Volume 7 Chapter 8 Arrival At Margrave Birk Territory
After several days, we finally arrived at Margrave Birk Territory.
"We're finally here~!"
"We're here~!"
Moruru and I got off the carriage, stretched our bodies, and let out a sigh. Sylvia saw us and laughed, saying, "You 2 have the same movements."
"That's because we're family, after all."
"We're family, after all!"
"Okay, okay. Let's get our luggage to the inn."
We were in front of an inn located in a high-class residential area in Margrave Birk Territory.
Thanks to Alex's arrangements, we had already booked the entire inn. So, we all worked together to carry our luggage from the carriage.
"Ridge, you're working hard. You never used to do this kind of thing before."
"Arrogance will be your downfall, isn't that what you taught me, Wade-sama?"
"That's certainly true."
Her small body was busily carrying small luggage, which was somehow adorable to watch. Moruru, on the other hand, was carrying large luggage that was about twice my size, which was impressive.
"Besides, I can't act arrogant in a situation like this. I have a blacksmith who has made legendary swords for a few nobles. Though I can't do anything about it in Windy"
"Windy, you're being dissed by your young lady."
"Please treat me like a dog."
"Well, you're smiling nicely."
Windy, with an androgynous face, smiled brightly. If only what they said was true....
"Still, I'm honored to be able to participate in this gathering. Thank you for not killing me back then, Wade-sama."
Windy bowed their head, then looked at me with strong eyes.
"I'll do my best to assist you, even if it's just a little. I'll do my best, even if it's just a small amount."
"The Windy back then was quite intimidating, wasn't it?"
"Don't joke about it. Being toyed with like that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me."
"That's a weak thing to say."
We chatted lightly as we carried our luggage to our respective rooms.
The rooms were basically paired up. It was me and Moruru, Ridge and Windy, Sylvia and Gold, and Roman was alone, that's how it was.
"There's a possibility of an attack depending on the situation. Non-combatants should room with someone who can fight."
Roman told us, and we decided on this room arrangement considering our relationships. Sylvia looked unhappy, but Gold was carefree as usual.
"Hey, if we're going to be here for a while, should we go shopping or something?"
I suggested, and Moruru said "Let's go!", Gold said "I'll come along!", Sylvia said "I'll come too!", and Windy said "Please let me carry the luggage!"
"Are Roman and Ridge okay with this?"
"I'm the local collaborator, and I have a meeting with someone here, so I can't split myself in two even if I was loved by God."
"I'm a bit tired, so I'll take a rest... Windy, follow Wade-sama's instructions."
"Yes, young lady."
That's how it was. With Roman around, we felt safe no matter what, so we decided to head out.
The high-class residential area's inn was like a high-class hotel, with stone floors that made us feel like we were walking on clouds. Everyone on the street was well-dressed.
I, who was more used to Karditsa's cold winds, felt a slightly warmer breeze, and it really hit me that I was in a foreign land.
"What's wrong, Wade? You look weird."
"Gold, it's not a big deal, but... this is my first time leaving Karditsa."
"Ah... yeah, that's true. I feel a bit strange too."
"Yeah."
We chatted casually as we started walking. We followed the map the innkeeper gave us, heading towards the market.
"Hey, isn't that...?"
The market was bustling in a way that was slightly different from Karditsa. Karditsa had a main street with tightly packed shops, but here, there were many street vendors.
It was like a Japanese festival or a bazaar, with small stalls set up in a small plaza, calling out to passersby.
When I see something like this, my tension rises, and it seems like everyone else's does too. Moruru's eyes sparkle as she pulls on my clothes.
"Papa! Over there! I want to eat that snack!"
"Ah, okay. Let's take a look around first, and then we can decide what we need to buy."
When I call out, the siblings and Windy nod in agreement. I hold hands with Moruru and we excitedly charge into the bazaar.
During that time, we passed by a mysterious trio with a unique aura.
I didn't notice them when they were right in front of me, but the moment we passed each other, I suddenly became aware of their presence within a certain distance.
The young man leading the group had a long bandage wrapped around his eyes, and he wore a worn, gray knight's uniform. Behind him followed a woman with an astonishing beauty, and a young girl.
Our encounter was just for a moment. So, I was left speechless by the huge impact it had on me.
That's when Sylvia spoke up.
"Wow, that was amazing. Did you see those people? The 2 behind him had long ears!"
"Yeah, I've never seen them before. I've heard stories about how they used to be sl*ves in the upper class, but..."
The 2 of them talked with an air of having seen something rare. Moruru and I tilted our heads, asking "Gold, do you know about them?"
Gold, with a completely uninterested tone, said:
"They're elves. Since the Roman Emperor prohibited the treatment of non-humans as sl*ves, they've become a rare sight."
If that's the case, I'd like to meet a dwarf. But Gold's explanation was so nonchalant that I couldn't help but mutter, "So, there are elves in this world..."
But that's a minor thing. The 2 people behind him were probably not ordinary, but compared to the one leading them, they were insignificant.
"...Papa?"
Moruru called out to me, noticing the tension in my expression. I relaxed my face, and then gently stroked Moruru's head.
"It's okay, I'm not angry. It's just..."
I looked back, but the shadow of those 3 people had already disappeared.
"That's our enemy for this time, 'Oath', I just thought that."
Those guys must have noticed me too. But for now, neither of us is ready, so we're just holding back.
Next time we meet, it'll definitely be a fight.
I need to get ready. Thinking that, I hurry along, saying "Let's get the shopping done quickly."
