Volume 9 Chapter 2 Repulsion
To be honest, there's one magic I haven't mastered in my gravity magic.
Its name is 'Repulsion'. The effect is, well, 'Repulsion'.
It's a magic that creates an anti-gravity movement, and by maximizing it when attacking, I can increase the shock impact. That's how I've been using it so far.
"...So, you want to use this Repulsion magic with an effect like that to defend yourself by covering your entire body, Wade-kun?"
"Because if I woke up and my internal organs get eaten, it's still pretty scary. I don't want to experience that again, Clay."
"I'm surprised, Wade-kun... I mean, it's not like it's unusual for you."
"Well, lately, I've been feeling less pain, and it's not connected to my emotions. Even if my arm gets cut off, it's just like 'Oh, I did it!' level."
"Wade-kun, you're almost invincible, aren't you?"
"But if I get blown to pieces by Sieg-level violence, it still hurts a lot."
"I see..."
Clay, who's been listening to my story with a mix of amazement and skepticism, speaks up again.
"So, you came up with the idea of using Repulsion for defense? It's like adding 'can't be killed' to 'won't die'."
"Yeah. I think I learned it during the Nightfather incident, but it took me a while."
"But if you become too invincible, the difficulty of battles will decrease, right?"
"That's true, I'm that kind of person."
With Clay looking at me in awe, we begin our training.
"What should I do, Wade-kun?"
"Hit me with all your might. I'll use Repulsion to defend myself."
"Got it. Let's try it out quickly."
Clay clenches his fist. Without chanting any curse words, dirt starts gathering around his fist from who-knows-where.
If I don't defend properly, my upper body will probably get blown away. I let out a wry smile and muttered.
"Brahma=Atman."
As I whisper the mantra, my battle preparations are complete in an instant. My heart, eyes, and brain――the 3 types of chakras――are all connected, and I activate my gravity magic, Weight Increase, Weight Reduce, and Repulsion, all at once.
I focus on the Repulsion magic and give a sly smile.
"Come on."
"Then―――I'll not holding back."
Clay takes a step forward. Thud, a sound echoes, and his leading foot sinks into the ground.
The fist that's released is gigantic.
Boom! The earth is overturned, and the giant fist is wrapped around it, unleashing Clay's attack. It's a giant fist made of earth.
It stops right in front of me. Clay's fist approaches, but it's trembling and can't get any closer.
The repulsive force I'm emitting is strongly pushing Clay away.
"I see... it's definitely different with and without this, the difficulty of battle is completely different."
The moment Clay relaxes his strength, his fist is greatly repelled. The earth loses its role and disperses, disappearing.
I get the result I imagined, and I smile at Clay with a sense of relief.
"It feels good, doesn't it?"
"Yeah, Wade-kun. It's like my attack can't even get close. Even with a full-powered one-hit attack, it couldn't get past the range."
"Wouldn't it break if it's a serious attack?"
"Well, if I use a giant's Typhoon to hit it, it'd be different. But with this magic, you want to defend against surprise attacks."
This defense is more than enough. Clay says so, and I nod. Unconscious attacks won't be a problem if I deploy this [Repulsion Defense].
At least, I won't have to worry about having my internal organs devoured by a Demon sl*ve.
"..."
What's with this anxiety? It's ridiculous. It's not like I'd normally have my internal organs eaten.
"Haah..."
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing..."
I feel a little remorseful, thinking that I've been so defenseless until now.
Indeed, Ice has her ice soldiers, Toxy has her Hydra, and Sandra has her Swadistana Chakra, and everyone's defending against unconscious attacks. Mudi probably know something, but...
It's just me who's been caught off guard with weak defenses.
Anyway, this new technique is settled. Well, it's just a reuse of magic I already had.
Now it's just a matter of testing it in battle―――
As I think that, Clay mutters "ah".
"A magic beast is coming."
"Hm?"
I had sensed the presence, but since it was far away and weak, I had ignored it. However, that presence was now rapidly approaching us.
What emerged from the forest was a massive bear. It was charging towards us, its entire body covered in rune letters――a Rune Bear.
The Rune Bear's charge was about to hit us straight on. I had my Repulsion ability deployed, so I just stood there, waiting for it.
The impact was tremendous. At a distance just out of my reach, the Rune Bear was stopped dead in its tracks, as if it had hit a cushion.
And then, it was blown away.
The massive bear's body flew backward, as if it had been hit by a car. It crashed into the surrounding trees and collapsed, motionless.
As I confirmed the situation, I muttered to myself.
"I guess I got a perfect score operationally... ."
(Half-conscious) A complete defense against an attack from outside my awareness, with a counterattack function to boot. Wow, this is perfect. There's no way to top this.
I couldn't help but wonder if I had been using my abilities incorrectly until now. It's clear that this is more effective than just increasing my power.
I had finally brought out the true value of my magic...
As I thought this, Clay called out to me, saying, "By the way, Wade-kun."
"If we keep going at this speed, we'll probably reach the Demon King's city by today, right? Are you going to give a speech like last time?"
"Ah, yeah. I was planning to talk about a lot of things when we reach the Demon King's city."
I recalled what I needed to say and made a mental list.
What do I expect from the demons? How do I get through to them? What kind of fun can we have? I need to have a conversation that will control the demons' movements to some extent.
"This is Wade-kun's specialty, so I'm looking forward to it."
"I don't really think it's my specialty, but I'll do it like I always do."
I responded to Clay's encouragement, thinking about how I would start the conversation in my head.
