Volume 3 Chapter 10 Artifact Craftman

Volume 3 Chapter 10 Artifact Craftman

"What exactly is a 'Artifact Craftsman'...?"

"I-I've never heard of that before."

Rose and Cosmos exchanged puzzled glances after checking Fran's job class.

It was clear they'd never encountered such a class before, and they both stared curiously at Fran's Divine Revelation.

Perhaps it was the way they were peering at my internal information, but Fran blushed and lowered his head, fiddling with his flaxen bangs.

"I-I don't really understand my job class either. I've never seen anyone with a similar one, and I have no idea what the skill does."

Fran picked up the weapon's Divine Revelation that I had written and kept gazing at it.

"But if my job class is related to this, then it must be because of the effect of the 'skill,' right?"

"That's right. The 'Divine Hammer' skill Fran possesses as a 'Artifact Craftman' has granted the weapon its Divine Revelation."

As I explained again, Fran's eyes widened, fixated on the sword.

Nearby, Cosmos tilted her head and asked.

"Why didn't you notice this yourself until now? It's your job class, so you should have been aware of it, right?"

"I-I'm sorry. But honestly, no one seems to know about my power, and even when I try to figure it out myself, I just can't make sense of it..."

"Hmm, what does it say about the skill?"

Prompted by her question, Fran opened his hand again and chanted.

 "[Show Skill]."

A second piece of paper appeared, which he handed to Cosmos.

I had already confirmed it with the Divine Eye skill, but I leaned in alongside Rose to take another look.

 'Divine Hammer - Level 3**

 - Transforms crafted weapons into divine tools.

 - Ability manifests based on materials used.

Seeing the details, Cosmos couldn't help but chuckle in disbelief.

"Honestly, this doesn't make any sense at all. If only I had an ability like Roezé's to investigate weapons with Divine Revelation, it'd be a different story. But with just this, there's no way to understand my own power."

"I agree. If Fran had a skill like Divine Eye, she would have figured it out right away. But trying to make sense of everything with just this information is definitely too difficult."

"So, based on what we're seeing, does 'Divine Hammer' mean 'imbuing a weapon with Divine Revelation'?"

"Probably. It's like a 'weapon' that's been touched by the 'gods' and carries Divine Revelation, which makes it understandable to call it a 'divine artifact,' right? It's nice of the gods to grant Fran a job class capable of creating such things, especially since she aims to be a top-tier Blacksmith."

"Is that really kind? If the job class is about imbuing weapons with Divine Revelation, shouldn't they also give her the power to verify it? It feels a bit inconsiderate... or maybe just incomplete..."

"Hey, don't say such blasphemous things..."

You might not know what kind of punishment could come down for that.

 Besides, even gods aren't all-powerful.

I've heard that the god who grants job classes is a great being who watches over the world from the heavens, but maybe even they have a few clumsy moments.

 I mean, in reality...

"Besides, I didn't have the 'Divine Eye' ability at first either."

"Wait, really? Even though you have the 'Nurturer' job class?"

"When I was just starting out, the only skill I had was 'Support.' The 'Divine Eye' skill manifested as I leveled up, so maybe Fran will unlock a suitable ability as he levels up, too."

Human job classes aren't fully developed from the start.

Just like how Rose went from Apprentice Warrior to Valkyrie... or how Cosmos transformed from a Stardust Magician who could only throw stones into an extraordinary magician capable of launching massive meteors...

Fran seemed to understand that by leveling up his job class, he would definitely experience some kind of change.

He spoke with a hint of regret.

"I've thought about trying to level up my job class too. Since it seemed related to blacksmithing, I figured leveling it up might lead to some changes. But I'm scared of monsters..."

 "Scared?"

"My dad was attacked by a monster while gathering materials for blacksmithing in the forest. Plus, there's no guarantee that leveling up my job class would actually lead to any changes, so I thought it might be better not to force myself to hunt monsters."

Well, if Fran were aiming to be an adventurer, that would be one thing, but his goal is to become a blacksmith.

Even though he knows the Artisan job class could be useful for a blacksmith, he probably wouldn't want to take unnecessary risks to level it up.

Especially since he's not good with monsters, it makes sense that Fran hasn't tried to hunt them.

He'd likely think it's more practical to forge as many swords as possible instead.

"Um, maybe it would've been better to level up my job class by hunting monsters?"

"Honestly, that's a bit unclear. Just because you level up your job class doesn't mean you'll definitely gain the power you want. I think it's more effective to focus on honing your blacksmithing skills instead."

 "...I see."

Fran placed his hand on his chest, looking relieved.

I clapped my hands to signal a change in topic.

"Anyway, now we understand Fran's talent. So, let's talk about what comes next..."

I started discussing our plans for the auction.

"First, we should find a workshop for weapon crafting. It's possible to forge this sword and put it up for auction, but I'd prefer to create something even better to showcase."

This sword is just a backup plan in case we can't find a workshop that will lend us their equipment.

"Maybe if you train this enough, it could turn out to be quite a masterpiece," I thought instinctively. But I know Brue will definitely bring some serious craftsmanship to the table. To increase his chances of winning, he needs to be particular about the weapons he showcase. It might be better to rent a workshop somewhere and create new weapons with fresh materials.

"By the way, do you know of any good workshops? Maybe someone Fran knows?"

"Um, no, sorry. I hardly know any blacksmiths, so I don't have anyone in mind."

"Well, if there was a place like that, you would have already left Brue's workshop and worked there instead."

I pictured someone in my mind and continued.

"Okay, about the workshop, I know someone who might be able to help, so let's go ask them. Honestly, I'm not sure if they'll lend us their equipment, but it doesn't seem like we have any other options."

 "Uh, okay."

Next, I brought up the next issue.

"So, about gathering materials, I want to collect the best ones possible. The 'Divine Hammer' skill has an effect that says, 'Ability changes based on materials used,' so I think higher quality materials will awaken more effective abilities. I was thinking of asking Rose and Cosmos to help with that."

"Right, I heard you can get good minerals from that vicious monster, right? Should we help with defeating that monster?"

"Exactly. Honestly, I'm a bit anxious about doing it alone, so I'd really appreciate your help."

"Well, in the end, we'll be getting our weapons made too, so I guess we can cooperate with that."

We can gather minerals from the monster that can be used for weapon crafting.

It seems we can create something stronger than regular ores, so let's go ahead and make our weapons with that.

It's uncertain what kind of abilities will awaken in the divine weapon due to the skill, but that's why we shouldn't compromise on this.

"Well, finally, the most important thing: how to forge the weapons we've created. I was thinking of having Rose take care of that."

 "Huh, me?"

Rose, unexpectedly called upon, exclaimed in surprise.
