Chapter 34 Quollio With A Crying Face And Spartan Attitude
So, here's the deal──there are 6 types of magic.
Red for fire. Blue for water and ice. Green for wind and lightning. Yellow for earth.
These 4 are the main ones. But there are also 2 other types.
They are 'white' and 'black.'
Black might sound like it's all about darkness, but it's not really like that. It's magic used by creatures called "beasts."
Now, about white magic. You'd think it's all about light, but in this world, white is more general. Most of it is common spells.
Common spells are the everyday magic that magic users use without special words (runes) or tools.
For example, there's "levitation" to float small objects, "locking" to open and close doors, and "enclosure" to wrap things in a magic barrier.
These spells are pretty basic, and there aren't many that can be used in battles.
Plus, the few battle spells are just for boosting stats.
So, even though I'm the protagonist, it looks like I'm more of a support-type magic user.
Light magic? Beams?
They say I should just be reborn as a red magic user. Ha ha.
Ughhh──why does it have to be like this, oh goddess!!!!
* * *
Okay.
Not really sudden, but hey.
I'm the protagonist who got really down in the middle of an empty lot the other day.
I was pretty bummed out to find out I have no talent for the 4 main types of magic, but I'm still okay. Not completely fine, but I'm hanging in there.
Honestly, it was a shock. As someone who dreams of being a hero, I wanted to experience the thrill of using flashy magic.
But it was too early to give up.
Sure, I couldn't use the 4 main types of magic, but my main goal was to control Magi.
And Quollio said that it's totally fine to learn how to handle Magi with white magic.
"Ah, so what does that mean?"
"Cheer up, Hiiro. I might struggle with training, but I'm good at magic. There are plenty of ways to practice handling Magi. Let's go all out!"
"Hey, Quollio. Are you holding a grudge or something?"
"Of course not! That's just a misunderstanding. I'm not still mad about you teasing me when I was tired from training, ha ha ha!"
From that day on, I added 'magic training' to my self-study routine.
And wow... this was really tough.
First, I had to get used to handling Magi, so I had to keep using magic over and over.
But I didn't have the talent for the 4 main types of magic. So, I ended up practicing with common spells instead.
White magic to float objects... "levitation."
I had to keep floating quills, books, and bottles endlessly.
White magic to lock and unlock... "locking."
I just kept opening and closing padlocks and my dorm room key.
White magic to wrap things in Magi... "enclosure."
I used this to cover fragile things like glass bottles and dropped them from the table to test their strength.
I skipped "sensing" since I wasn't ready for that yet, so I just focused on those 3 practices.
So, do you get it?
It's super boring!
I know it's my fault for not having talent in the 4 main types.
I get that, but it's just so dull. It's like endlessly hunting slimes in the grass outside the first village.
Plus, it's totally different from the training I'm used to, so it took a lot of effort just to get the hang of it.
This training used way more mental energy than physical, so I felt way more tired.
"The cool thing about white magic is that most of it is general use, and you don't need spells or tools. So, unlike other types, as long as you have Magi (energy), you can practice as much as you want. Lucky you, Hiiro!"
And Quollio, my trainer, was super into it for some reason.
Morning training, then more practice. Night training, sleep, and wake up again.
It was a packed schedule, thicker than a bowl of rich tonkotsu ramen.
Time flew by in no time.
Yeah. Specifically, about 2 weeks.
Two weeks later. Gemini Month (May), the 7th day.
So, it's exactly one month since I joined.
Got it?
"Alright, we're starting the selection test now!!"
The big event has come so fast.
