Volume 1 Chapter 7 The Power Of The Trainer

Volume 1 Chapter 7 The Power Of The Trainer

After deciding to take on the girl's request.

I quickly started training in the forest to make her stronger.

She was exhausted from battling monsters, so we could have returned to town and started later, but...

"I'm totally fine! In fact, I'm really energized knowing that Mr. Roezé is going to help me!"

Since she said that, we decided to start today.

I didn't want to push her too hard, but it's important to begin while she's motivated.

Plus, it's better to get started before my mind changes.

So, the training for the girl begins.

"Well then, just to get this out of the way, can you tell me your name?"

"Oh, I'm sorry! I forgot to say it!"

The girl cleared her throat and introduced herself again.

 "I'm Rose. Rose Vermilion."

"My name is Roezé Fullō. Nice to meet you again!"

Since we both forgot to introduce ourselves, we finally did so, albeit a bit late.

Our meeting yesterday was sudden, and today's reunion was unexpected too, so we didn't have the chance to share our names.

Anyway, let's get started with the training.

"So, what should we do first?"

 "Hmm..."

As we walked through the forest, Rose leaned forward and asked.

I could feel her eagerness to get stronger, which was a good attitude, but I found myself tilting my head in confusion.

 "W-What should we do?"

 "Eh?"

"I've only trained mid-rank adventurers before, so I'm not sure what to do for a newbie like you, Rose."

 "Oh, I see."

Until now, I had been part of a party, helping the members grow.

Most of them had some combat skills and knowledge, but Rose is still a total newbie adventurer.

Is it okay to jump straight into practical training?

"Also, I've never heard of a job class called [Apprentice Warrior], so I'm not sure what to do..."

 "Eh..."

 Rose's eyes widened in shock.

"Uh, um, did I mention my job class?"

 "Oh..."

I just remembered that I hadn't explained anything.

"Um, I'm sorry if it feels like I'm eavesdropping, but my skill... lets me see other people's 'Divine Revelations' without them knowing."

 "Without them knowing?"

 Divine Revelation.

In short, it's a detailed description of a job class given by the gods.

You can bring it forth by chanting a specific phrase, and it lets you know your current strength in detail.

Some say that the gods listen to the chant and show the person the details of their job class.

That's why it's called Divine Revelation.

For me, it just appears automatically.

"Could you show me your Divine Revelation?"

 "Y-yes."

When I asked, Rose shaped her hands like she was scooping water and gently pushed them forward.

She positioned her hands as if checking for rain falling from the sky, then slowly closed her eyes and chanted.

 "[Show me the Divine Revelation]."

Then, in front of us, a rolled-up piece of paper appeared, looking like parchment.

She had her hands ready, and she calmly caught it as it suddenly appeared.

When she handed it to me, I carefully opened it to check the contents.

 [Job Class]: Apprentice Warrior

 [Level]: 3

 [Skills]: -

 [Magic]: -

 [Divine Blessing]:

 - Strength: F50

 - Agility: F30

 - Resilience: F35

 - Magic: F10

 - Holy Power: F10

 This is Rose's Divine Revelation.

The job class is indeed 'Apprentice Warrior,' just as I said.

"Normally, Divine Revelations appear when you chant the phrase like you just did, right? But my skill called 'Divine Eye' lets me read various information from what I see, so I can even see other people's Divine Revelations. Like this..."

I held the Divine Revelation Rose lent me above her forehead.

In my eyes, it appeared like this, showing me other people's Divine Revelations.

That's how I already knew Rose's job class.

I feel a bit bad for eavesdropping.

"Wow, that's a handy power. So, Mr. Roezé, when you're walking around town, you can just see who has what job class and how strong they are, right?"

"Well, that's how it is. But I think there are people who don't want their revelations to be known, so I try not to look as much as possible."

For now, let's put that conversation aside.

I should think about Rose's training methods.

First, I'll take another look at the revelation she just pulled out.

 Job class: Apprentice Warrior.

 Level: 3.

The divine blessing power added to her base physical ability is all rated at the lowest, "F.".

Of course, there are no skills or magic that awaken with level increases.

If this is what she has achieved after a year of activity, it's clear that her growth rate is quite poor compared to others.

If only the divine blessing value was higher, but that's incredibly low too.

By the way, what even is an Apprentice Warrior?

"Hmm, what has Rose been doing this past year?"

"Uh, am I being scolded really badly right now?"

"Oh, sorry, that's not it. I was just wondering what kind of activities you've been doing for a year."

"I-I see. I registered as an adventurer when I was 14, and for the past year, I've been doing low-level monster hunting requests while looking for companions. It was tough financially, so I also did some day labor in the commercial district from time to time..."

 I see.

That's pretty much the same activities as a typical rookie adventurer.

If she hadn't done any monster hunting at all, it's not surprising she's at this level.

However, if she's been doing what she said for a year, it's strange that she hasn't surpassed level 10.

Levels become harder to increase as they approach the limit, so they usually go up quite easily at the beginning.

Could it be a physical issue? Or is there some other reason?.

"Oh, haha, my growth speed really is strange, isn't it? It's the best proof that I have no talent as an adventurer."

 Rose chuckles self-deprecatingly.

By telling someone else about her growth speed, she probably felt a bit pathetic.

I didn't say this to cheer her up, but just to state a fact.

