Volume 2 Chapter 20 Inform (Report, Inform, Consult)
"Okay, but seriously—why are you running around as a Seeker under your real name, 'Yuki Takeru'?"
"Huh? No, no, no, it's not like I planned it! Sakurako-chan was all, 'What's going on with Yuki Takeru's activities?' and I thought, 'Oh, right. I did become a Seeker, but I haven't done jack yet.'"
"I see. But that still doesn't explain why you're trying to cash in a Middle Floors Boss magic stone under that name! Are you trying to speedrun getting exposed?"
"N-no, no, no, hear me out! The Upper Floors Boss, the Goblin Knight, is worth 15,000 yen! And the Red Orc from the Middle Floors? It should be double that, right?! Of course I'm cashing it in!"
"Enough... enough, enough. You're making my head hurt."
"But you don't get it! Unlike you, Sakurako-chan, I have no money! I've been running around as Omega, and guess what? I haven't gotten a single drop item or cashed anything in! I'm just bleeding money!"
"W-wait... you're that broke!?"
I lunged toward Sakurako-chan, desperation in my eyes.
This isn't a joke—I'm actually broke!
"I-I get it, I get it, I get it! Just... back up a little!"
Flustered, Sakurako-chan shoved me away, her face going red.
"Huff, huff... okay! Here's the deal: I'll handle cashing in your magic stones and drop items directly. That way, no one—Sagawa, Rie-tan, the receptionists—gets suspicious. Happy now?"
"Really?! Oh, thank you, Sakurako-chan! You're the best!"
"But! If you're out adventuring as Yuki Takeru, you must cash in items at the guild with your clan members. No solo cash-ins, got it?"
"Roger that!"
I immediately handed over the magic stones and items I had on me.
"Hmm... you actually have a decent haul here. Wait, this big one—this wouldn't be from the 'Talking Monster Baron,' would it?"
"Oh, yeah. Probably."
"Hmm..."
"So, what do you think it's worth?"
"Well... I'm not an appraiser, but just eyeballing it... I'd say around 3 million yen total?"
"Three million?!"
My brain short-circuited for a second.
"Of course. Magic stones from 'Talking Monsters' are rare. Just this one alone is worth 2 million."
"Two... million...?"
Wait.
Wait, wait, wait.
Talking monsters = easy money?
A cash cow?!
I turned to Sakurako-chan with what I thought was an innocent smile.
"Uh. What's with that creepy face?"
Harsh.
"So, uh... where do these 'Talking Monsters' usually spawn?"
"Talking Monsters? Nobody really knows. They usually appear above floor 70 in dungeons with over 100 floors..."
"Seventy..."
Right now, in Omega, I've cleared up to floor 49.
And that's where I just casually took down a 'Talking Monster'—one that's supposedly from way deeper in the dungeon.
And it wasn't even that hard.
Which means...
"Alright! Time to hunt more 'Talking Monsters'—I'M GONNA BE RICH!!!"
"WAIT, STOP RIGHT THERE!!!"
Just as I was about to make a dramatic exit, Sakurako-chan full-body tackled me.
"LET ME GO! I'M GONNA FARM TALKING MONSTERS LIKE A GACHA WHALE WITH MOM'S CREDIT CARD!"
"Calm down! And it's 'Talking Monster' singular! Look, I get that you want to make bank, but there are more important things to discuss! So sit down and chill!"
"But... but... two million... TWO MILLION YEN, SAKURAKO-CHAN! I need to indulge a little!"
"And besides! You don't even know which dungeon they spawn in, do you?"
"Huh? It was in Shinjuku Gyoen before, so—"
"No, genius. 'Talking Monsters' don't usually show up in Shinjuku Gyoen. That was a one-time thing."
"Huh?! Seriously?!"
"Yeah. We don't know much about them, but if you really want to hunt them, wouldn't it make sense to go somewhere they actually appear more often?"
"Uh..."
"If you cooperate with me now, I can get that information for you. So? What's it gonna be?"
Gnnnnnn...
Damn it, she's got me.
"This is a good deal for you, too. Now sit down already!"
Even though I knew I was getting played by this little gremlin, I still really wanted that information. With a deep sigh, I sat down on the couch.
"By the way," Sakurako-chan added, her voice all smug, "cooperating with me means you'll be helping level up the 'Valkyries' too."
"Huh? Ohhh, right."
That's right—Ayumi-san and I, along with the 'Valkyries,' are basically Sakurako-chan's personal hit squad now.
"Wait, but... wasn't Omega supposed to be laying low because of all the attention we were getting?"
