Volume 9 Chapter 6 Damn New Life

Volume 9 Chapter 6 Damn New Life

The day after we settled down in the Demon King's city, Ice and I were sitting on the street, gritting our teeth.

"Ugh, Wade-kun... Ugh, cheer up...! ."

"...Only Ice is kind to me..."

"T-That's not true... Everyone else is kind, too? ...Even though they're not here..."

Ice laughed awkwardly, so I sighed.

What happened to us? If we talk about it in a nutshell, we will talk about how hell was scum.

First, I decided to move with Ice, who wanted to come with me. The others hadn't started moving yet.

I thought we could get information by finding a job, but I stumbled at the very beginning. There was no adventurer's guild in the city.

'What the hell are you talking about, you brat!? I'll catch you and make you my sl*ve!'

I instantly beat up a group of 5 Demons who attacked me, and I was kindly taught about the basic common sense of the city.

First of all, there's no adventurer's guild in the city. That's because, basically, working in this city other than as a specialist is a sl*ve's job.

Cleaning the city is a sl*ve's job. Carrying luggage is a sl*ve's job. Slaying monsters is a sl*ve's job. All other simple chores are sl*ve's jobs.

This city seems to be a city with a surprising 80% sl*ve rate, except for some areas. That's why all the easy jobs belong to the sl*ves.

The exceptions are specialized jobs that require special skills and business owner-level positions. Basically, it's a world where everyone except technicians or presidents is a sl*ve. This city is crazy.

So, Ice and I were at a loss, having lost sight of the entrance to the information gathering called "finding a job".

"What should I do... Seriously... If I keep picking fights and winning, won't someone buy my skills?"

"Ugh, Wade-kun... If the Demon King's army finds out about us, we're in big trouble!"

"...Yeah, I know. It's bad to be targeted when we don't even know what's going on. What should we do..."

I feel completely like a jobless bum. It's depressing. There's no work anywhere.

But that's not the only reason I'm in a bad mood.

"Hey! Whatcha doin', kid? Lookin' bored?"

 "...Huh?"

A few demons are approaching us. They all look really tough.

I click my tongue and glare at the demons.

"Scram. We don't need any kidnappers around here."

"Huh? How'd you know we're kidnappers?"

"Because you're the fifth group of you guys I've seen, you idiot!"

I quickly jump up and swiftly kick through the demon's throat with my foot, enhanced by Anahata Chakra.

Even though I held back, my kick pierced through the demon's neck, and its head flew up into the air.

I spun around in midair, and while shooting the severed head, I shouted, "Die, you trash! Object Weight Increase!"

The head, with its weight increased, bounced off the demons it hit. The demons it hit also bounced off. The whole place was covered in blood.

 "H-Help! Aaaaahhhh!"

The only demon that survived was terrified by the sight and hurriedly ran away. I sighed and groaned, "Hell is real..."

The second reason I'm in a bad mood is that there are way too many kidnappers.

There were kidnappers in the Karditsa slums too. I almost got into trouble once when I was little. But that only happened once in my whole life.

But in the city, I've already run into 20 kidnappers in just a few hours. That's way too many. It doesn't make sense. It's crazy how many kidnappers there are, like they're street vendors in the city.

"Wade-kun. This place is covered in blood too, should we move...?"

"...Nah, let's stay here until I think of something. If they see all this blood, maybe the kidnappers won't come near us."

I was exhausted and replied to Ice that way. Ice thought for a moment and smiled, "Even so, it might be good, huh... Unlike the main street, we won't see any Demon King army."

Then I started thinking about what to do. If I moved a long distance, I might find some kind of work.

If I became a sl*ve, I could at least find work, but I didn't want to become a sl*ve like that.

Our real goal is to gather information. Losing my freedom for that kind of work would be counterproductive.

As I was thinking about that, Ice called out to me, "Wade-kun..." When I looked up, another group of 3 was approaching us from the front.

"...What are you guys doing? Can't you see all this spilled blood?"

When I threatened them like that, the red-haired demon at the front said to me,

"If anything, I thought I'd come over because I can see it☆ You guys don't have any smell of sorcery, but maybe you're strong?"

I narrowed my eyes even further at that reply.

The red-haired demon had a gender-neutral physique. Red hair that reached their shoulders and a carefree atmosphere. Their smile was not unpleasant and somehow seemed kind.

But among the human traffickers I had killed and driven away until now, there were those who seemed kind at first glance. They were gentle and seemed like they couldn't even kill a bug.

Moreover, that guy's first words were 'Male brats are gladiator sl*ves in the circus, and female brats are s*x sl*ves'. Of course, I killed him immediately.

So, appearances are not something to be careless about. I replied,

"Yeah, I'm strong. Strong enough to wipe you guys out right now."

 "Ahaha! Nice. Then―――try it, yeah!"

The speed is pretty good, I think. The red-haired demon jumped into my chest and unleashed a sharp piercing hand at me.

I dodged it and moved behind the red-haired demon's back. "It's my turn," I said as I slammed my fist into it, intending to finish it.

I thought I could finish it.

"――――Oops! Wow, you're amazing! I didn't think it would come to seriously dodging!"

The red-haired demon avoided my attack much faster than the initial attack speed. I was taken aback and laughed after a moment.

"...Huh? What's this? You're pretty strong, aren't you?"

"You too. You were way stronger than I expected. I thought it was strange that I didn't smell any sorcery, but... no, that was quite unexpected. More unexpected than I expected."

The red-haired guy said that, and his 2 companions said, "Leader! That's why we told you it looked dangerous!" and "Besides, it takes someone special to make the leader go all out..."

"So, what do you want from me?"

When I urged them, the red-haired guy reached out to me. Were they going for a handshake? I looked at the red-haired guy.

"Well, we're a little short-handed. I was looking for someone strong. Although, I didn't think I'd find someone as strong as you."

"So, you want to team up with me?"

"Yeah. With a newbie who doesn't seem to have any ties. You're a newbie, right? Getting into a back alley and getting involved with human traffickers is a sign of a powerful newbie. The back alley is a den of crime, after all."

"...Is that so? Huh, so this place is like a living area for traffickers?"

"Hahaha! Of course it is! The back alleys aren't patrolled by the Demon King's army, so the crime rate is completely different from the well-guarded main streets!"

I was stunned to hear that. So, because it was a den of criminals, I got involved with criminals, huh? Was I the bad guy?

As I slumped my shoulders, the red-haired guy said,

"So, what do you say? Will you join us?"

"...Fine. You seem like the least evil of the demons."

I extended my hand to the red-haired guy. They smiled and shook my hand.

"I'm Kyrie! Nice to meet you!"

"I'm Wade. Nice to meet you too."

 We shook hands.

This was one of the most important encounters in this Nilfheim. It was a meeting with the 3 people who called themselves the Klainatzirks, and especially their leader, Kyrie.
