Chapter 70 Showdown, Guardian Chimera

Chapter 70 Showdown, Guardian Chimera

In the depths of the underground sewer in the Rune Gaia Kingdom,

We are facing off against the mechanical beast summoned by the Apostles of Salvation, the Guardian Chimera.

"The metallic shell... It doesn't seem like it will be easily penetrated by ordinary attacks, Adel-sama."

"Yes. We don't know what kind of attacks it will unleash. Let's handle this carefully."

In response to my words, Maia, Teti, and Cress nod and prepare for battle.

According to Sicily, who has withdrawn, that thing is said to be an ancient relic... But why the Apostles of Salvation were holding onto something like that is a question for later.

 [Intruders detected. Initiating extermination protocol.]

The red eyes flash, and a mechanical voice resounds.

Immediately after, the Guardian Chimera kicks the cobblestones with its four legs and leaps towards us.

 "Quick, dodge!"

Maia flipped in mid-air to dodge the attack from the Guardian Chimera, then threw a short dagger.

However, it only made a dull metallic sound as it was deflected without piercing through.

"It's really tough... In that case—!"

Maia flipped her servant's uniform, pulling out another dagger from her skirt and landing it on the back of the Guardian Chimera.

At the same time, she thrust the sword into the gap of its scale-like outer shell.

 "We did it...?!"

 "No—"

Teti exclaimed, causing the Guardian Chimera to momentarily hesitate, trying to shake off Maia who was on its back.

 "Ugh—"

I dashed forward, catching Maia in mid-air just before she was about to be slammed onto the ground.

The Guardian Chimera attempted to launch a counterattack, but was stopped by Teti and Cress.

 "Yaaah!"

 "Haaah—!"

Teti used her enhanced fists from the job ability [Divine Wolf], while Cress attacked the gaps in the outer shell with a thrusting sword.

Although they didn't manage to defeat the Guardian Chimera, they succeeded in blocking its counterattacks.

I took that opportunity to step back and spoke to Maia in my arms.

 "Maia, are you okay?"

"Uh, yeah. But it might be a bit too stimulating..."

Hmm... Even though it was a split-second decision, maybe I hugged her a bit too tightly.

I gently put Maia down, but this time she looked somewhat disappointed.

"However, it's troublesome. With [Subspace Manipulation Magic], I might be able to take it down, but hitting it at that speed is difficult."

"Yes, with Adel-sama's Igarima, we might be able to cut through, but Adel-sama can't summon it against a machine that lacks an Execution Coefficient..."

In the recent battle, I learned that physical attacks are not very effective.

Even stabbing a sword through the outer shell didn't deliver a decisive blow.

 In that case――

The Guardian Chimera, facing us at a distance, tried to shake off its long tail.

Evading that attack by leaping, I instantly displayed a pale blue string of characters.

"Chains that Bind Even Gods, activate—"

Golden iron chains appeared from the sky and entwined around the Guardian Chimera, sealing its movements.

Despite its struggles to escape, all that could be heard was the sound of metal rubbing against metal.

Without delay, I attempted to use another ability.

――If physical attacks don't work, then it's time for magic.

 "Purple Lightning Summon—"

 ――Whirr!?

The purple lightning summoned by a job ability that controls spirits coursed through the Guardian Chimera's body, causing it to thrash violently.

As the sound subsided, the Guardian Chimera collapsed onto the stone pavement.

[The critical damage occurred to the propulsion system. Functions are now offline――]

Such a mechanical sound echoed around, and the red eyes of the Guardian Chimera had also disappeared.

 "You did it, Adel-sama!"

"Yes. It's good that I managed to take it down without using (Subspace Manipulation Magic). Now we can investigate various things."

"You were thinking about such things while fighting against such a formidable enemy..."

 "Adel, as expected."

We exchanged words with Cress and Teti, who ran up to us, and praised each other's efforts.

We are curious about why the (Apostles of Salvation) had such a thing, and we are also concerned about the mysterious stone left behind by the departed Sicily.

But for now, rescuing the kidnapped people is the priority.

With that in mind, we decided to investigate the hideout of the Apostles of Salvation.
