Volume 3 Chapter 1 The Villainous Guildmaster, Expelling the Guild Member

It had been about a month since my former subordinate, Lawrence, and the others had exterminated the Four Heavenly Kings, Jacky.

On one day in early summer.

In my room as the Guildmaster of Heaven's Gift Original Stone.

"Marcus, you're fired. Get out of this guild."

A guild member stood in front of me.

I told him he was fired.

"Wh, what? You mean I'm expelled? Why?!"

 Marcus shouted, his face pale.

He seemed surprised to be expelled.

"Think back on everything since you joined the guild."

"...Certainly, I was expelled from my last guild for the unreasonable reason that I was a commoner."

Many guilds hold the view of excluding commoners.

"But you're the one who took me in! I intended to work hard for you!"

"Yeah, you worked hard. It's been tough on you. But you don't have to come anymore."

"Th, then, what am I supposed to do...?"

To the disheartened Marcus, I said,

"Starting tomorrow, go to the Royal Healing Hospital."

"It's tough to be jobless at my age. I have a wife and kids... Wait, what?"

 Marcus's eyes bulged.

 "Wh, what now?"

"Go to the healing hospital in the Royal Capital. The director there is looking for a skilled healer. Your skills should be fine."

"The healing hospital in the Royal Capital... isn't that the largest medical facility?"

"That's right. I've prepared a management position for you there. The pay will be 3 times what you're getting now. You should be able to provide a better life for your family than being an adventurer, right?"

It seemed that he didn't understand what I said at first.

But soon, Marcus started to tear up slowly.

 "Guildmaster... thank you so much."

Marcus said while wiping his eyes.

"You didn't just think of me, but even my family... you really helped us by allowing this."

Good grief, it looked like Marcus was misunderstanding something.

 "It's not for you."

 "Huh?"

"I wanted to owe a favor to the clinic. I decided to send you, a talented person, there. I'm just using you. No need for thanks."

Marcus looked stunned, confusion growing on his face.

"Honestly, Master, you're the same as always."

The maid in the back, wearing a maid outfit, sighed.

With her silver hair and sharp eyes, this is my personal maid, Frederica.

"Sir Marcus, here are the documents."

Frederica handed him a tea envelope.

Inside were papers about the employment conditions and my letter of recommendation.

"Master's words are just to hide his shyness. Please, don't take it to heart."

 "I-I see..."

"No, don't say unnecessary things, you dumb dog."

Frederica is actually the legendary beast, the Ice Demon Wolf (Fenrir).

She usually disguises herself as a human.

 "Guildmaster... really, REALLY, thank you!"

 BAM!

 Marcus bowed deeply.

"I'll work hard over there! I'll do my best to make my family comfortable. And... someday, I'll repay you!"

"I see. I'm looking forward to it."

 "Yes...! Excuse me!"

With a bright expression, Marcus left the room.

 "Well done!"

Just as I got thirsty, Frederica put a cold coffee in front of me.

 "I didn't order this."

"A top-class maid senses her master's thirst and serves drinks just when they're needed."

 "Is that so?"

 "...Master."

Suddenly, Frederica's dog tail and ears popped out.

 They drooped down sadly.

 "Thank you."

I ruffled the dumb dog's head.

"No, I just did what I had to do. I'm your dedicated maid!"

Twitch, twitch, her ears and tail wagged.

Oh boy, taking care of a dog isn't easy.

"But Master, I'm sorry to interrupt your relaxing time, but we have a busy schedule for the next banishments."

 "Right, I remember."

I received the list from Frederica.

A long line of people scheduled for banishment.

"There are a lot more Guild Members now, especially lately."

"It's probably because of Hero Lawrence's achievements that the Guild's reputation is rising."

Lawrence used to belong to my Guild.

Now he's left to travel with his friends to defeat the Demon King.

"The more the Great Hero shines, the more your skills and the Guild are praised, Master. You really planned ahead when you banished him, didn't you?"

"Of course. I'm doing all this for my own sake."

Banishing Guild Members brings me closer to my ambitions.

In other words, I'm using them for my own gain...

"Even today, I wonder why they THANK me."

 "Well, who knows?"

 Frederica sighed, sounding exasperated.

 "What's with that attitude?"

"Oh, nothing. Just thinking how you're still the same Master."

 "Hmph."

"If you don't like it, will you banish me?"

Frederica said with a laugh, as if testing me.

"Don't be silly. It's too early to kick you out. I plan to use you even more."

"Yes, I'd be happy to! Master, Master!"

With no one watching, Frederica hugged my head tightly.

 "You're so annoying."

 "Isn't it nice~?"

She's usually cool, but for some reason, she acts all playful in front of me.

Well, she is a dog, so she probably wants attention from her master.

"But Master, with Lawrence's success, the number of Guild Members has increased... there's one problem."

"The Guild is getting cramped, isn't it?"

"Yeah. At first, Gem of Heavenly Gift had just a few elite members... actually, the number of people coming in and going out was pretty much equal."

"But recently, there are more people wanting to join than leave."

 "What shall we do?"

 "I've already got a plan."

I pull out some papers from my drawer and plop them down on the desk with a soft thud.

Frederica picks them up, looks them over, and murmurs, "I see," sounding impressed.

"As expected of the Master. Quick work! Well done!"

She claps her hands, pat, pat.

"But you know, instead of all this, why not just kick out half the Guild Members today?"

 "Don't be ridiculous."

I glare at Frederica as I say this.

"You can't just throw them out without finding their next job first."

Sure, anyone can kick people out of the Guild.

But that would ruin our reputation.

Plus, it takes me further away from my ambition.

"Exactly. Just tossing them out for no reason is something even a child could do. Instead, we should properly prepare their next steps before letting them go. You truly are the BEST Guildmaster."

I snort at Frederica, who's misunderstanding.

"Don't be stupid. I'm the villainous Guildmaster of the Adventurers Guild, kicking members out left and right."
