, there are people who are treated like slaves by the nobles.

This is something that is tacitly accepted.

"What was the country where mother was born and raised like?"

The one I asked, still young, was the person who raised me in place of my deceased mother.

She was the only maid that my mother managed to bring from her homeland.

"It was a very beautiful country. The food was delicious."

 "Was mother happy there?"

"Yes. She looked very happy attending the academy."

 "Academy..."

"Yes. That academy accepts both nobles and commoners. Well, money is required though."

 "Commoners too?"

Would it really be fine for nobles and commoners to attend the same academy?

Was there really no one in the neighboring country who was treated like a slave?

A few questions and a hint of hope floated in my heart.

"There's a bread called yakisoba bread, and Sir Lucian's mother liked that bread."

 "yakisoba bread?"

"Yes. She often ate it. However, that yakisoba bread is very popular and sells out quickly."

 "Sold out?"

"Yes. It's very popular, and if you don't hurry to buy it, it'll be gone. Even if I rush after class, it's a close call whether I can get it or not."

I became curious about how delicious it must be.

Furthermore, there were even more intriguing things in the neighboring country.

Among the books of history hidden deep in the palace library, one volume from the neighboring country was mixed in.

It contained spells not mentioned at all in the history books of this country.

The people of this country did not know, there was lost magic.

Perhaps if I went to the neighboring country, I could read many more history books.

I might even be able to study there.

Thinking that, I couldn't help but want to visit the neighboring country.

"I want to attend that academy."

"Huh, Sir Lucian is going to that academy?"

 "Is it impossible?"

"No, well, it's an academy attended by past princes, so it's not impossible... but still, a neighboring country's prince shouldn't be attending, isn't it dangerous?"

"I understand. Then I'll go as a commoner."

"Isn't that dangerous too? I mean, wouldn't that increase the danger?"

"It'll be fine. I'll manage somehow."

 Will I really manage?

Ignoring her words, I proceeded with the preparations to attend the academy in the neighboring country.

Throughout the procedure, she kept saying it was dangerous and that I should reconsider, but in the end, she agreed to come with me.

 As my mother figure.

Thus, I would leave this country and attend the academy in the neighboring country as a commoner.

My father probably won't even notice that I'm gone.

"If anything happens at the academy, quickly report it to me. I'll take care of it."

"I will handle it myself, so don't worry."

 "But I'm not okay."

 Such a worrywart.

Well, since my mother was said to be a vague person, maybe she thinks I'm a vague guy too, but I won't complain.

 "Well then, I'm off."

"Take care, Sir Lucian... no, take care, Rudger."

The entrance ceremony, approached with slightly eased tension from such exchanges, turned out to be extremely boring.

For now, there haven't been any conflicts between nobles and commoners.

I don't know if we'll be able to get along, but it seems there are no nobles acting all high and mighty here.

Well, for now, we're probably just feeling each other out, so perhaps some arrogant ones will show up later.

The individuals to watch out for are Leve Kreuz and Elena Alfano, the two with the highest status in this class.

Depending on their actions, the relationship between nobles and commoners will likely change.

Humans tend to go with the flow in various situations, after all.

So, after days of pondering over such complex matters, this day finally arrived.

Yes, it's the day to have lunch at the academy!

 Yakisoba bread!

I rushed to the cafeteria in joyful anticipation.

It's that yakisoba bread my mother used to say was so popular it always sold out!

Just how much I have been looking forward to this day!

 "No way!"

Even though I dashed out of the classroom faster than anyone, the yakisoba bread was already gone.

I stared blankly at the basket where the yakisoba bread had once been, and as I looked up, a boy who must have bought the last yakisoba bread came into view.

 He's not wearing a uniform.

Not wearing a uniform means he's not a student.

That guy, not even a student of this academy, bought the yakisoba bread I was looking forward to...!
