Volume 11 Chapter 7 Guildmaster Levy
Al left Patricia and Joanna at the research tower and went to the border city of Lester alone. He felt he could keep Patricia safe there, but he needed to buy food and supplies. He was also curious about the great mage Veil from the Tempest Kingdom and what happened to Stroud, who had proposed to Patricia. So, he decided to visit Guildmaster Levy for more information. Al had to be sneaky since he was supposed to be back home with Orson.
The border city of Lester wasn't surrounded by walls, so it was easy for him to sneak in while hiding his face with a hood. After spending more than 6 months as a magician, he had a good idea of where using magic might get him noticed.
"Hello, Guildmaster Levy. Ms. Ruella. I'm glad to see you're safe."
Al sent a 'Telepathy' message to Barbara, who was in the office, and she let him into a private meeting room. There, he found not only Guildmaster Levy but also his daughter, Ruella. The two of them quickly stood up from the sofa and happily hugged Al one after another.
"Al, you're safe! I was really worried when I heard that Lady Patricia and the others were attacked by lizardmen and killed. It's a relief to see you're okay."
"I was really worried too!"
Seeing Al nod, Guildmaster Levy and Ruella smiled brightly.
"Well, that's good. Please, have a seat."
With that, Guildmaster Levy sat down on the sofa. Ruella sat next to him, while Al and Barbara took seats on separate sofas. The rumor about Lady Patricia being with the lizardman matched the act they had put on when throwing away the listening magic tool with scraps of clothing and wood.
Al was worried if they were within the tool's listening range, but it seemed to have worked. He had stressed about what to do if the news was that she was dead, but it turned out to be unnecessary worry.
"Patricia and Ms. Joanna are both doing well. I won't say exactly where, but they are in a safe place quite a bit to the south."
It's not that Guildmaster Levy was untrustworthy, but this could become a new grave for Tempest. It was better not to say too much.
"I see, a safe place. That's good. What about Viscountess Tara? Have you told her this?"
"I haven't. Should I?"
Guildmaster Levy and Ruella exchanged glances. Ruella shook her head, and Guildmaster Levy nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, for now, it's better not to say anything. Barbara, please keep this a secret from my people for now."
Barbara nodded at his words.
"Where did the story about Patricia being killed by the lizardman come from?"
"Two days ago, at the tea party in the lord's mansion, Ruella heard Lady Agnes, Mr. Sanjay's mother or the second wife of Viscount Lester, talking. It might have been an act, but she looked very sad."
Al nodded deeply. It was clear that Agnes was using information from the hairpin, which was a magic tool for eavesdropping. What was her goal? That tool must be quite expensive, and there might be other accomplices involved. For now, it seemed that using the lizardman they found while escaping Lord Veil had paid off.
"So, it means that here, Patricia is considered dead, right?"
"There's been no official announcement, but it seems everyone thinks that way. Mr. Sanjay, Mr. Stroud, Lady Serena, and His Excellency Viscount Eugene left for the capital yesterday, and Viscountess Tara was wearing black and looked very gloomy."
The fact that Stroud, who was planning to propose to Patricia, returned to the capital meant he had completely given up. He must have believed she was dead.
"What about His Excellency Viscount Lester?"
"Viscount Lester is weak and rarely leaves his room in the lord's mansion. So, I haven't been able to talk to him about this situation."
Al's question was answered not by Guildmaster Levy, but by Ruella, who shook her head. Even Naresh's fiancée, who was supposed to be a daughter-in-law, hadn't been seen much. But for now, it seemed they had successfully tricked the others.
"Do you know if Lord Veil has returned?"
"Lord Veil?"
The 3 of them looked puzzled, and Al realized he hadn't explained how he had shaken off the pursuers. He started to recount what happened after parting with Barbara. Finally, he mentioned that they encountered the group at an ancient ruin, where someone had used the name Veil to convince them, claiming to be a great magician from the magician's guild.
"I see, the Tempest Kingdom has a rank called magician noble and an organization called the magician's guild. So, he must be a magician serving the Marquis Prentis family. That's why he tried to kill Lady Patricia. Unfortunately, I haven't seen him return. Is it possible he lost his life in the borderlands?"
