Volume 4 Chapter 7-2 The Potion Master Exiled from the The Black Alchemist Guild V
"Ugh...!"
Bakuman couldn't say anything back.
No matter how many words he strung together, the fact that he had failed remained.
"You didn't notice Shawn's talent, didn't acknowledge his efforts, and thought you succeeded in driving him out. But he was the backbone of the Guild all along. HOW UTTERLY FOOLISH YOU ARE."
"Ugh..."
As the truths were piled up against him, Bakuman remained silent.
Watching this, Shawn started to feel a bit sorry for him.
"You want to come crawling back now that you've realized his talent? AREN'T YOU ASHAMED?"
"Ah, um... Guildmaster...?"
Shawn hesitantly raised his hand.
"Don't you think... you're going a bit too far?"
"Hmph... are you trying to provoke me?"
Act said, narrowing his eyes.
Shawn trembled with fear, but shook his head slowly.
"I'm not trying to argue with you. It's just... you don't have to keep rubbing in the mistake. EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES, after all."
"Shawn... you..."
This boy didn't actually harbor any resentment towards Bakuman.
"Why are you defending this guy? He's the one who CRUELLY kicked you out."
When asked by Act, Shawn clearly stated his thoughts.
"Certainly, the expulsion was UNFAIR... but after my grandfather died, it was Mr. Bakuman who took me in when I had nowhere else to go."
"...Shawn"
Shawn's sense of gratitude towards the Guildmaster was evident.
Bakuman was shaken by his kindness.
And he genuinely regretted having driven him out.
"...I'm sorry"
"Mr. Bakuman..."
Act looked at both of them, sighed, and then spoke.
"Shawn. YOU'RE FIRED. LEAVE BY TODAY."
"Wha...!?"
The sudden dismissal shocked Shawn, and even Bakuman was taken aback.
"WHY IS SHAWN BEING FIRED!"
Bakuman pressed further.
Meanwhile, Act replied coolly.
"Why are you ANGRY?"
"Shut up! Tell me why!"
"It's decided. He's... no longer needed."
"Not needed... that's..."
Shawn feels SAD.
He throws him away because he doesn't need him anymore.
It was the same as what Bakuman did.
For him, Act that he picked up touched a part of his heart that was already hurting.
Shawn bites his lip tightly, and Bakuman raises his voice.
"Don't joke! JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T NEED HIM ANYMORE, YOU KICK HIM OUT! IS THAT CRUELTY ALLOWED?"
Those words came from his heart.
"...Ah"
Then Bakuman finally realizes.
How foolish what he did was.
How much it hurts to be cast out...
By opening his heart to Shawn, he understood.
"FINALLY, YOU'VE REALIZED, YOU FOOL."
Act takes the 'Notice of Termination' from his pocket and throws it to Shawn.
"YOU'RE FIRED. But I've prepared your next job. Go there."
"Th-this is..."
The new job is Jewel of Honor.
That's Bakuman's Guild.
"I'll also give you the deed. A farewell gift. From today, the Guildmaster is Shawn, that's you."
"Me, Guildmaster!?"
Shawn's eyes widen in surprise, and Act speaks.
"Yeah. So, it's up to you whether to pick up that trash or not."
Trash, meaning Bakuman.
"Mr. Bakuman..."
Shawn bows his head sincerely.
"Please, work with me!"
"Shawn..."
"I can't run the Guild by myself! So... let's work together!"
Even though he was abandoned, this boy was still so kind...
Bakuman regrets.
For casting out this kind-hearted boy.
And... never wanting to hurt him again.
"Yeah, I got it. I'll follow you and support you."
"Yes! Thank you!"
Shawn turns to Act and bows his head.
"Thank you very much, Mr. Act!"
"What's with that suddenly?"
"This... all of it was Mr. Act's scenario. To make me and Mr. Bakuman reconcile..."
Act snorts and flares his nostrils.
"Don't get it wrong. I'm only busy with the Adventurers Guild. I don't need the Alchemy Guild. I only gave you the boot because you're useless. Picking up trash was your choice. There's no thanks for that."
Shawn answers with a smile, like he's not bothered.
"Sure enough, the Guildmaster is such a kind person!"
