Volume 10 Chapter 12 What To Do From Here

I had finished observing from the top floor of the tower, arms crossed, and said, "I see."

"That battle between those 2 was quite something. I think I've grasped the general idea. And it looks like the main goal of this fishing expedition has been almost achieved."

"...Uh, Master. It's the sea, you know. We're only barely surviving here in the tower, and it's all ocean out there..."

Renril said, gazing out the window at the raging sea. His face was pale. I couldn't blame him for feeling that way.

"Yeah, but I can fly, so it's all good."

"True. When you think about it, it's quite impressive."

Renril nodded quickly. He's a big deal, too, I thought.

Just then, Renril let out a loud "Whoa!" and I looked to see Clay climbing in through the window.

"Hey, Wade-kun and Renril-kun. Did you guys watch that battle?"

"Yeah, I did. It was intense, wasn't it? I had a blast watching it."

"Yeah, it was. And Ede Wolf, minus Don Fen, has been destroyed. Now all we have to do is take down Poseidon, and you guys can take care of Don Fen."

"We can't let our guard down or they'll rise up again."

As I said that, I remembered something.

"Ah, by the way, if the Demon King's army doesn't come back in this situation, maybe we can somehow...bury them alive? We should take this chance to lift the protection on Demon King Castle."

I turned to Sur, who was standing by the wall, and said, "You've done well, Sur."

The protective magic was released from the tower, but the surroundings were still a raging sea. There was no sign of the Demon King's army.

"Sur, you've done great work. Everything's gone smoothly so far."

I said with a grin, but Renril and Sur shook their heads vigorously, saying "No, no, no!"

"This is just the beginning, Master. We still have to deal with those 2 monsters, and we can't let our guard down."

"That's right, Wade-sama. Look at this raging sea. What is the sea, anyway? This is Nilfheim, a land of eternal snow and ice."

I was told by the two of them, so I said, "No way, that's just for fun, right, Clay?" seeking his agreement. Clay smiled and said, "Sorry, guys. Wade-kun is always like this." Huh?

"Well, whatever. Clay, do you know what's going on with Ice and the others?"

 "I don't know about Ice-san, but I heard a bit from Toxy-san, who's flying around."

"Toxy, you mean the one in charge of Hygieia? Toxy's magic seal is the poisonous goddess, right?"

When I said that, Clay nodded.

"That's right. Poseidon is thinking that if things keep going like this, the next one to clash with Hygieia won't be us."

"Oh, so it's better to observe and then challenge?"

In my opinion, Clay replied, "No, this is something we absolutely must stop."

 "Why's that?"

"Hygieia's manifestation is more unpredictable than expected. Look, you can see the toxic mist from here, right? If you focus your eyes, you can see the filthy sludge acc*mulating below."

 "Ugh, that's disgusting. Gross."

"I heard from Toxy-san while we were evacuating that Hygieia is mixed in with that sludge. And Poseidon is the god of the sea, which means he's also the god of liquids."

Hmm? I felt a bad premonition.

 "Is something not right?"

"I think your premonition is correct. It's likely that the clash between Poseidon and Hygieia will lead to an unimaginable situation. For example, if—"

Clay said with a sarcastic tone.

"What do you think would happen if this chaotic sea became entirely Hygieia?"

Silence. I, Renril, and Sur all had tense expressions, our mouths shut tight.

 I barely managed to answer.

"...I don't get it at all..."

"That's right. We don't understand anything. That's the kind of situation it'll become. If things go wrong, even the Bazaar or Circus might get destroyed. Just hearing that might make it easier to attack the Demon King's castle, but the demons who can take down and maintain the protection towers will probably become almost extinct."

The possibility of things going well is not 0, but it's a pretty big gamble. If we're in a tight spot, it's worth taking a risk, but since things are going smoothly now, there's no point in taking action.

"Then, we need to take down the god before the intense battle starts."

"Yeah, that's right. Especially Poseidon's Domain Control, it's expanding its range at an incredible rate. That's a power that can bring down a country. It's terrifying, even considering it's not from the Greek mythology realm."

Zap! With that intense sound, I look out the window and notice the water level has risen significantly. We need to take action fast.

"Alright, Clay, I'm counting on you. If things go as planned, you'll be the one to take down Poseidon."

When I say that, Clay gives a proud smile and says, "I'm honored to be your power." "I'm counting on you," I say, and we exchange a light fist bump.

Clay's expression turns serious, and he says,

"Then, Sur-san, let's go. It's better if we finish our job quickly."

 "I'm grateful, Clay-sama. Then, Wade-sama, Renril-kun, excuse me."

Clay takes the lead and jumps out the window, with Sur following close behind. Immediately, Clay summons Typhon and starts to stir up the sea.

"Alright, then we'll go search for Don Fen too."

"Yeah, that's right, Master. ...But, somehow, it seems like we've gotten ourselves into a bad situation, with that god's summoning."

Renril looks at the distant, toxic fog and muddy waters with a bitter expression.

"If we open it, it'll just be a bad hand. And it looks like it'll be a real pain."

I try to reassure Renril, who looks unhappy, saying, "Don't say that."

"Originally, our plan was to summon an uncontrollable evil god, a bold move like that. And if Poseidon didn't work out, we could've achieved our goal through Hygieia's side."

 In other words, I continue,

"Summoning an evil god was a gamble from the start. Poseidon's success was just one possibility, and the others were also summoned as possibilities. At that point, it's not a waste."

 "...Is that so?"

 "Yeah. And besides―――."

I narrow my eyes, gazing at the poisonous mist.

"It's terrifying, but our unknown goal behind the summoning and subjugation will be achieved."

 "...What do you mean?"

"Well, either way, I'll just believe in my family."

When I say that, Renril's expression softens, and he nods, saying "That's right."

"No matter what happens, I can only believe in my family."

"What's with you, Renril? You're more sister-obsessed than I thought."

"No, I'm just a useless older brother who couldn't do much for my family."

Renril says, looking down. When I blink, Renril continues, "Anyway..."

"No matter what happens, family is important, that's all."

 "That's true."

"Let's go," I tell Renril, and I put my hand on the window.
