Volume 5 Chapter 18 Bonding Party - Fighting Styles
After introductions were over, the course meal started to be served.
While eating, we talked about various things. For example, how Frain is domineering, how Kadras is always tired, and how Sylvia is gloomy.
On our side, we talked about how everyone was in despair until recently because I was too strong, and how I felt bad about feeling too responsible.
Just then, I suddenly remembered something and asked everyone.
"If we're going to work together, shouldn't we discuss our fighting styles? We know Frain and Sylvia's magic attributes, but we don't even know Kadras's magic attribute."
When I said that, Frain nodded and said, "Yeah, that's true. I don't want to get caught up in your big magic and die." What kind of position are we in?
Oh, but that's right. Toxy's sea of deadly poison is bad.
"Yeah, right. So, let's hear from Frain first."
"Huh? Why me?"
"...Well, ours is, well, there's no teamwork or anything, so that's the punchline."
"What the hell are you guys?"
Anyway, Frain starts talking.
"My recent fighting style is basically just to bombard from a distance with fire magic. It's not really that different from when I was just throwing fireballs. But the strategy has changed."
"This brat is so strong lately... He's got no gaps in close range, mid-range, or long range."
Frain seems to have gotten strong enough to get Kadras's approval. "Specifically?" I asked, and Frain explained.
"To put it simply with the magic I know now, I can use hand grenades, high-speed silent arrows, rapid-fire shooting, super long-range sniping, and shotguns. I also have one secret weapon, but I'm not going to tell you."
Frain, what? Is this guy the only one fighting like it's a modern gunfight?
Well, but then again, when I think about it, fireballs are just bombs, right? They're just heated balls of fire that explode when they hit the ground. The power increases as you grow, but it's just a bomb.
Still, that makes Frain pretty strong. Transformation magic is considered one of the stronger types of magic from the start, but Frain can fight like a modern soldier with machine guns, snipers, and shotguns.
And on top of all that, he has a secret weapon: powerful magic. He might be even as good as Windy. Maybe I shouldn't say this, but Frain is also a genius in his own right.
When I nodded in agreement, Kadras raised his hand and said, "Okay, I'm next."
"I've gotten a lot stronger since last time. Before, I just swung around 2 swords, but now―――"
Kadras pulled out 2 swords with sparkling decorations from under the table.
"Like this, my swords have become artifacts! They're artifacts with anti-magic magic, so they can cut through magic and even affect the opponent directly like you, boy."
"That's why Kadras is always the assault leader, not me, the leader of party."
"It's fitting for him. Kadras is a weakling unless it's close-quarters combat."
"Damn it!"
Kadras can only scream when he finds out that he's been given a tough role. He seems to be having a really hard time.
"By the way, doesn't Kadras use magic?"
"Oh..." Kadras scratched his head when Toxy tilted her head.
Frain started to explain.
"Kadras can't use magic for personal reasons. His magic seal is damaged."
"Oh... sorry."
"No, it's okay. It's natural to be curious. Well, there are people like that, you know."
Kadras shrugged and held out his right hand. There was a large × scar that had broken his magic seal.
"That's painful," I thought. "Sylvia opened her mouth, as if to push aside such sentimentality.
"Last, me. Well, I'm normal. I can only create weapons with iron magic. I can create swords, shields, and chains. ...Create Blade, Create Blade."
Two chants and Sylvia created 2 swords of different sizes. One was a dagger. The other was a longsword. Apparently, the same chant can produce different sizes. Just like Toxy.
I suddenly had an idea. Then Toxy spoke to me, "Hey, maybe you're thinking..."
"That rune magic might work well with this, right?"
"Haha, we think alike, Toxy."
"Ahahaha! Right, right! But I wonder if it's okay for us to teach them..."
"Well, it's okay to tell them about it. We can't really teach them how to use it anyway."
"That's true."
After talking, we went to Sylvia. Sylvia was looking at us with a strange expression.
"What, what?"
"Sylvia, lend me your dagger."
"...Okay, but..."
I took the dagger from Sylvia. I held it in my right hand and etched rune symbols on the palm of my left hand.
"Huh?"
"Hey, hey, boy? What are you doing?"
"Uh, what? Stop it, it's scary."
"Just watch."
I wrote 3 runes on my palm and showed them to Sylvia. The runes were very simple: 'power', 'sharpness', and 'strength'. Simple enhancement runes.
"Create a sword with these runes carved on the blade. And if you can, trace the symbols."
"...Okay. Create Blade."
Sylvia created another dagger. The runes were etched without any problems. And Sylvia traced the runes.
The blade was faintly enveloped in light. Sylvia blinked her eyes repeatedly.
"What, what's happening?"
"It's under the effect of rune magic, a different kind of magic than we usually use."
"I think it's become a stronger, sharper, and more powerful sword."
Sylvia furrowed her brow and pressed the rune-engraved dagger against the dagger she returned to me.
Then, slowly, as if cutting butter, the rune-engraved dagger cut through the normal dagger.
The severed blade, with a sharp clang, rolled onto the table.
"...Huh?"
"Huh?"
Sylvia was speechless, and Kadras's eyes widened.
Amidst the surprised silence, only Frain maintained a grim expression.
"You're not trying to rip us off with this technical jargon and take our hard-earned money, are you, Wade?"
"No way."
"B-But, Frain, this is really amazing. It opens up so many strategic possibilities."
"Hey, boy. Are you sure you don't want any money? This is seriously impressive."
Facing the two people's (Sylvia & Kadras) incredulous expressions, I smiled back.
"Well, one or two tips shouldn't be a problem. I mean, there's a ton of stuff to learn if you really want to master this, but I'm not going to teach you everything."
"Who knows this stuff?"
Sylvia was eager to learn more.
"I know a merchant named Alex who might know. You could probably buy rune magic textbooks with enough money from him."
"Oh, I see. I'll buy it. It's worth it."
Sylvia was visibly excited, her eyes sparkling like never before, despite her earlier dismissive attitude.
"So?"
Frain asked.
"Wade, you didn't just carve that palm wound to show off to Sylvia, did you? Stop playing coy and teach us already."
"Oh, come on, did you see right through me?"
Alright, let me show you quickly.
"'Brahma'"
I raised my palm towards everyone and uttered the incantation. My Anahata chakra activated, and the wound began to heal rapidly.
"Wow... I knew it was amazing, but it's still incredible."
Toxy's eyes widened in disbelief. But Frain's party had bigger surprises in restaurant.
"..."
"W-wait, boy? W-what just happened?"
"...y-your wound, it healed itself..."
Chuckling, I added.
"Basically, I've become a body that doesn't need to worry about injuries. My physical abilities have also improved, so just adjust accordingly when we're fighting together. If things get tough, just throw me into the fray and there's no problem."
The three of them were still stunned, and I couldn't help but smirk. As if sensing my secret amusement, Frain scoffed.
"I've made up my mind. ―――I'll never be surprised by anything you do again, Wade."
"I can't always react like these two idiots, can I?" Frain asks sarcastically, spreading his arms wide.
