Volume 2 Chapter 39 The Hero, Teaching the Oni's Younger Sister
The Guildmaster Act protected Kanaho, who is related to the Demon King.
She was walking in the town with Hero Lawrence by the north wall.
"Wow! There are so many people, Lawrence!"
"YES! It's GREAT! Everyone looks HAPPY!"
The north wall town was once ruled by demons and was in ruins.
But now, the demons were gone, and humans could live safely in the town.
"Oh! Isn't that Mr. Lawrence?"
One of the townspeople noticed Lawrence and greeted him with a smile.
"HELLO!"
Lawrence replied loudly with a big smile.
"Oh, Mr. Lawrence, when did you get a child?"
"She is an important friend I'm taking care of from Mr. Act!"
"I'm Kanaho! Nice to meet you!"
Shy Kanaho had recently opened up to people.
The townspeople nodded at Kanaho's cheerful greeting.
"I see, she's a guest from Mr. Act."
"Do you know the Guildmaster?"
"Of COURSE! This town is LIVELY now thanks to Mr. Lawrence and the Hero Party, and Mr. Act's SUPPORT!"
Act sends not only money but also people to help this town.
He was the one who told Lawrence to make this town his base.
So, the townspeople trust Act a LOT.
"Even without the Guildmaster, it's AMAZING!"
"YES! Mr. Act is an AMAZING person!"
"AMAZING, AMAZING!"
"AMAZING, AMAZING!"
""Wahaha!""
Kanaho had completely warmed up to Lawrence.
She was being carried on his shoulders, walking through the town.
"Oh, Mr. Lawrence, good morning!"
"HMM! Good morning!"
"Hero! THANK YOU for protecting me from the demon the other day!"
"HMM! Glad to see you are doing WELL!"
As people walked by, they all greeted the golden Hero.
Lawrence returned their greetings kindly, one by one.
"Lawrence, you're POPULAR!"
"It makes me blush!"
Just then, as they walked along...
"HMM!"
Lawrence noticed a grandma crouching by the roadside.
"Are you OKAY, grandma?"
Lawrence approached and squatted down to ask.
"Oh dear Hero, please don't WORRY about me. I'm just a little tired, resting for a bit."
It didn't seem like she was injured or sick.
"I'm GLAD! Alright, I'll carry you home!"
The grandma's eyes went wide, and she shook her head.
"Oh NO, there's no need to TROUBLE yourself, Hero!"
"Don't WORRY about it! COME ON! GET ON!"
Surprised, but obedient, the grandma climbed onto Lawrence's back.
With Kanaho on his shoulders and the grandma on his back, he also carried her bags.
Despite the weight, Lawrence's body didn't wobble at all.
"Lawrence, you're so STRONG!"
"ALRIGHT, let's GO!"
Soon, he delivered the grandma safely home.
"I'm so SORRY!"
"Don't WORRY! Make sure to get plenty of rest!"
Waving goodbye to the grandma, Lawrence smiled and left.
Back on the main street, another person called out to him.
"Sir Lawrence, THANK YOU for mowing the grass the other day!"
"Yusha! THANKS for helping me find my cat the other day!"
The townsfolk all appreciated the Hero.
But it wasn't just for driving away monsters or demons.
They thanked him for carrying things and finding lost items, all small tasks.
Kanaho tilted her head, pondering over the Hero's actions.
After a bit...
Lawrence and the others arrived at the dining hall.
"YUM! DELICIOUS! Fried rice! So GOOD!"
The two at the table eat a huge amount of rice, gobbling it down.
Kanaho stares at Lawrence intently.
"HMM! What's WRONG, Kanaho?"
"Why do you help people, Lawrence?"
Lawrence tilts his head, thinking about Kanaho's question.
"Help? Did I do something?"
"Yeah. When you see someone in trouble, you help them. Even without being asked."
After that, he helped carry the goods of a merchant whose cart broke and returned a lost child to their mother.
But all of this was done by Lawrence without anyone asking him.
Kanaho found it strange.
Why does he help without being asked?
"That's because, [HELPING OTHERS HELPS YOU TOO]!"
"What does that MEAN?"
"It's a saying I learned from Mr. Act."
"Helping others doesn't help you?"
Lawrence shakes his head with a smile.
"I used to ask Mr. Act the same question as you, Kanaho. But it's different."
The hero squints his eyes, reminiscing about the past.
"Helping others isn't just about making someone happy. It also brings happiness back to you."
"Hmm... that's hard..."
Lawrence chuckles and pats Kanaho's head.
"Act told me that my power was given to help many people. This power is not just mine. So, I should use it for others, not for myself."
He breaks it down simply, passing on his teacher's lessons to the next generation.
"Kanaho, you also have great power. It's the power to PROTECT many SMILES. So, use it for others, not just for yourself!"
She remembers.
Lawrence always helped anyone in trouble, smiling as he did.
As a result, everyone talks to Lawrence with smiles.
For Kanaho, who grew up being called a man-eating monster by humans, it was... something to envy.
"If I do that, can I be like Lawrence?"
Lawrence smiled BRIGHTLY like the sun and nodded STRONGLY.
"YES! You can be a STRONGER and GREATER Hero than me!"
His warm smile and words lit a fire of longing in young Kanaho's heart.
She wanted to be a Hero that shines like this sun.
"I... I've DECIDED! I will also become a HERO!"
Kanaho grinned, copying Lawrence's smile.
He nodded happily.
"GREAT! I will WORK HARD to defeat the DEMON KING so Kanaho can become a HERO!"
"But if you defeat the Demon King, we won't NEED Heroes anymore!"
"That's NOT TRUE! Heroes will KEEP FIGHTING until the world is PEACEFUL!"
Kanaho's eyes sparkled at Lawrence's smile.
"Wow! Heroes are AMAZING!"
"HAHAHA! You're making me BLUSH!"
"I will also become a Hero!"
"ALRIGHT, WE ARE HEROES!"
""OH!""
Thus, the girl with great power, who could become both a Hero and a Demon King, decided to become a Hero.
Of course, it was thanks to Act guiding her, but neither of them knew that.
