Chapter 47 [Side Charles Vandale] - Beginning Of The Final Chapter
"Long time no see, King Charles."
Inside the royal palace, King Charles sat on his throne, looking down at the man who had come to visit.
"Are you well, Van?"
"Yes. I lost two children two years ago."
"I believe their names were Largo and Maia. It was a tragedy."
Van nodded at Charles' emotionless words.
However, one of the lost children is still alive...
But for Van, the head of the assassin family, it was a trivial matter.
Right now, the most important thing was to ask why he had been summoned by the king.
"So, King Charles. What is the matter? Is it about an assassination request?"
"Exactly. I want you to assassinate the Black-Robed Executor. The reward will be generous."
"The Black-Robed Executor, you say..."
When Van heard about Charles' request, he hesitated.
He remembered the immense power of the Black-Robed Executor from two years ago.
"But Charles, why the Black-Robed Executor...?"
"Lately, he's been causing trouble, causing delays in our plans."
"It seems those who were taken down by the Black-Robed Executor were involved in our plans?"
"Yes. That's why I want you to assassinate him. It may only have a minor impact on our plans, but I can't stand by and let him buzz around like a fly."
There were two lies in Charles' words.
One was about the minor impact of Adel, the Black-Robed Executor's actions on the plan.
It was a crucial element for Charles' plan for total domination of humanity.
Funds, personnel, resources, and so on.
In all these aspects, his sources are being systematically dismantled one by one.
However, even though Adel didn't intend it, that was the case.
As a result, Charles ended up owing a favor to Marc Richard, with whom he had a cooperative relationship.
Thanks to Marc providing a "substitute," the plan was able to return to its original course.
However, for the proud Charles, relying on others and bowing his head was something he couldn't accept.
The second point is that a significant portion of the reason for this assassination request is due to personal grudges.
The actions of the Black-Robed Executor inadvertently dealt a blow to Charles' plan for global domination of humanity.
For Charles, this was the ultimate humiliation.
Two years ago, how could he accept that the person he had declared incompetent and even exiled has now become his greatest obstacle?
If that's the case..., if that's the case, it would mean that he was incredibly foolish, wouldn't it?
Yes.
The request to assassinate Adel is not for the sake of the plan.
It's merely an act to protect Charles' pride.
"What, it's simple. Just get rid of the Black-Robed Executor easily."
Charles said, lying once again.
Charles is vaguely aware of the strength of the Black-Robed Executor through Marc's report.
However, he expressed it as simple due to his vanity.
"I'm sorry, but I cannot accept this request, King Charles."
"Why not? It should be easy for you, Van."
"No. The strength of the Black-Robed Executor is real. Perhaps, among the people I have encountered, he stands out. King Charles, you must have noticed that too, right?"
"..."
Van's words were unforgivable to Charles because among the "people he had met" that Van mentioned, Charles himself was included.
Charles tightly gripped the armrest of the throne.
"I will not do work that is not worth it. With that, King Charles, I take my leave."
As Van was about to turn on his heel and leave, Charles suddenly stood up from the throne and dashed towards Van.
――Clang!
Van barely managed to respond to Charles's attack with his drawn sword.
"Ugh... King Charles, what in the world...!?"
"Silence. I will have you take on this assassination request, Van."
"W-What..."
Though they were in a standoff, Charles's ability as a [Silver Sword Saint] was not to be underestimated.
He effortlessly deflected the dagger Van held, destabilizing him and putting him in a position where Charles was on top.
And then, Charles took out a bottle filled with liquid and tried to pour it into Van's mouth.
"Now, taste it well."
"T-That is... (Droplet of Soma)...! Ugh...!!"
A liquid that controls people's minds.
Charles made Van drink it.
Then, Van's eyes started turning red.
"G-Gaah! A-Ahh..."
"Now, Van. Assassinate the Black-Robed Executor."
"...Under, stood."
Seeing Van's obedient attitude, Charles smirked.
"Huh? Didn't I say it's better not to mess with the Black-Robed Executor?"
With words like that of a young boy, Marc Richard appeared.
Charles snorted disinterestedly and responded to the question.
"I'm not actually going to take action myself. I'll just use pawns. Besides, I can't leave the palace right now. Marc, you too."
"Yeah, I get it."
"If he can defeat Adel... If he can defeat the Black-Robed Executor, that would be great. Even if not――"
"Even if not?"
"If we can carry out the plan, we win."
Saying that, Charles smirked in triumph.
By saying those words and acquiring the puppet named Van in front of him, Charles seemed to regain some of his self-esteem.
"That's right, what am I afraid of? I am a king. And I am the ruler of the new world!"
"..."
"Now, Van! Start by killing the Black-Robed Executor!"
With a smile on Marc's face, Charles loudly exclaimed.
"The completion of the plan is near. Let's begin the final chapter...!!"
Charles spread his arms wide and declared beside him,
"That's right. Now, dance, foolish king. In order to fulfill my long-cherished desire――"
The words Marc muttered quietly did not reach Charles.
