Volume 19 Chapter 8 First Aid
'Wow, the Anti-Magic Field spell is amazing! All the spells from the enemy magician were canceled out!'
Glee said excitedly.
Al moved his attention to the window showing the 'Floating Eye,' just in time to see Prince Theodore and his knights reach the men on a small rocky hill about 70 meters away.
Al hadn't been watching that side, but from Glee's story, it seemed that the enemy magician had cast many spells at the approaching Prince Theodore, but they were all quickly canceled.
There were 4 men on the rocky hill, and the 3 who were not aiming at Al and his friends had drawn their swords and were trying to attack Prince Theodore while protecting the magician.
These 3 were probably not magicians, but guards.
But Prince Theodore didn't care about that; he swung his sword left and right and charged right at the magician, beheading him with his strong attack.
Following Prince Theodore, the knights charged and took down the remaining 3 men.
"Wow... that's scary."
Al couldn't help but mutter, rubbing his neck.
If he faced a situation like that, he wouldn't be able to do anything.
The charge by the knight using the Anti-Magic Field spell was overwhelming.
The only way he can think of to deal with it is to set a trap or something like that.
Is this the end of the attack?
Al raises the height of his 'Floating Eye' even further.
There may be people still hiding in the rugged terrain, but for now, no one seems to be moving.
"Uuuuuu" "Ouch, ouch, ouch"
When the excitement of the battle subsided, he noticed the sounds of groans of pain filling the air.
"Are you okay? Take care..."
Al hurriedly began administering first aid to anyone he could see.
* * *
"Alfred, Prince Theodore is calling you. He says to leave the others and come back to the carriage."
Covered in blood and sand, while continuing to help, Gustave came to call after a while.
Of course, he was keeping an eye out with the 'Floating Eye' spell and detection spells, but maybe it seemed like he was ignoring his guard duties by doing other things.
"The prince? But sorry, just wait a little bit."
Al said that and finished helping the second corps's squire with 'Hemostasis.'
Then, he stood up after leaving the later care to the squire beside him.
"Alfred, thank you. For helping with the first aid."
Oh, Gustave was part of the second corps.
Of course, most of them were probably friends.
There must have been some he was friendly with.
He would surely want to rush over right now.
He might feel upset that he couldn't move freely because he was supposed to guard Serena.
"No, if you see someone bleeding and groaning in front of you, you have to help them. It's not like I was slacking off on my guard duties. I was properly keeping an eye on the surroundings with magic. Also, many people knew that Big Brother Gustave was guarding Lady Serena, and asked me if she was okay. The Second Corps was also guarding Lady Serena, so broadly speaking. Also, from what I know, a squire from the Second Corps, a man with black hair and a sturdy build, and a woman with red hair and about the same height as me, died. The others will probably suffer from aftereffects, but I think they managed to survive. I haven't been able to get to the supply corps yet."
"I see..."
Al talked about various things, and Gustave, who had a gloomy expression, started to smile a little.
"Should I carry it?"
He asked, glancing at the scene ahead.
They walked to the corpse of the magician Al'd killed with a spell. A gaping hole had torn through the center of his body, and blood spread across the ground in a crimson sea.
"Oh, that's pretty gruesome. This guy shot a 'Magic Tornado', remember?"
"Yeah, that's right"
'Carrier'
Al took out a shining white disk and placed the body on it.
"For now, big brother. Let's go back."
Al urged Gustave, who was still walking slowly, to return to the carriage where the princes were.
* * *
"Gustave Channing has returned."
"Alfred Channing has returned."
"Good work. Gustave, you must go back to guarding Lady Serena. I know you might be worried about your team, but in this situation, you must do your job."
The one giving the order next to Prince Theodore was an older man named Vincent, who was a knight in the kingdom and helped Prince Theodore.
Al had seen him a few times at meetings held in Prince Theodore's tent.
He was probably a viscount with a pretty important title, like the deputy chief of the Sylvester kingdom's knight bureau.
"Yes, sir."
Gustave answered and returned to Serena's carriage.
