Volume 15 Chapter 2 Report And Memories
After leaving Kane to continue his detailed investigation on foot, Al flew back to the Levy merchant guild's mansion. In the dining hall, Guildmaster Levy was chatting with Naresh, who had been at the mansion for a few days.
As Al thought it was unusual for Naresh to be there at this time, he tried to just nod and pass by, but Naresh called out to him.
"Welcome back, Al. What did Kane say?"
It seemed Naresh knew that Al and Kane had gone out for something.
"Well, he said he's going to do a detailed investigation now. After that, he mentioned something about discussing things with the village heads. He wants help again in about ten days."
"Hmm, so it sounds like there will be some discussions. That's good. But ten days from now, huh? It looks like I'll have to go to the capital with Lord Zora after all."
Oh, Naresh is going to the capital, Rain? During this busy time? Al looked puzzled, and Naresh smiled lightly and added an explanation.
"Yeah, at the beginning of the year, the Viscount, Baron, and important knights serving Margrave Rain gather in the capital for a meeting called the New Year's Ceremony. At that event, I will officially receive the title of Baron."
Now that he thought about it, Al remembered that his father also went to the capital, Rain, during this time every few years. It probably wasn't every year because he wasn't an important knight.
"Wow, congratulations. Your Excellency Baron Sennett!"
After Al said that, Naresh showed a complicated smile.
"Well, when you put it that way, it feels a bit embarrassing."
"No, no, it might be better to get used to it a little now,"
said Guildmaster Levy, who was sitting across from Naresh and drinking tea, nodding several times.
"By the way, Al. The sword you gave me is finally ready. I was really hoping to have it done in time for the New Year's ceremony, but it was really cutting it close."
As Naresh said this, Craig took out a sword wrapped in cloth from a box beside him.
It used to have a plain and rugged design, but now it had a golden guard added, and the overall look had changed completely with beautiful golden arabesque decorations on a black background.
"Wow, that's amazing. It's beautiful."
"Yeah, it is. When you think of it as something the Tempest royal family would wear, this is the kind of color it would be. However, I'm sorry, Al, but since there's a situation with the Sennett family right now, I think I'll keep it a secret that this sword was a gift from Lady Patricia."
Al tilted his head, not quite understanding, but when he saw Guildmaster Levy and Craig nodding at Naresh's words, he sensed there was some kind of situation.
"Okay, I got it. So, are you leaving soon?"
"Yeah, we plan to leave the day after tomorrow morning."
It really felt busy. Al was impressed by how well Naresh could keep up his energy.
'Hey, Ally? What about Naresh's magic guidance?'
It was true. They had talked about finding time, but that time was always hard to find. If he joined the trip to the capital this time, maybe he would have time at night. Kane's business was about ten days away.
It might be okay to accompany him just on the way there. By the way, how much magic talent does Naresh really have? Does he have no potential at all?
"By the way, how has Sir Naresh's spell training been so far?"
"Well..."
Naresh was a bit surprised by the sudden question, but he explained to Al that he had studied under several magicians until now.
According to him, Naresh had roughly learned to read the special characters written in the spellbook, but he seemed unable to interpret the symbols.
Their explanations varied; some squinted their eyes, some opened them wide, and others closed their eyes and imagined it in their minds. However, they all said that he should be able to feel something from the symbols in the spellbook.
"Even if they say you can feel something..."
Naresh said this with a slight wry smile.
'Feeling it... is that what they mean?'
Al thought for a moment. Interpreting the symbols from the spellbook was fundamental to learning spells. If he couldn't do that, he wouldn't be able to learn any spells.
'Do you want to try it with me? If it's about feeling, we can feel it together. It's that feeling that rises from my back to my neck when Ally interprets the spellbook, right?
Is that what he can't feel?'
"Hmm..."
Al couldn't help but groan. Maybe that was it.
He clearly remembered the first time his grandfather showed him the spellbook when he was young. Looking at the symbols in that spellbook, he felt a shiver run up his spine.
Did Naresh not feel that sensation? Did it mean he had no talent for magic? If Glee checked, they might find out.
It might be good to prepare the spellbook and have Glee hold the pendant to check.
"Sir Naresh, do you have a little time before we leave? I want you to try and see what it feels like."
"Ah, sure. If it's Al, I think you can teach me that feeling. Well, I need to go to Viscount Parker's place first, but I should have time after dinner. Maybe around sunset. Is Baroness Tabasa's room okay?"
Oh, he almost forgot about that.
"About Baroness Tabasa, um--"
"Oh, it's fine."
As Al started to speak a bit quickly, Craig interrupted him.
"I have her full approval regarding Baroness Tabasa. She understands that this disguise is necessary for Lady Patricia, and her late husband would understand too. She also mentioned that she isn't considering remarriage, so this rumor shouldn't be a problem."
Is that so? Is that really okay? Since Al was also involved while meeting Patricia, it shouldn't be a problem, but...
"Got it. Should I just pretend not to notice the rumors?"
Seeing Craig nod, Al sighed. It was tough to keep up all the disguises.
"Well then, around sunset, in Baroness Tabasa's room."
As Al said this, as if he had resigned himself to it, Naresh nodded.
