Volume 3 Chapter 26 Crush
"Being treated like a sore spot?"
That uneasy line made my eyebrows furrow naturally.
What on earth happened in the guild to be treated like a sore spot?
Maybe sensing my doubt, Suisen explained seriously.
"Look, as you can see, I'm a 'handsome guy,' right?"
"..."
I held back and said nothing.
I listened to Suisen's words without interrupting.
"Yeah, I'm the handsome boy everyone envies. Because of that, there are some drawbacks. Especially, troubles between men and women never seem to end."
"Troubles?"
"To put it simply, every party I join always 'falls apart'."
Party collapse.
I thought again that was an uneasy line.
Honestly, I was scared to ask, but I steeled myself and cautiously inquired.
"So, uh, how exactly does it fall apart due to troubles between men and women?"
"Well, let's say there's a party with close male and female members. Naturally, it wouldn't be surprising if someone ended up in a romantic relationship. At least, you can imagine some romantic feelings would arise. Now, what do you think would happen if super beautiful man like me joined?"
"Um..."
As I hesitated whether to make a comment about the term super beautiful man, Suisen nodded knowingly even though I hadn't answered.
"Right, all the female adventurers fall for me, and the male adventurers get jealous."
"Wait..."
"Because of that, the interpersonal relationships in the party get messed up, and ultimately, it collapses. That's the flow of things."
Suisen casually said something amazing.
It was hard to believe, but seeing his sad expression, it must be true.
If he joined a party, all the female adventurers would fall for him, huh? That's a skill most male adventurers would probably envy.
"I'm such a sinful man. Even though I have no intention of it, my good looks have captivated countless female adventurers, and the invitations to join parties just keep coming. But once I actually join a party, I often face harsh punishment from the male adventurers and get kicked out."
"Ugh..."
"Being too beautiful can be a double-edged sword. Sometimes, I even earn resentment from female adventurers I've turned down, and now I'm treated like a sore thumb in the guild with various names."
Suisen continues, clutching his chest as if in pain.
"I've been called things like 'a womanizer who preys on female adventurers' and 'a shameless pick-up artist.' I've even been labeled 'party destroyer'... and some have gone so far as to call me 'Suisen the womanizer'."
"That's a terrible name."
Suisen the womanizer...
I can't help but feel sorry for him.
Someone must really hold a grudge against him.
Wait, was Rose talking about Suisen when she mentioned 'a womanizer who preys on female adventurers'?
It seems he doesn't actually have any bad intentions, but he unintentionally attracts the attention of female adventurers in the party, causing rifts in relationships.
"Because I've caused problems in every party I've joined, I've become someone no one wants to deal with. Not only am I not invited to parties, but when I try to talk to people, they just avoid me. In the end, even the receptionists started to steer clear of me..."
"So that's what it means to be treated like a sore thumb."
His scandalous reputation has spread throughout the guild, and it seems Suisen is now seen as a nuisance.
It's really sad that just because of his looks, he gets treated this way.
...Though, I guess his personality and way of speaking might be part of the problem too.
"But Ms. Alium was different."
Suisen squinted as if gazing into the distant horizon, letting out a somewhat shy voice.
"She reached out to me when I was alone. She spoke to me gently. Even though she worried that being with me might give her a bad impression, she said, 'Don't worry about what others think,' and helped me with tasks I could do alone."
Suisen continued to look at me with a straightforward gaze that made me forget her self-loving nature.
"I wasn't just captivated by Ms. Alium's appearance. There's no doubt she's beautiful, but her true beauty lies within her."
"..."
"That's why I fell for Ms. Alium. For the first time in my life, I've liked someone. I want to support Ms. Alium for the rest of my life, just as she has saved me."
After pouring out his feelings, Suisen let out a long breath.
He seemed a bit nervous, taking a moment to collect his thoughts before speaking to me again.
"This is all of me. If you can't accept this, I'll gracefully give up on your cooperation. I'll try to surpass Ms. Alium on my own and confess my feelings."
As a Nurturer, I believe it's essential to carefully assess those who request my help.
If I were to assist someone with ill intentions, it could empower a villain.
By that standard, the person who sought my cooperation this time, Suisen Pride, is...
"...I'll take it on."
"Eh?"
"Honestly, it would be better for Suisen to surpass Ms. Alium on his own, but it's probably quite difficult to become stronger than her. So, as a Nurturer, I'll accept Suisen's request."
"...Roezé."
From what I heard, I judged that Suisen is a trustworthy person.
I can't say I fully trust him yet, and there's still a chance he could be lying.
However, seeing the expression on Suisen's face when he talked about Ms. Alium, I had a gut feeling that it was his genuine heart.
When I confirmed my acceptance of the request, Suisen smiled with relief.
"However, I can only assist in growth; I can't push someone beyond their potential limits. I can't give them any special powers or awaken new talents. If Suisen's talent itself isn't enough, then you won't be able to become stronger than Ms. Alium in the first place, so keep that in mind."
"What? Don't worry about that. Who do you think I am? I'm Suisen Pride, feared not just for my beauty but also for my talent as an adventurer. There's no way a super beautiful man like me would have no talent at all!"
Suisen seemed to regain his energy, letting out a loud laugh filled with his usual overconfidence.