Since he couldn't have been caught in the 'Magic Tornado' spell, that seemed unlikely. Al shook his head. He probably could use the 'Fly' spell, so he should have returned by now, but maybe he didn't stop by the border city of Lester. It would be good if they believed Patricia was dead...
"Anyway, I'm glad Al is back. What should we do now?"
"About that, I have a request. But first, thank you for the magic bag. It really helped me a lot."
Al bowed deeply. Guildmaster Levy shook his head lightly and smiled.
"I should be the one thanking you. Without your efforts this time, not just me and Ruella, but many people in our merchant guild would have lost their lives. I'm glad it was useful."
"And I have another request. I said we are hiding in a safe place, but unfortunately, there isn't enough food. For now, I need enough grains to last about 6 months, as well as live livestock, and seeds or seedlings for crops that can grow in a warmer place."
Guildmaster Levy thought for a moment.
"It is a safe area, but there's no food... Is it somewhere deep in the mountains or maybe a deserted island? Are you planning to develop it with just the 3 of you? If so, you will need workers too. Also, you might have heard from Barbara, but if you put live livestock in the magic bag, they will sadly die by the time you arrive. If you want them alive, you'll need to transport them by wagon or something. You will need a driver and someone to take care of them as well. Should I prepare both here?"
"Guildmaster, that would definitely be noticed..."
Guildmaster Levy started talking to Barbara. How much should he reveal? It would be impossible to hide everything, but he could trust these 3.
"No, that's fine. Actually, that safe land is an undiscovered ancient ruin. I can't share the exact location or details, but even though it's overgrown, there are still fields and facilities for raising animals. Plus, I was able to get a teleport magic tool there. I think I can fit live livestock into a magic bag for transport if it's just for a few minutes."
"What? A teleport magic tool!"
Guildmaster Levy almost shouted but quickly held back. Ruella and Barbara widened their eyes and looked at each other. However, Al shook his head.
"It's not that you can teleport anywhere; it can only jump to one pre-registered location, so it's a pretty limited magic tool."
"Still, that's amazing. So, that means you can move right to where Lady Patricia is?"
Al nodded. Guildmaster Levy thought for a moment.
"Just to be sure, is it impossible to hide the two of them in some kind of villa? Even if there are some traces left, I think living by growing crops would be quite difficult..."
Al shook his head. The other person was also a magician. It would be hard to stay alert all the time against things like Floating Eyes. It wouldn't be very safe. The research tower is safer.
"I see. Normally, we should report this kind of magic tool to the magician's guild, but if we do, we can't protect Lady Patricia. I'll prepare all the materials, but let's pretend we didn't hear about the teleportation magic tool. Ruella, Barbara, is that okay with you?"
The two nodded at Guildmaster Levy's words.
"As for the payment... I'm not sure if it counts, but actually, we have a wyvern's corpse. If we can sell it as material..."
"WYVERN!!"
This time, all 3 of them shouted loudly.
"We encountered it on the way and managed to defeat it with Ms. Joanna. We defeated it about 3 days ago, and I used the 'Thermos' spell to keep it cool, so I don't think it's rotten yet."
"I'm always surprised by you, Al. I haven't heard of a wyvern being defeated in the last ten years. If I remember correctly, it was offered to the royal family, and the person who defeated it received a large amount of gold coins as a reward. I can't remember the exact number, but it wasn't a hundred. Was it a thousand...? In any case, it would cause quite a stir."
Saying this, Guildmaster Levy crossed his arms and thought deeply. Indeed, wyverns were famous, but he had never heard of anyone defeating one. Maybe Guildmaster Levy was right.
"But Ms. Joanna and I can't claim we defeated it..."
"That's true."
Guildmaster Levy looked at Barbara. Barbara quickly shook her head.
"I don't want to. I can't say I defeated it when I didn't."
Guildmaster Levy smiled wryly.
"I'm sorry. I thought you would say that, Barbara. It can't be helped. For now, let's have a reliable dismantler take it apart and sell the materials. That should still have quite a bit of value. It should be enough to gather what Al wants."
"Thank you very much!"
"Alright, then let's talk in detail about what we need. Ruella, Barbara, please help me."
