Volume 1 Chapter 39 The King is Made to Bow to the Mercenary Group
The frost dragon has taken over the royal castle.
A few hours later.
Night fell, and the outside temperature dropped further.
A sudden blizzard, accompanied by the appearance of a dragon.
It's strange for the citizens of the capital to remain calm under these circumstances.
"King! What are you doing? Hurry up and deal with the dragon!"
Outside the castle walls, countless citizens of the capital were crowding in.
"If you're going to tell us not to leave the capital, at least do something about the dragon!"
"Hire adventurers or do something to defeat it! Hurry up, you useless king!"
Right now, outside the capital, magic beasts meant for defense are running rampant and not listening.
If the citizens step outside and get injured by the magic beasts, the blame will fall on them even more.
"The shops are buried in snow! What are you going to do about it?"
Due to the cold damage, the capital's town and its people have already suffered a major blow.
Naturally, the dissatisfaction and anger are directed at the king, the leader of the country.
Amidst this, the king was in the knight's barracks within the castle walls.
The castle is frozen over and occupied by an frost dragon, so they have evacuated.
"Damn! Stupid people! They don't even know how I feel!"
He cannot provide aid to other countries or hire adventurers.
With all the knights and soldiers exhausted, who could possibly slay the frost dragon?
"Your Majesty! I've brought some help!"
The Prime Minister came into the office with a smile on his face.
"Wow! Good job!"
The men who came in were men of bad character.
They were all well built and had sharp eyes... They were indeed veteran warriors.
"They are the mercenary group [Hungry Black Wolves]! They have experience in slaying ancient dragons, and are combat experts!"
The Hungry Black Wolves are former adventurers or former thieves, so-called thugs.
The king want to frown at the lack of dignity in this situation, but he's grasping at straws right now.
"Oh! Good! Quickly defeat that dragon, you guys!"
"Haa...Hey King...What's with that attitude?"
Among the thugs, a man who looks particularly bad comes forward.
"I am the leader of the Hungry Black Wolves [Character Mob]. Hey, King, is that how you ask for something from someone? At least try bowing!"
"Wha, what did you say!? Why must a king bow to you lowly scum!?"
Hmph, the Character Mob scoffs with a derisive snort.
"Oh, really? Then I won't hunt it down. Let's go, guys!"
The Hungry Black Wolves start to leave the room in a line.
"W-wait!"
The king rushes to the Character Mob and grabs his shoulder.
"P-please... defeat them..."
"Huh? Didn't you hear, old man? Bow down!"
The king's face turns bright red with humiliation as he clenches his fists.
"...Your Majesty, please endure... they are the only ones who can defeat them..."
"...I know that! Don't keep repeating it!"
Right now, the king's inner scale teetered heavily.
Should he abandon his pride and cling to the Hungry Black Wolves here?
...or should he bow his head to Zeke and ask him to return?
Despite everything, Zeke was strong, and above all, he had the special skill to calm magic beasts.
But bringing back Zeke, whom he had driven out, was out of the question.
"...please"
The king knelt down on the spot and bowed deeply.
"Pfft...! Gyaaaaahahaha! Hey, did you see that?! The country's bigwigs are bowing down to us! Give us that!"
The thugs make fun of him and insult him.
It was humiliating.
But even so, he endured the shame and bowed his head in order to break out of this situation.
"I have no choice but to accept it"
The Hungry Black Wolves take their weapons and leave the barracks.
"Hey guys, you're gonna get a lot of rewards, okay?"
In the midst of a raging snowstorm, the mercenaries approach the castle.
'What, what are you guys doing?! Please stop! I'm pregnant! Get a doctor!'
But the words of the frost dragon cannot reach humans.
"Well, it's been a while since I last defeated a dragon! You bastards! Let's hurt it to our heart's content, then kill it!"
They grabbed their weapons — a chained iron ball, a bow and arrow, and a staff — ready for battle.
"Let's go hunting! Dieeeee!"
They launched a simultaneous attack on the frost dragon... and then it happened.
Clang...!
Their attacks were blocked by barrier magic.
"Stop!"
In front of the frost dragon stood a wyvern.
Riding on its back was beast veterinarian Zeke.