"It seems like you definitely have a different constitution. But there's no need to be so pessimistic about it."

 "Huh?"

"Fixing that is my job as your Trainer."

Until she gets into some party, I'll take care of her.

Having declared that, I will do everything I can as a Trainer to help this girl grow.

 "Kiii!"

At that moment, we heard an animal's cry from behind us.

When Rose and I quickly turned around, a deer wrapped in flames appeared from the bushes.

 "F-Flare Bambi!"

 Rose, flustered, readied her sword.

It was understandable; this deer was the monster──Flare Bambi──that Rose had struggled against earlier.

Normally, it wouldn't be a foe for a beginner adventurer to face alone, but she had recklessly challenged it because she wanted to grow stronger quickly.

Because of that, she had almost been defeated...

"...Well, this might be just right."

I nodded slightly and suggested to Rose.

"Alright, let's try to take it down."

 "Huh?"

"I thought it would be better to teach you basic tactics and sword handling, but this is probably the quickest and easiest way to understand."

"Um, I just lost to that thing a moment ago..."

As if to signal her words, Flare Bambi charged at us.

 It was targeting Rose.

Flare Bambi charged forward, flames bursting from its antlers.

Rose, perhaps recalling her earlier defeat, panicked and tried to escape.

"Don't worry, get your sword ready!"

 "──What!?"

I raised my right hand and shouted.

 "[Boost]! [Resist]!"

As Rose quickly raised her sword like a shield, her body was enveloped in red and yellow light.

Right after that, the Flare Bambi charged in and collided with the sword, making a high-pitched sound that seemed impossible for a living creature.

The shockwave traveled through the ground and reached us...

 "W-What...!"

Rose had stopped the Flare Bambi with her sword.

She looked surprised by the fact itself.

Normally, she would have been overpowered and blown away...

"I cast support magic on you, so you should be able to safely take down the monster now."

 "Ah, thank you!"

One of the strengths of being a Trainer.

 That's this support magic.

It can enhance the target's strength and speed, as well as boost their magical and holy powers.

There's also support magic for weapons and armor, which can make even a simple wooden stick as sharp as a steel sword.

While there are many magic spells that directly attack monsters, powers focused on supporting allies are rare, and you don't often see users of support magic.

I think it's probably because my job class is meant to help allies grow, so I can use support magic to ensure safe and steady growth.

With her strength and resilience boosted by the support magic, Rose was pushing back the Flare Bambi that had just defeated her earlier.

 "Haah!"

Eventually, when she swung her sword, the Flare Bambi was pushed back significantly.

The impact made it stagger for just a moment, creating an opening.

Rose didn't miss that chance and closed in, thrusting the tip of her sword into the Flare Bambi.

 "[Sharpness]!"

I cast support magic on the sword to match her move.

The sword, which was never dull, became even sharper, easily piercing through the Flare Bambi's body.

Like a flame of life extinguishing, the deer's fire went out with a puff, and it lay powerless on the ground.

 "Did I... win?"

Rose was trembling as if she couldn't believe her victory.

She had managed to take down a monster that had been impossible to handle, and a mix of joy and confusion swirled in her heart.

To convey her victory, I handed her a piece of paper.

 "Look at your revelation."

 "...?"

The revelation that I had been holding onto, Rose's revelation.

The revelation disappears either after a certain time has passed since it appeared or by returning to its scroll form.

Or it can vanish instantly if it gets damaged or burned while it's still out.

Since it was still in my hands, I decided to return it to its owner, Rose.

 "Eh..."

Rose's eyes widen as she looks at her revelation.

 [Job Class]: Apprentice Warrior

 [Level]: 3

 [Skills]: -

 [Magic]: -

 [Divine Blessing]:

 - Strength: F80

 - Agility: F50

 - Resilience: F65

 - Magic: F14

 - Holy Power: F14

"I-I've defeated so many monsters, but my level never went up at all, and now I've gained 2...!"

"That's probably because you took down the Flare Bambi by yourself. Normally, a monster like that would be faced by adventurers over level 10, so taking it down in one hit would earn you a lot of divine growth points from the gods."

Even with support magic included, the divine growth points from defeating the Flare Bambi were mostly allocated to Rose.

The divine growth points, which are the source of growth, are distributed based on each person's contribution to monster hunting, so in this case, Rose should have received most of them.

Also, the amount of divine growth points gained can change depending on how the monster is defeated, so since she took it down in one hit, she likely received a lot from the gods this time.

It wouldn't be surprising if her level jumped up by 2.

 On top of that...

"Well, it seems my 'Support' skill also had an effect."

 "Support skill?"

Seeing Rose tilt her head, I raised my right hand and chanted.

 "[Show skill]."

Then, a paper identical to the one she was holding appeared in front of me, rolled up.

I grabbed it just in time and tossed it to Rose.

She quickly understood its meaning and opened the paper to check inside.

 'Support' - Level 10

 - Effects apply to nearby people.

 - Divine growth point acquisition increased by 5 times.

Just like the divine revelation, I can check the skills that have manifested on this paper.

Seeing the details of the support skill, Rose suddenly looked at my face with a surprised expression.

That's right, just by being nearby, Rose can earn 5 times more divine growth points than usual.

"Alright, let's keep defeating monsters like this!"

For the first time in a while as a Trainer, I genuinely felt happy about my friends' growth.
