Chapter 69 Reunion with Sicily Grandor

Chapter 69 Reunion With Sicily Grandor

 "It's been a while, Black-Robed Executor-san. I'm glad to see you again."

Deep within the underground sewer system, in the stronghold of the Apostles of Salvation, stood a girl wearing a large witch hat - Sicily Grandor.

 "What are you doing here?"

"Haha. I got lost while taking a walk, you see."

Sicily replied to my question with a mischievous smile.

I doubt she really expected me to believe such a joke, but she seemed genuinely amused.

Despite her youthful appearance, she exuded a mysterious aura that was hard to grasp. The enigmatic impression she gave off was just as it was when we first met.

 "You are..."

"Oh, so the Princess of Rune Gaia was with you. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you, is it? You seemed to know about Cress when we met before."

 "Yes, it's our first meeting."

Sicily's cryptic words made me and Cress exchange glances.

Last time we met, we were prepared for a fight, especially after being attacked by a golem...

But it seems like there's no hostility towards us now.

...Could it be that what Sicily said was just playful banter?

Seeing Sicily acting nonchalant, Maia and Teti also seemed to relax.

"Sicily-san, what are you really doing here?"

"Hello, young lady maid. Just punishing those who are up to no good."

As Sicily spoke, she pointed to the group of people in red robes lying on the side.

Teti looked at her with doubt.

"So, you attacked them because the Apostles of Salvation were doing something bad? Like what will Adel would do?"

"I'm not doing anything as impressive as the Black-Robed Executor-san. I'm just doing it for my own purpose."

 "For your purpose?"

 "Yes."

 "That is—"

Just as Teti was about to ask further.

"Intruders... You will regret laying a hand on us..."

A man from the Apostles of Salvation who had collapsed next to Sicily muttered and pressed some kind of switch before fainting.

 ――Rumble, rumble.

 "What's that? From the wall..."

"I thought it wasn't there, but it was hidden... Troublesome."

Sicily grumbled and looked at the wall where the sound came from.

 And then—

 ――BANG!

Breaking through the stone wall, a giant weapon emerged from there.

No, it looked more like a magic beast than a weapon.

The creature with three heads like a monster on four legs, its red, blinking eyes turned towards us.

It was covered in a shell that looked like a mix of metal and mirror in some places.

I heard Sicily next to me click her tongue at the sight.

"Sicily, do you know what that is?"

"That's a mechanical beast - the Guardian Chimera."

"Mechanical? But, I've never heard of something so elaborate and sophisticated still functioning in this day and age..."

"That's true. It's a relic from a civilization that is said to have perished long ago."

Sicily said with a narrowed gaze.

Sicily is a demon. I think she knows something about ancient civilizations too.

"Why would the Apostles of Salvation have such ancient relics... But, it seems we don't have time to talk leisurely now."

"That's right. I really wanted to talk a bit more with you, Black-Robed Executor-san, but it's a shame."

Saying that, Sicily turned her back to us and distanced herself.

 "Hey."

 "Well then, see you later."

"Why? Weren't you here to wipe out the Apostles of Salvation?"

"Haha. That's true, but I've already weakened them enough."

 "..."

"Besides, dealing with that one seems tough. I'll leave it to you, Black-Robed Executor-san."

Sicily said, "Oh, right," and turned towards us.

 "Black-Robed Executor-san. Take this."

Sicily tossed over a black stone.

It had a glossy surface like black crystal, and strangely, it didn't feel hot.

 "...What is this?"

"If you have this, I'm sure we'll meet again."

 I don't understand...

 "And also, Princess."

 "Huh? Me?"

"Watch out for your big brother."

"For Zieg-oniisama? What does that mean..."

Cress asked Sicily a question, but she just smiled back without answering.

Just like when we first met, she disappeared as if melting into the ground.

"What was that all about, Adel-sama?"

"I don't know. I wish she wouldn't leave with such meaningful things."

I put the black stone I received from Sicily into my pocket and looked at the mechanical beast making a grating noise.

"Anyway, we need to deal with that thing now."

Everyone nodded at my words, facing off against the Guardian Chimera.
