Chapter 81 Greetings And Their Results

Despite having a rocky start with many challenges ahead, Euphemia's greeting tour went surprisingly smoothly once it began.

The first place we headed to was the home of Mr. Lygar, the village of the Red Tiger clan.

There were many intimidating people who looked like tough fighters, but once we interacted with them, they all turned out to be kind-hearted.

They mentioned that it was rare to see children who weren't scared of us.

Well, to be honest, I was actually a bit scary, you know?

For some reason, we must have looked that way to them.

However, I must say that I wished they hadn't offered alcohol to a child around the age of ten.

The person who made the offer was literally sent flying into the sky by Mr. Lygar, and someone who drunkenly came to me saying "be my daughter~" was turned into a charcoal briquette by Monica.

 I wonder if they're okay?

Next, we headed to the hometown of Ms. Jamielee, which is the village of the White Ape clan.

They seem to be a long-lived race, and there were many elderly people, but they treated me like a cherished granddaughter with great affection.

It seems they were happy that I listened to the long stories of the grandparents without showing any sign of dislike.

A young person from the White Ape clan even thanked me, saying it was the first time they had seen such a cheerful parent.

However, it was a bit overwhelming that everyone came to give me a mountain of sweets as souvenirs.

I can't carry or eat this much.

Well, it might be just right as souvenirs for the children waiting at the Emerald Cat Hospital.

We also visited several beastman villages, including the Gray Bear clan and the Silver Bird clan.

At first, some of them were distrustful of us Ortria people, but Thea took the initiative to persuade them, and Mr. Seius talked to them, and I think we were able to open up to each other.

After all, whenever we were leaving any village, everyone would see us off and tell us to come back again.

However, the children would cry and ask, "Are you really going?" and the adults would suggest, "Why don't you marry someone from the village and move here permanently?" and it was hard to leave every time.

By the way, Monica burned all the people who proposed marriage to me or asked me to get engaged.

 Hey, Monica?

 Use magic sparingly?

And so, after finishing a month-long journey, I returned to the Emerald Cat hospital──I'm finally back.

 "Y-yeah... phew..."

"Ms. Yumie, please hang in there. Just a little longer."

 "Yumie... you can do it...!"

 "Yumie, don't give up!"

 "Fight on!"

Receiving cheers from Monica, Thea, and the children, I moved forward step by step.

I pushed my trembling right leg forward, grounding my body as I moved──

 "...You did well, young lady."

 "Yes..."

Supported by Lisa, I successfully walked the ten-meter distance.

 Without crutches or a wheelchair.

With my legs, which were once said to be useless for life.

"We did it! Congratulations, Ms. Yumie!"

 "Yumie, congratulations...!"

 "Hooray!"

 "Yumie walked!"

The cheers of everyone reached my ears, and I felt the realization that I've come this far rising within me.

At the same time, tears I couldn't hold back began to spill from my eyes.

"Ms. Yumie, are you okay? Is there any pain?"

"No, it's not that... I mean, I was happy..."

Everyone told me many times that they would still love me even if my body didn't get better.

 I've never doubted that.

But, as expected... the situation of not being able to walk on my own 2 feet and relying on everyone's help had been hanging over my heart like a shadow for a long time, more than I thought.

"It's all thanks to everyone's support...Thank you so much...!"

"There's no need to worry. My role is to serve you, young lady, and I'm happy."

"Yes, if I can help Ms. Yumie, then this is no big deal"

 "Me too!"

Lisa, Monica, and Thea all say the same thing.

I'm so happy to be surrounded by such good people.

Thinking like that, I bow my head to the important people I must not forget.

"Doctor Seius... Thank you so much. This is all thanks to you, doctor."

"Ah, don't mention it. I merely provided a catalyst with this ability; it was definitely your own efforts that led you to recover this much."

"Even so, I can't thank you enough, teacher."

As I repeatedly bowed my head in gratitude to the modest doctor──who I've started calling that just a little while ago──Monica and the children began to express their thanks for my recovery as well.

It seems that Doctor Seius, having rarely experienced being thanked by so many people, blushed and smiled, saying, "Oh, stop it."

"Moreover, you've only just regained the ability to walk; you're not fully healed yet. You're going to become a knight, right?"

 "Ah... yes!"

 My dream.

To become a knight who can protect my family and loved ones.

It seems Doctor Seius knew about that too.

He implied that he would continue treating me until I was able to aim for knighthood again, and I slowly made my way over to Doctor Seius, unsteady on my feet.

 "Thank you very much, Doctor...!!"

As I hugged him tightly, he affectionately patted me with a cheerful smile, like a kindly old man.

Surrounded by a warm atmosphere, Doctor Seius opened his mouth and said, "Ah, yes."

"Today, it's not just about Yumie; I have good news for Thea as well."

 "Me...?"

"Ah. The prototype prosthetic arm I asked Ortria to make for you has arrived."

 "...!"

It has been said for a long time that Thea's prosthetic arm was made by Ortria.

And it seems it has finally arrived.

Thea held her breath at the succession of good news.

"Of course, it's not like you can use it right away after you put it on, and you'll need some rehabilitation. It seems to be a pretty good product, so you can look forward to it."

"You did it, Thea! Let's work hard on your rehabilitation together!"

"Yeah... I'll do my best with Yumie...!"

Right now, I can only move my right hand slowly, and Thea will have a hard time with her rehabilitation to use her prosthetic arm.

But someday, we will be able to hold each other tightly in our arms.

With that hope in our hearts, Thea and I embraced each other with all our might, pouring in as much joy and emotion as we could.