Al knelt down, waiting for words, while still having the 'Carrier' that held the enemy magician's body behind him.
"Alfred, good job. You are a knight Gustave's squire from the Margrave Rain Knight Order, right? Who did you learn magic from?"
Viscount Vincent asked.
"Yes. That is correct. I learned magic from my grandfather when I was young, and after he died, I taught myself. Recently, I have made friends with Mr. Eric, who works with Viscount Lester of city Lester, and Lord Zora from Baron Sennett's family."
"I see... Tell me what you saw."
What he saw... Al thought this was a good chance.
As far as Al could see, there are some exceptions like Prince Theodore's Anti-Magic Field spell, but generally, in battles using spells, the Marquis Prentis family could have things their way.
If this continued, Al wouldn't know when he would get caught up in it too.
Al just wanted to quickly go explore the ancient ruins in peace.
It might show a little of his hand, but by explaining the situation a bit, it might change the minds of the Sylvester kingdom's magicians.
"Yes. Now, let me talk about this discovery. This time, for Lady Serena's safety, I used the spell 'Detect Magic' to make its range 65 meters. Thanks to this, I quickly noticed someone coming from behind us. I warned about the approach and also thought about the chance of a trap, so I used another option to send up a 'Floating Eye' to see better. I think it was almost at the same time that the magician from behind fired the 'Magic Tornado' and I noticed a group of about four people peering at me from the top of the rocky mountain on the west side..."
Prince Theodore and Viscount Vincent listened to Al's report while giving each other looks and nods.
How much can they trust him to take this warning seriously?
Al felt a bit nervous as he finished telling about how the enemy magician quickly shot a 'Magic Missile,' which he blocked using a 'Quick Shield.' He also talked about using the 'Piercing Spear' spell on that magician and another one far away. He managed to defeat one magician, but the other one used a 'Shield' spell and flew away.
It is hard to explain that this other magician is called Lord Veil, so he will not say anything about that.
"Got it. What is that 'option' you mentioned?"
Viscount Vincent asked Al calmly while taking many notes.
"Yes, this is probably something that Mr. Eric reported to the magician guild last year, so I'd recommend you check there for more details, but it's a way to extend or limit the effects of spells."
"Hmm..."
Viscount Vincent was deep in thought.
He was probably trying to sort things out in his mind.
Suddenly, Prince Theodore, who had been quietly listening from behind, spoke up.
"I see. I don't really understand all the details about magic, but I know that it's important to quickly understand the enemy's movements. From what you said, it seems like Melvin rushed in without thinking and you had to clean up after him, right? I thought we would be fine since we had many magicians flying around, but we rushed into the rock mountains. If we weren't careful, we could have faced a 'Magic Tornado' again, and everyone remaining in the town could have been in big trouble. Vincent, this doesn't match Melvin's story at all. But, I'm sure there were many people watching the situation. Once the injured are taken care of, make sure you confirm what really happened."
It might be surprising to say, but Prince Theodore might have understood the situation.
He spoke much more roughly than during the meeting, but is this his true self?
"If what you said is true, what reward do you want?"
"P-Prince?"
Viscount Vincent looked at Prince Theodore's face in a flustered way, but Prince Theodore didn't seem to care.
Is he being tested?
However, he felt he had nothing to feel guilty about.
He should honestly wish for his brother's title.
If his brother became a knight, then their father's place in Channing Village could be taken over by Brother Jasper.
It could also be good to try for one more bet.
If they know the value of that thing that doesn't react to the Detect Magic spell, it's obviously impossible to get it, but knowing that the enemy has it must be meaningful.
It also supports the unforgivable act of feeding the Barbarians.
And if they don't know the value, he might be able to get he.
He actually have 3, large and small, so he doesn't really want this, but it's nice to be able to use it openly.
Either way it's not a bad thing.
After thinking a lot, Al opened his mouth.
"I would be really grateful if you could help Brother Gustave get the honor of knight from Margrave Lester. Also, if it's okay, can I have the button that the magician I defeated had? I think it might be a magic bag."
