Volume 2 Chapter 10 Castle of Demons, Zombie Legion
As the evening set in, we arrived at the castle where Sakura had resided.
The castle had a unique structure, resembling a stack of 5 plates, and was said to be the stronghold of the Oni clan's leader.
"How gruesome..."
The area around the castle was littered with countless corpses.
The bodies had decayed, and crows were pecking at them.
"These are the fallen warriors who fought against the demons. We want to give them a proper burial, but... when night falls, the demon army attacks, so..."
Princess Sakura of the Oni clan looked down sadly.
"We'll give them a proper funeral later, okay?"
"Yes, of course!"
We headed towards the top floor of the castle, where Sakura's brother was said to be.
"Brother, I'm back!"
"Sakura! You made it back safely!"
The current leader of the Oni clan, Sakura's brother, embraced his sister warmly.
I introduced myself briefly and explained that I had come as reinforcements.
"Demon Lord, we are truly grateful for your efforts in coming all this way."
"Don't mention it. We all help each other in times of need."
"Oh... What a kind and humble person the current Demon Lord is..."
"Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration. Now, what's the situation here?"
Sakura's brother began to explain the current state of affairs.
The traitorous vassals had joined forces with the demons and were attacking with a massive army.
The remaining Oni clan members had taken refuge in the castle, engaging in a siege battle.
Apparently, the demons were unable to function during the day.
However, they were being overwhelmed by the sheer number of enemies, leading to a dire situation.
"I see. First, let's start with treating the wounded."
I followed Sakura's brother to where the injured Oni clan members were.
The wounded Oni warriors lay on their futons, writhing in pain.
I collected blood samples for analysis.
"This is... a type of poison I've never seen before."
"The demons' weapons are cursed with a powerful poison called 'cursed poison.' Even a minor scratch can lead to..."
I analyzed the blood sample with my 'Eye of God' ability.
"Alright, I'll treat them now."
"T-Treatment? But Demon Lord, the cursed poison of the demons cannot be cured by antidotes or healing magic!"
I open my arms and activate [Hand of God].
The skill heals their wounds, regrow the missing parts, and lift the curse.
"No way, it's not possible!"
"I'm healed!"
"My arm is back! My body can move! This is amazing! I'm so relieved!"
Uwooo...
The onis cheered.
"What... How is it possible to remove the curse and antidote the poison? Is Demon Lord a divine being...?"
"I'm just a human, nothing special."
At that moment,
"It's night! The [corpses] are rising!"
I, along with Sakura, climbed to the top floor.
Looking outside, we saw numerous corpses starting to move.
"This is also the curse of the demon. They are zombies, and even after death, they continue to move, turning the living into zombies..."
"...This is horrible."
For the onis, the enemies were once their comrades.
Their fighting spirit was dampened, and in their moment of weakness, they were killed, only to become new zombies.
"Honestly... We're at a dead end. We can only burn them with fire..."
"No, it's okay. As long as there's a body, resurrection is possible."
"Resurrection...? No, that's a bit too much..."
I reached out towards the castle town.
I activated the Hand of God at maximum output.
A sacred light enveloped the surroundings.
The zombies stopped.
The decaying flesh returned to normal, the curse was lifted, and the souls returned to their original bodies.
"What, this is incredible! Everyone is back to normal!"
The onis, who had been turned into zombies, were overcome with emotion.
"Thank you, Demon Lord! Truly, truly thank you!"
I was glad that this sad situation had come to an end...
"But the zombie curse, it's so cruel. We have to defeat the demon who cast the curse. Which one is it?
"I don't know. A few months ago, a demon army appeared, claiming to be the [King]. Ah, now that I think about it, he kept muttering about [killing Zeke]... Do you know him?"
