Volume 12 Chapter 18 I Want To Protect
Ice, who had escaped with Wade in her arms, released the Domain Control after putting enough distance between herself and Fenrir.
"Ah..."
Suddenly, Wade, who had been still, began to move. From Wade's perspective, the scenery around him seemed to change in an instant.
"Wade-kun, are you okay...?!"
And that meant the wound that had stopped bleeding would start bleeding again. Ice quickly froze the wound to stop the bleeding and worried about Wade's condition.
"Ah, yeah... I'm not doing too great, but at least for now, it's not a problem... Thanks for saving me, Ice. Ugh, I'm such a mess. I don't know what I'm doing."
Wade shook his head in regret. Was he ashamed of losing? Ice thought that might be the case, but it was different.
"...I was being too greedy. I didn't become stronger at all. But lately, I've been getting stronger, only to lose even more. I don't know what I'm doing."
Ice couldn't understand what Wade was regretting. But what Wade said was true.
Wade would lose more as he got stronger. He would lose the thrill of battle, the excitement of finding an equal opponent. As he got closer to perfection, he would become more isolated.
Ice thought about that and bit her lip. Then Wade said,
"...By the way, Ice, when did you learn Domain Control? That's Hel's Domain Control, right?"
A chill ran down Ice's spine. She didn't want Wade to know that she had devoured Hel.
"Uh, um, well, that, uh...?"
"It's amazing... My friends are all really amazing. They're all really strong, and they're all following me, helping me out..."
Wade didn't seem very interested in trying to fix things up, though.
"Sometimes, they even surpass me, you know? My friends are all really amazing..."
When Ice heard that, her chest tightened. She became more convinced than ever.
After all, Ice wasn't wrong. Ice and the others had been getting stronger, desperate to keep up with Wade.
That meant they wouldn't let Wade be alone. They would protect Wade.
"Ice-chan! Wade is―――." "Ice, wait."
Just then, Toxy and Sandra caught up to Ice. "Both of you...!" Ice turned around.
"Wade, wait."
Toxy looked at Wade's lost arm with a stern face. Meanwhile, Sandra stared at Wade with an unfocused gaze, her eyes wide open.
"His chakra isn't moving."
"Haha...Sandra, that's right. Fenrir's Domain Control has the power to nullify fate, it seems."
"...That's basically the same as being dead."
Ice and Toxy were shocked by Sandra's words.
"What's going on, Sandra-chan?"
"When Wade went down last time, I heard a detailed explanation from Alex. Fate is like that. The more you have, the more glorious it is, and the less you have, the more it leads to destruction, basically death."
"...Fenrir killed the main god of Norse mythology with that, didn't it? Then, that's what it means, I think..."
As Wade was on the brink of death, Ice's heart was racing with anxiety.
But that was no good. If they didn't do something now, what would happen?
"...Wade-kun, can you really wait alone...? Of course, I'll leave an Ice Soldier with you, but..."
Toxy reacted with a startled "huh?" to Ice's words. Toxy was kind. She must have thought that someone should stay with Wade, who had been pushed to the edge like this.
But Fenrir was a formidable foe. If even one person was missing from this group, it would be tough to win.
"...Ah, but can I really leave it to you...?"
Wade's worried tone made Ice nod firmly.
"Yeah...! We'll figure something out, so trust me!"
"...Okay, then I'll leave it to you and take a nap..."
Wade closed his eyes quietly. Ice whispered softly.
"Goodnight, Wade-kun... By the time you wake up, we'll have everything solved, okay?"
Wade seemed to have fallen asleep, barely clinging to consciousness. Wade was breathing quietly, and Toxy checked on him, saying "It looks like there's no immediate problem" with a serious face.
Ice called out 3 Ice Soldiers to carry Wade away. At least, they moved him to a safe location.
Then, Ice turned to the other 2.
"Let's go, both of you."
When Ice said that, Toxy was slightly startled, then nodded with a determined expression. Sandra was already standing up, saying "You two are slow."
And so, the 3 of them set off.
They can tell where Fenrir is just by looking. No matter where he is in the Bazaar, his enormous body is visible.
"Let's discuss our strategy while we walk, okay?"
In response to Ice's words, the two of them nod. Ice begins to explain to the two how they're going to take down Fenrir.
