Volume 3 Chapter 4 Big-Mouthed Lizard Leather Armor
"Wow, this is great! It's in such good shape for its size. Super awesome!"
Instead of talking, it was faster to see, so when Al was waiting at the dismantling site as Orson and Cody suggested, a man in his late thirties approached. He was a bit chubby and about the same height as Al. He looked really excited to see the dead large mouth lizard on the disassembly table.
"Is that guy Mr. Dennis?"
Feeling a bit overwhelmed by the man's energy, Al asked quietly, and both Orson and Cody nodded.
"So, who's the lucky person who wants to turn this large-mouth lizard skin into armor? I'm hoping it's a super sexy woman, not Orson, right? Maybe a muscular guy in a black leather suit, that'd be hot too, but he'd better shed some of that belly fat first. It wouldn't look good otherwise..."
Dennis kept mumbling to himself, still in a high mood, and seemed not to notice Al and Lippi.
"No, I want you to make mine."
As Orson pushed Al's back, half hiding behind him, Dennis finally seemed to notice Al and stared at him.
"This kid? You're still a child, right?"
Al looked like a seasoned adventurer, but at 155 cm tall, he had grown 4 cm in the last 3 months, still looking like he was between a child and an adult. Orson smiled wryly beside him.
"I'm Al. I'm living as an adventurer, sort of. Mr. Orson recommended me."
Dennis looked thoughtful.
"Hmm, I'm sorry about that. Uh, Orson? Can you tell me why you recommended this kid for the big-mouthed lizard?"
"He's been working with me recently, but he's also a magician who operates solo. He's still young, but I think he has a bright future."
When he heard "magician," he looked surprised. He stared at Al.
"So, does that mean he's some noble's son or something?"
Al shook his head vigorously.
"Not a noble's son at all. I'm the third son of a poor knight, and I'm poor myself."
Hearing that, Dennis crossed his arms.
"I honestly think it's a waste for a beginner to wear such high-quality leather. But if Orson has a bright future, I guess I can trust that. From the looks of it, it seems better if it's not too flashy. However, he will still grow bigger. What should we do..."
"Let's leave that to you, okay? How much is it? If I give you the whole thing and take out the cost for Cody's dismantling, will there be enough left for leather armor? It would be great if I could also cover Lippi's payment..."
Dennis appeared to be measuring the large lizard's parts, occasionally whispering to Cody and exchanging signals with his fingers. Al had many questions but didn't want to interrupt. After a while, Cody and Dennis turned back to Orson and the others.
"The amount I will pay for the whole big lizard is 8 gold coins. This is because it's in excellent condition and quite large. Considering that, this is the best price I can offer. Is that okay? If so, I'll leave the rest to Dennis."
When Cody said this, Orson nodded. He was surprised by the price since he had originally heard it would be around 3 gold coins. Al also had no complaints. Seeing that there were no questions, Dennis continued.
"I have two proposals. One is to use the leather from this creature to make armor, just like you suggested. We can use the best parts for a defense effect similar to Orson's. However, the 8 gold coins we paid won't be enough. I need to estimate the costs further, so be prepared for an additional 4 gold coins. Also, I'll need about a month for the work."
Al glanced at Orson, who was nodding in understanding. However, Al thought the amount was too high, making his dream of a new spellbook feel even further away--a reality he couldn't accept.
"The other option is to buy this creature and adjust the leather armor made from the large lizard I have to fit Al. Since it's my special version, itll be better than the regular store armor, but not as good as the first option. This one would cost 7 gold coins, leaving you with 1 gold coin from the purchase price."
"Of course, I prefer the latter." "Of course, I prefer the former."
Al and Orson's words overlapped. They looked at each other. Seeing this, Cody and Dennis burst out laughing.
"Come on, Orson. Even if we split the profits, after paying Lippi, my share would be 3 gold coins. Adding my savings, I can only pay a maximum of 7 gold coins."
"Hey, you know... the defense of my armor is impressive. If the leather armor is that good, think of it as a lifelong investment. Getting it for just 12 gold coins is a steal. You should thank Dennis."
"But..."
Before Al could say more, Orson poked his forehead.
"Fishing for big lizards isn't just today; it'll continue for another week. Even if today isn't great, you can still earn enough for the armor. I can cover you until then, and there are opportunities to earn later, so don't worry."
Al felt anxious about relying on tomorrow's earnings, but he also thought that Orson's words weren't completely wrong. He nodded, pushed by the momentum.
"Alright, for now, I'll pay all the money. I'll cover Lippi for you."
"Then, shall we measure the exact size?"
From there, the conversation moved quickly, and Al gradually became anxious, wondering if this was really the right decision.
