Volume 2 Chapter 35 Corrupt Nobility
It had been half a month since the deal with Larc.
One day, a visitor was reported by the fire dragon at the consultation window set at the border of the Demon Lord country.
When I headed to the scene, a fat man was causing a ruckus at the window.
"How long are you going to keep me waiting! Who do you think I am! I am Margon, the Finance Minister of the Empire!"
"I apologize, His Majesty is quite busy, so please wait a moment longer."
"How dare you! Bring him here this instant, you useless fool!"
As Margon attempted to raise his hand at the staff handling the window.
"Please stop."
I grab his hand.
"Sir Zeke!"
"I'll handle this. Step back."
The staff bowed repeatedly and moved away.
"I apologize for the wait."
"Indeed! I come here, and you keep me waiting like this!"
What is wrong with this guy?
Such a rude person to suddenly interrupt.
Moreover, he tried to lay a hand on the staff.
"Rejoice, I bring good news to your beastly nation."
I want to dismiss him right away, but I suppose I should at least listen.
After all, he seems to be an important person from another country.
I lead him to the reception room and listen to Margon's story.
In summary, it was that the Empire would buy the products of the Demon Lord country.
"His Majesty the Emperor is interested in your artificial Mana Crystals."
"I see. I don't mind selling them. Shall we proceed to the business talks?"
"Before that, if you wish to partner with us, you must refrain from any dealings with others henceforth."
"Huh...?"
"Of course. The Empire, being the grand state it is, does not buy goods from a suspicious, weak nation like yours without such a service."
It seems the Demon Lord country is viewed as a minor one in the world.
Naturally, it has only recently begun to interact with others since the change of the Demon Lord.
It is a country without history or tradition, so it is to be expected that they are looked down upon.
"What is the matter? You are gaining an esteemed client in the Empire, a chance for immense profit. Is that not a good thing?"
This guy is completely underestimating us.
"Well, I suppose? We don't have to buy from you lot anyway. Come on, just nod quickly."
With a sigh, I said.
"I'm declining. Go home."
"What!? What do you mean!?"
Margon raised his voice.
"Are you mad!? You could trade with the Empire!? It's an honor!"
"I don't care about honor. You mocked our country, calling us beasts. You even tried to raise your hand against my receptionist, a citizen of my country. I won't ally with such a rude person. Go home."
Ugh, Margon choked on his words.
"W-What an idiot! To throw away this big chance because of personal feelings! The citizens must feel sorry to have such a king!"
"My job is to protect the citizens. If I were to ally with a country that doesn't even know basic manners like you, the citizens would eventually suffer."
"You insulted the Empire, you bastard! Hey, come in!"
A group of imperial soldiers entered.
It seems they came as Margon's bodyguards.
"Kill those idiots who insulted the Empire! Not just him, but all the citizens!"
"I won't let you do that."
The moment I glared at them, thud...!
An imperial corpse at the scene collapsed, foaming at the mouth.
I approached Margon and slapped his cheek.
"Hah!? Y-You! What did you just do!?"
"I'm not doing anything. He just fainted and fainted without his permission"
"I-It's hard to believe... the strong soldier of the Empire faints just by being glared at by a brat like this! Was Demon Lord now an opportunistic and incompetent?"
I see, will there be some corpse interpreted that way?
"It's fine if you're making fun of me for being an underdog. I don't like violence. But I won't merciless if you're making fun of the people in my country. Next, do you know?"
Margon sways on the spot and starts shaking.
"Oh, oh, oh! You raised your hand to the imperial nobles! You! Remember this!"
"If you can do it, try it"
"Eep!"
Margon escapes on his own, leaving behind his subordinates.
