Volume 2 Chapter 46 The Magical Book of Storage
Half a month had passed since the events in the Forbidden Archive.
One day, merchant Larc visited my office to restock.
"Long time no see, Mr. Zeke."
"It's been a while. How're things with you?"
"Absolutely fantastic! Everything I've bought from your stock has been a hit wherever I go!"
"Good to hear. Thanks to you, we've been getting more visitors from other places too. Appreciate it."
"Oh, please! Compared to all the help I get from you, it's nothing. Sorry it's not much, but here..."
He placed a wooden box on the table.
Inside was a yellow, square-shaped item.
"Is it a snack?"
"Yes. It's a [Castella], a dessert that's all the rage in the East."
"Thanks. Looks delicious. Shall we have some tea with it?"
Just then, it happened.
'Helloooo! I've brought the tea~~~~~~~~!'
Bang!
The door flung open, and a petite girl entered.
"Whoa! What is this fairy...?"
'I'm Lilin, the faithful servant of Sir Zeke!'
In Lilin's hands were a tray and teacups.
With swift movements, she had tea ready for both of us.
"Wow, even fairies are your allies? As always, you never fail to impress, Mr. Zeke."
"I didn't intend for this, but ever since I got back from the Forbidden Archive, this is how things have been."
Incidentally, she seems capable of performing her librarian duties properly, too.
Lilin can use a magic called [Omnipresence].
Basically, it allows her to manifest in separate locations, such as the Demon Lord's Domain and the Forbidden Archive, at the same time.
"Huh, a fairy that can use Omnipresence is pretty rare, I think..."
"Is that so?"
"Yes. I heard only royal fairies are supposed to be capable of that..."
"No way. She lived underground for a long time, you know."
"Oh, I see. That would be odd. If a royal was missing for that long, it would've caused way more issues."
Eating Castella, I chatted with Larc.
'Sir Zeke! Is there anything you need done? Please, just say the word! I'll run errands or do anything you ask!'
Lilin bowed her head before me, leaving me puzzled.
"Why have you suddenly changed your behavior?"
'Oh no, no! From the very moment we met, I've admired you, Your Majesty Zeke, with all my heart!'
"What a smooth talker you are."
Being acknowledged by the Sage Emperor likely altered how she viewed me.
"By the way, Mr. Zeke, I heard you had something to show me?"
"Ah, right. Take a look at this. Lilin, fetch it for me."
'Riiiiiight awayyy!'
In a flash, Lilin vanished and returned.
In her hands, she carried a tray.
Upon it rested 2 identical crystals.
"A Mana Crystal, it seems. Both of them. Were they excavated from a dungeon?"
"One of them, yes. The other is artificial."
"Wha... what...?"
Larc compared the natural and artificial Mana Crystals, his expression turning to shock.
"No way... I can't see a single difference at all..."
Even to Larc, a merchant, the artificial Mana Crystal appeared indistinguishable from the natural one.
"Don't tell me... you made this...?"
"That's right. Remember when I told you I visited the forbidden Archive? There was a report on Mana Crystals there. I made various improvements and finally completed it."
"This... this is incredible! The magic storage capacity is off the charts! If we can produce these without hunting... this is... a revolution!"
'As expected of Sir Zeke! Always revolutionizing the world as a true pioneer of our era!'
It seemed it had gone over rather well.
"But it's still a bit costly to produce, so it'll take more time to perfect."
"No, this is already amazing! Please, let me buy some!"
"Alright then. I'll hand over what I have for now."
With that, I pulled a palm-sized book from my pocket.
As soon as I opened it, the pages flipped on their own, summoning a large number of Mana Crystals.
"Will this do?"
"No, wait!? Mr. Zeke!? Please wait!!!!"
"Huh, what's wrong?"
Trembling, Larc pointed at my hands.
"W-what is that... that book?"
"This? It's a [Storage Magic Tome] I made, referencing books from the Forbidden Archive. It can store and take out items..."
I was confused by Larc's dazed expression.
"What's wrong? Did I do something?"
"No... no, no, no! Mr. Zeke! This is way worse!"
"Which one?"
"That book! That's like the Item Box skill or Space Storage magic, right!?"
"Yeah."
"Yeah, but with that, anyone could easily carry a massive amount of items!"
"Yeah, that's true. So what?"
"Ah, you don't get it, Mr. Zeke! Do you know how incredible that is for a merchant!?!"
"I don't really get it, but if you want it, I'll give it to you. I've got plenty."
"No, no, no! I can't take such a national treasure!"
"It's fine. This is just something I threw together based on a random idea."
Larc collapsed to the ground and hugged his head.
"To make an invention that could change the world's standards in your spare time! Mr. Zeke! You're outrageously amazinggg!"
