Chapter 31 Magi, Magic, And Musclebound Man
"Wait, what the hell does that mean? Magic's one thing, but using Magi in close combat? That sounds like a load of crap."
"Actually, it makes a lot of sense. Handling Magi isn't just for magic users (Druids). Magi is the source of power in everything, and there's a saying that all paths lead to Magi. Using Magi when swinging a sword is way more powerful and faster than just swinging it normally. A skilled fighter (Gladiator) is often much better at using Magi than a regular magic user."
"Hold on... so the reason I've been stuck this whole time is 'cause I couldn't tap into Magi at all?"
"That's a strong possibility, in my opinion."
"Hah! Quollio, you smart bastard! Turns out you're not just some library rat."
"Hey, watch it."
I couldn't believe I finally figured out the cause. Seriously? I knew about Magi, but I thought it was only for magic.
But if I think of Magi like MP (magic points) in games, it makes sense.
Normal "attack" and MP-consuming "special attack" are clearly different, with the latter being stronger.
And this isn't just about pure attacks; it also applies to dodging, defense, and physical abilities.
So when they say all paths lead to Magi, that's what they mean. No wonder I felt like I was falling behind everyone else.
As expected of Quollio, even though he got this info through Shura, he found the reason for my problem so easily.
Having a smart friend like him is really reassuring for someone like me who doesn't know much.
"But it's strange. The magic department at Valkyrie Academy has mandatory classes, so you should have had some lessons on handling Magi."
"......"
The magic department, huh? Interesting. Mandatory classes, you say?
"You didn't, did you?"
"Well... I couldn't help it. I was kind of... a delinquent back then."
"Yeah, but you still act like one now. You're a real piece of work."
I can't help it! I only had 2 days of school life!
"So, Hiiro, what's your magic attribute?"
"Wait, what? My magic attribute?"
"Remember the 'Color Ceremony' at the entrance ceremony of Valkyrie Academy? You stood on a special magic circle that identifies your strongest attribute. What color did the magic circle glow when you stood on it?"
"......"
"Hey, you don't remember?"
"I... don't remember."
"...... I've decided that even if I struggle to find a job in the future, I will never become a teacher at the academy."
Quollio's shocked look really hurt. It hurt a lot.
But seriously, it can't be helped. I would have loved to experience a fantasy school life if I could.
And what's this Color Ceremony? It sounds like a fun event.
There must have been so many exciting things happening in school life. I really regret it. Maybe there could have been a magic user Hiiro route or a love comedy with a delinquent and a cute classmate!
Since I didn't even get to keep my memories, just adapting to the gray school life was tough. I thought back on it and felt like crying inside.
"This is a problem. I found the cause, but now there's a new issue."
"A problem?"
"Because it seems you have no knowledge or understanding of Magi, right? Trying to control a power you don't understand is like trying to pour spilled water back into a bowl."
"Damn it, so what the hell do I do?"
Crying won't help.
Quollio was right; even if I figured out the cause of my struggles, finding a solution wouldn't be easy.
Magi is different. I can push through with willpower, but this is a whole different ball game.
Ugh, this is tough. As I was grinding my teeth in frustration, Quollio let out a big, exaggerated sigh.
"It's not that complicated, is it?"
"The hell it isnt! This is a massive problem for me!"
"Think about it more. Your goal is to learn how to use Magi. If that's the case, there's a quick and convenient way to do it. You can understand, control, and gather Magi to turn it into power... there's a technique for that."
"......!"
And once again, I felt it deep down.
Having a smart friend really is the best thing ever.
"Hiiro Merifar. Are you interested in the world of magic?"
The blue eyes behind the glasses sparkled like stars, as if to say, "Welcome!"
