Volume 6 Chapter 63 Side Braver Xvii — The Brave Ones Who Were Turned Away At The Gate

The Brave group arrived at Sanmoto after crossing the sea.

Their goal was to reclaim the treasure 'Keystone of the Hour' stolen by demons from the Lunatis Kingdom and to protect the seal of the 'disaster' that exists somewhere in Sanmoto.

While they were captivated by the unique scenery, unlike any country they had visited before, Relix and the others hurried to the capital of Sanmoto, 'Kougo.'

First and foremost, they needed to contact the rulers, the 'Egawa shogun family.'

But there, Relix and his friends would face a delay that was, in a way, expected.

"You again. No matter how many times you try, the result will be the same."

The armored gatekeeper looked at the 4 of them with suspicious eyes.

Behind him stood the heavy double doors.

Beyond that, a castle towered high, visible from anywhere in the Kougo town.

Its style was completely different from Blesstia and other countries, but it still had a majestic presence.

"The shogun family would never meet with unknown 'outsiders' like you. Especially if you can't even state your business. Go away, go away."

The gatekeeper waved his hand, trying to shoo them away.

Even if they pushed back, they would only leave a bad impression, so they could only watch silently as the gatekeeper closed the small door for entry beside the big gate and walked away.

Standing before the imposing gate, Relix gritted his teeth.

"Damn it, what should we do? There's no way to talk when they won't even let us in."

Relix felt the urge to bang on the door, but he only clenched his fists.

The impulse to act, which he would normally never have, was only because the group had been wasting their time.

 This wasn't the first time.

Since arriving in Kougo, Relix had hoped to meet the shogun family, but they had been turned away at the gate many times.

Now, that count had just increased by one more.

Until now, Relix and the others had a noble purpose as Brave, and they had some achievements that were known in many places, so it wasn't too hard, though it took some time, to connect with the important people in the country.

Being well-behaved and polite, if they rejected a group that lived up to the name Brave, it could raise suspicion that they had something to hide.

But in Sanmoto, across the sea, that wasn't the case.

There were no rumors or news guaranteeing the safety of Relix and the others.

In other words, to the royal family of Sanmoto──the shogun family──they were just sudden outsiders.

If you look at it objectively, the guards' response made sense.

When a group that clearly looks like foreign outsiders suddenly says, "We want to meet the Shogun," if the guard nods and immediately lets them through, it would make their skill as a guard questionable.

A career change would be recommended soon.

"Unlike the countries influenced by Arcus, Sanmoto is almost an isolated island nation. I've heard about it, but I didn't really feel it until we were literally turned away at the gate."

Relix could only show a stern expression at Mayuri's words of despair.

Though they hadn't forgotten, this made them realize how much they had relied on their position and reputation as Braver.

"I guess having connections is important in every country."

Next to the anxious Relix, the monk Shion shrugged.

Shion didn't look as down as Brave; he had already predicted this outcome.

"It sounds realistic when someone experienced who joined Brave says that their networking skills are lacking."

"Hey, Gabert-san. That way of saying it..."

 "No, no, Mayuri-san. He's right."

It was Shion himself who calmed Mayuri by patting her shoulder.

He also coolly deflected Gabert's sarcasm.

"Well, if I had to deal with annoying networking, I'd much rather have a big party instead."

"Oh, here it comes. Shion's scheming priest comment!"

Shion, a skilled user of healing magic and a talented priest, actually had a side that was quite worldly.

During the journey, he often took the chance to drink heavily with Gabert and sometimes secretly buy women, showing a rather scheming priest side.

He was said to have been demoted and sent to a remote area due to losing power struggles in the Church, but this shameless worldly behavior, along with his lack of connections, was probably a big reason too.

Still, the Church, which preferred clean living, did not excommunicate him.

In fact, they even recommended him to join Brave's group, showing just how valuable Shion was to the organization.

"Anyway, it won't help to just stand here. I thought things might change if I visited a few times, but judging by today, it will probably have the opposite effect. It's about time to think of the next plan."

In fact, Shion was not just a valuable user of healing magic in battle; he had also become an essential presence in planning strategies and negotiations during their travels.

While Mayuri had extensive knowledge, it was Shion who found ways to use that knowledge effectively.
